My poor friend

My poor friend took his girlfriend to Tenerife. It is a Spanish island in the Atlantic Ocean. His girlfriend has been admitted into hospital with severe back pain. The travel insurance company are paying for her medical expenses. My friend sent me an email. I was horrified to read what happened because I imagined he would be home by now. I sent him an email back wishing his girlfriend will recover. She is not a well lady. She has cancer. I would be terrified if I was admitted in a foreign hospital. Especially if there would be a language barrier. I will send daily emails to my poor friend giving him all the support I can. What do you think?

I am so sorry for your friend. I hope they can get her back home soon, so that she can get treatment here. If it is not already too late. I will be praying for them.

This must be dreadful for both of them, poor things. However, they are very lucky to have insurance to pay the expenses. If she had cancer, it can't have been easy to get the insurance, and the premium was probably very expensive

I hope she does well soon. Cancer and now this. That's why I prefer to do to places that speak English or French. I worry about either a medical or legal problem in another country and not being able to understand in either situation could be bad.

I´m so sorry, Maxine! Many times hospital´s elsewhere are better than what we get at home, specially if they have a travel insurance. Those insurance will make them have the best attention. But When one is ill, specially is it is something so terrifying as cancer, one wants to be in his homeland. She surelly needs support. I hope she gets better.

Oh, so the back pain is related to her cancer? That is very sad, to go on a holiday and have it ruined by medical issues. No doubt they wanted a good time together. I hope the hospital has the facilites and expertise to deal with her pain properly. Coyld she be evacuated back to England? Your support will be very helpful to your friend.

I'm glad they had themselves covered with Medical insurance for an eventuality like this, thinking how bad things could be if She needed treatment and She WASN'T Covered..So the Insurance company covered her despite her having a form of Cancer? I'm assuming they're from the UK,when they travelled to Spain, but I don't think I'd want to be an American trying to get Medical Insurance with Cancer as a Pre-Existing condition..I hope they get home soon!

oh dear. at least insurance is covering the cost part of things. What stage cancer does your friend's girlfriend have? If it is early stages then perhaps it can be treated and cured? Yup, I agree that i would be terrified to be in a foreign hospital, especially if I didn't know whether the level of care would be as good as in my home country, like whether they are careful in the treatment of blood and needles. hope she gets proper care and they can return home soon.

Hi Your friend definitely needs your support specially in a far away land. He must be in a stage of great stress now considering the situation he and her girlfriend are into. It is really tough to get sick when one is in foreign land. No loved ones to care for you. Let us just hope that she will recover soon. Regards

That's just sad. I hope his girlfriend would get well soon, enough to travel back home and continue her medication in their home. How long has it been since they've been there?

maximax8, This is awful and catastrophic, discovering a critical condition on a holiday is just beyond my imagination here. Out of concern, wouldn't they need to get back to their country or to a place where they have better medical facility for treatment? I hope that the condition is still treatable and most of all in its early stages, or I just cannot imagine the extensive treatments the girl will have to undergo. Like you, I suppose there's nothing much I can do except to give them some moral support by phone or email. I just hope that they are coping well for now. Take care.

I feel really sorry for your friend as well as his girlfriend. Hospitalized in a foreign land is very traumatizing, i know because it had happened to my daughter and her husband when they were in Dubai. It is hard, with no friends or relatives around and with the language barrier too. My son in-law was traumatized and got this anxiety attacks. I am just happy now that they have come back home here and he is on his way to recovery. I hope that your friend and his girlfriend can come home to for here treatment. My prayers are with them.
