As you know Haiti was hit with a really bad earthquake two days ago. I know most people are in bad financial straits at this time. I am unemployed at this time but have decided to donate my earning from Mylot to the Red Cross for the Haitian people. Its not a lot but I feel its better then nothing. If people were able to give even $5.00 each, times a million people that would help so many. Were you able to donate something or do you plan to or you just can't at this time.

Hi lelin1123, it's good to have concern for the Haitian people at this moment. It is a very unfortunate time for them, and i hope and pray that the good lord will look after them and to heal them of the scars of the earthquake, both physically and spiritually. Everyone who can make a donation should make it now to help these people. It doesn't matter what the amount is, each cent counts at the moment, as the donations will help them in providing food and shelter and also for the much needed medicines. I shall try to make a donation on my side.

I will be donating through the Red Cross. Our Australian government has donated $10M. We have been seeing terrible images on TV. Their earthquake is one of worlds worst catasrophes.

I know the images are horrific. In fact I just called my mom and she was crying as she was watching the news. Thank you for your response. God Bless.

That is what I did. Every little bit helps. I donated to the Red Cross and as of this morning they have raised 35 million dollar from the US alone. I think that is remarking expecially during these bad times.

this is going to sound really nasty and I appologise in advance, I have stopped donating cash to any disasters etc etc I will donate clothes or bedding etc etc but I will never donate money. The reason being before everybody slates me, is that most charities waste a heck of a lot of money and pay the higher management massive wages. There are few large charities in my area and the chief exec is on a 6 figure salary a year not to mention the people slightly lower down the management line, to me that is wrong if people work for a charity and donate money it all should go to good causes not some of it. That's why I don't mind helping out with material items but don't trust charities to be responsible with money that is donated.

yeah I get your point, but a charity is a charity after all, if I give money to a charity I expect all of that donation to go to the people on the ground in need. I feel very strongly about part of my money paying for some chief exec's wage or their expense bill. I also understand about the overheads as I run my own business but again I would rather donate material items rather than pound notes as then you know they have a better chance of actually arriving and benefiting the people who need the help. There was a case not so long ago here in uk an internetional charity was being interviewed and the media women admitted that sometimes the money that is ear marked for the needy so to speak sometimes get creamed off by the countries goverment and only a percentage ever finds its way to the general public who need the help. I don't mind helping, but I don't like paying for somebody else to get rich etc etc.

I'm not able to donate at the moment. I do put in any change if I have it when I go to the grocery store. This is because I hate pocket change. I think this is mostly because I have cerebral palsy and it's really hard to manipulate thin, small coins. If my 11 cents or whatever can help someone out who has had a disaster, then I will do that. What I'm am I going to do with 11 cents? You can't buy anything and I'm not so poor that 11 cents matters.

To be honest, I think more ppl need to look at helping ppl in our own country instead of rushing to help other countries all the time. It seems crazy that ppl will send millions of dollars in aide to other countries while we have homeless, hungry ppl right here in the US. The US is battling the oil spill right now but I don't see other countries falling all over themselves to help clean it up or help those that are losing their homes and ways of life. Millions of ocean animals are dying and it seems like so few ppl care. I'm sorry but I'll save my donations for ppl here... **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

You are right about no one coming to help from other countries when it comes to the oil spill. Its always us go to the aid of others. However, I think its being a true humanitarian when we can help others at home or abroad. Its the right thing to do. I just wish other countries felt the same way and would come to our aid more offen.

lelin1123, My office has already setup a fund raising exercise within and will be donating the funds collected to the Red Cross along with other collections like clothing and other essential items. I am glad that you are creating an awareness here. I am sure that your effort despite the challenging times is worthwhile and commendable. Kudos.

I donated all that I am able to last month to the Salvation Army. I'm sure they are helping over there. I'll be praying, though. The thing with donating money and supplies is that you have to strictly supervise the delivery and distribution. Countries like Haiti have ruthless dictators that live like kings while the people starve. You have to keep goods and money out of their hands and be careful how they are distributed.

Yes I just heard about that on 20/20 last night. I surely hope all the money that has been collected will go to helping the people that are starving and without shelter.

I've donated by texting so that the money goes to the Red Cross. I imagine my church will have something going so I'll find out tomorrow and will try to donate something now and next month. That's a wonderful idea to donate MyLot earnings.

I simply don't have any money or anything to offer. I may have a roof over my head, but I am quite literally one step above being homeless. So I can't give to those below me. But those people have something that I had sometimes, they have each other and just like all bad things they will find a way out of it.

Oh I'll be donating for sure. All US citizens will be donating whether they like it or not because our wonderful (said with sarcasm) President is sending $100 million in aid. Yes, you heard right. Where do you think that money will come from? Tax dollars. You disagree? Well the US is broke. We are donating with money that will be borrowed from China. We will have to pay China back $100 million plus interest. Does this make sense to you? Are you ticked off? If you aren't now you will be after this next statement. Obama also promised aid for the long term in rebuilding Haiti. Why is this our responsibility? It shouldn't be. Yet here we go digging that debt even deeper and deeper. Obama has already outspent President Bush. Yeah, he is about change all right. We will soon be the poorest nation and headed toward becoming a communist nation.

I can donate my earnings here in Mylot, the same amount as yours is not a burden. As long as it reach them and I can help them I can do that. But what are the site that I can enter in able to donate, by the way. When donation is the subject, I can donate, actually I like to donate, even just little things or little amount of money. Hope it will reach them.

Oh yes ! Every dollar would count. It is an unimaginable disaster, and many many people lost their lives. I was watching news on the TV, really bery sad ! Yes, I have made a donation too. Not a big amount, but I truly believe every dollar will make a difference. Many NGOs are very actively trying their best to help the people suffering there in Haiti.

No. I probably wouldn't donate if I could. I have a rule about making donations. I only donate money to help my community. I heard about too many scams and don't trust any of those organizations, not even the Red Cross. I'm sorry it sounds bad. I really haven't seen a lot of people help us when we had a flood and lost everything. From now on I only help my community but mainly all my extra money goes to my family.
