My friend called me today for help. I know a lot about nutrition, but I have no experience with hangover just because I don't drink. I told her to have toast with butter and honey. I know that in some countries people eat certain food to avoid hangover. What is the secret in your country or state?

Well I don't know about preventing hangovers, I've always heard aspirin, but never tried it. When I get a hangover I like to drink powerade or Gatorade. For some reason that makes it go away for me. My mom used to eat frozen orange juice straight from the can, she said that helped her, though I've never tried that.

Replenishes the dehydration, and also replaces electrolytes. Both the gatorade/powerade and the orange juice. Frozen would take down any swelling.

Gatorade is full of sugar, orange juice may be the healthier choice...

I no longer drink, pola, but when I used to I found that ice-cold Pepsi over ice always did the trick for me!Some say take a hair of the dog that bit you, but that would only make me feel worse.

I don't know any post hangover fixes, but I have heard that if you drink a lot of water before you go to bed, that the hangover is caused by dehydration...

I've had exactly 1 hangover, I never got drunk again - I've had a few drinks, but never drunk I have heard that you have to drink water - lots of folks say that if you drink a couple of glasses of water before you go to bed that you won't be as sick in the morning - now, that I don't know - but some people swear by it

I don't really get a lot of hang overs. Hang overs are caused by dehydration so if I know I'm going to drink, I get plenty of water before going out and try to drink water before going to bed (even if I'm drunk, I try to remember to have some water) I have had some friends say that whatever you were drinking the night before, you should have a shot of it when you wake up....but I'm not sure that it works.

Hi pola, I think what you told her is fine, and green tea or water helps with the dehydration. The best remedy is not to drink that much, haha. She can try an aspirin or Tylenol also, to relieve the bashing headache that comes with it. Those days for me are quite over and I know better now. Sometimes a shower helps too, or a warm bath.

"An ounce of protection is worth more than a pound of cure." I usually just stay away from things that i know will hurt me. Its self destructive.

Most people here who want to avoid a hangover do two things here, make sure they eat a while before going out drinking so that their stomachs aren't empty and the second is to dring plenty of water after you've been out for a drink. I also found that stopping off at the local take-away chicken shop on the way home and getting some southern fried chicken and chips a good way of not getting a hang over, but that was just me.

According to my experience and ideas heard from my friends, 3 possible methods may avoid being drunk. The first one is tea, just some one said, maybe this way didn't take effective on who are heavy drunk; the second one is to have some milk before drink, I get this method from my friends who had a lot of drinks with customers and their friends; the last one is some kinds of medicines, it's difficult to introduce them to you because they all are Chinese medicines.

Thanks you take Chinese medicine as something, we have a idea long ago, we regard all the food we have as medicine, in another hand, any food have some functions as medicines, so you will notice a lot of Cantonese like soups which like smoe kinds of Chinese medicines.

i dont actually drink. but a friend of mine once advised me to pop in a motion-discomfort pill or two around an hour before you drink. you wont have headaches in the morning and you'll sleep better after you drink. ehehe.. i've never tried it, but it seems to work for my friend... happy drinking!

hi! well,, cure a hangover, you need to replenish the vitamins and liquids you lost overnight. some like avoiding caffeine are very important to a quicker recovery. and it is best to stay rest, you may also drink some energy drink like gatorade. eat mineral rich foods like pickles or canned fish and also take a shower, switching between cold and hot water.. but first of all, dont drink if you knew you cant control it. lol

Like you, I have not got the drinking and hangover experience. I have heard carbs before hand, and hair of the dog that bit you, after wards. It would stand to reason that getting extra fluids to prevent dehydration would be a good choice, and honey sounds very soothing for many things. Hope your friend does better.

The smart-as answer would be: Don't drink! However, a lot of the discomfort of a hangover is due to dehydration, so drinking lots of water should help.

Well, polachicago, the best cure I know is not to get get drunk. Most folks I know just sleep it off, avoiding food all together. When they finally crawl out of bed, they sip water and down over-the-counter pain reliever. Personally, I vote for not drinking at all...an ounce of prevention, you know.

For me the best hangover remdy is taking two asprin or some equivient, drink water, and get some bedrest. this is been the typiical hangover relife since I have been drinking achohol. I have heard of peolpe of eating late night meals at resturants after a night of drinking in the clubs. I myslfe have also ate meals afterword also. but for me it is the first meothod I use the most. but sometimes I will use both if I am hungery.

Lemon and honey will do the trick. Let your friend consume tolerable amount of lemon with honey then take a rest. When your friend wakes up let him/her drink a glass of cold water.
