Hi, people! How often you say the word "hate"? I have e friend of mine who always says "I hate" when he don't like something. I'm worried about him because I think that "hate" is serious word. It's bad to hate! Do we really hate when we say this word? How serious is this word for you?

I think that people don't really understand what the word hate means. They don't know that it's an all-consuming passion that robs one of their reason and humanity. I don't use that word anymore, I don't hate anyone. I do hate cockroaches, I'll use it for that, but it's not a word I would apply to any human so far. I hope I never really feel that way!

Yes, hate is a very serious word when it is used for any statement! I have said this word many times in my life. But, I have stopped saying this word. Instead I will say that I dislike someone's ways about them. There are many people that I really don't care for. But, I won't say that I hate them. I will just say that I hate their ways. Saying this makes me feel that I am not a hater. The more the word hate is used by your friend, the more that he begins to act like the word that he is using. Saying the word hate can be a harsh word when it is spoken.

Hate is a serious word which people often use when they really mean dislike. I guess I am as guilty as the next person, but there isn't much I really hate. We should be careful before we say we hate something or someone, as it really is a powerful word.

I never use that word and when I see it used on here it hurts hard to see it. It is an extremely harsh word and I see no reason for it to be used ever. I use 'dislike' when I am talking about something that I don't enjoy much but I would never ever have enough bad sentiment inside me to ever have the need to use that word at all. I see it thrown about a lot, especially by the younger generation and I fear they have no idea of its real meaning at all.

hi diana some mylotter was on here recently talking about how some hate here and I just dont think thats too likely. I havent seen anyone evoking real hatred. thats such a powerful emotion maybe they meant just disliked? That made me feel odd as I have friends here from all over the world and I have never felt anything but love and friendship towards them, hating here can become racist, and that would be awful.

I have become so much more aware of racism since I have been here on myLot. Not because there is a lot of it but because it is mentioned a lot. I do not understand at all how all those people who tell us that they are religious can also be racist too. We ALL belong to the same race so there should be none of it at all.

stand87 most of us hate when we should say dislike, like I say I hate parsnips because they taste sickenly sweet when I really mean I do not like them. To me hate is when I say I hate Hitler and all that he did, I hate the Gestapo, I hate racism. but I do not hate foods I dislike, or other items. I dislike them yes, but hate is much harsher, much more powerful, it means I detest something with all my heart and soul. We mean dislike most often, we should save hate and love for the really powerful emotions that evoke these feelings. I like ice cream but do I love it , no as that word is kept for me to mean extreme pleasure, a really warm all encompassing thing. not food, but people. I love my family and my friends. I like some foods very much. there is a lot of difference between like and love. or dislike and hate.

No. I haven't hated anyone since I was twelve. I hate certain people's behaviour and their thoughts. Hate doesn't help anyone or anything. I becomes like a growth that festers and becomes ugly. It doesn't do anyone any good and only hurts. It is something we can all do without.

LOL well dont take it so seriously when your friend says hate all the time. Don't let it worry you. Some people use hate very liberally. I was a very depressed teen and hated EVERYTHING. I meant it though when I said it. When I said hate I was filled with hatred. Now after being on anti-depressants I do not hate everyone and everything anymore. My whole attitude has changed. With two kids around I am very aware of the word hate. I do not use it liberally. I dont say it only when I slip once in awhile and then I apologize to my children for saying it. They correct me if I slip to haha. I dont allow my children to say hate I tell them its ok to not like something but hating something is to negative.

Maybe your friend just uses the wrong word. Maybe it doesn't really mean that he is actually filled with hate. Or maybe he is. I think you should talk to him if you really are worried. I use the word hate to mean exactly what the word means, but sometimes I also use it when I just mean that I'm irritated or angry. But there is one person whom I really hate. And when I say that I hate him I really mean it.

i agree to you.... "hate" is a very strong word.... i dont think i hate anyone seriously... because every person has got a good side and a bad side.... it is just some qualities that i dont like , and some that i like... so it is not actually the person that i dislike , it is his irritating qualities... and if you are adamant in focussing on the bad side, you will end up hating the person... instead accept the flaws(if they are not so bothering) and move on(if the person is worth it)...

Hate is a very serious word for me. I have found myself hating one person in my life. This person damaged me far beyond what is forgivable. My problem with hating them is that it causes me distress. I harbor the terrible feelings towards them and it is not good for me. I do mean that I hate them but that may not be the best thing for me. In this case I can see how it is bad to hate and I need to work on getting that feeling out of my system.

I think your friend did not mean it. he was just upset of something so he said like that. I am myself seldom say 'hate'. if I do not like somebody I just sigh or fell uncomfortable but I never say "I hate you". because I am sure that someday he/she will be kind to me. yes, I agree with you, 'hate' is a rude word, so we should avoid saying that.

I think hate is just as strong as love . In some people it lasts longer. The closest I get to hating someone is my feelings for George Clooney. I avoid him and his movies and I have since 1995. I can honestly say I hated what he said back in 1995 and I will never forgive him.

the word say hates or i hate you is so easy to say to a person your mad or your in anger. but honestly they dont! i personally cant afford to hate somebody because thats against the will god God. but there people that are tend to hate and apply it with the lifestyle. i dont know why. i knew a lot of people who really hate other people they fought with, why not release it and forgive. we cant say and forget because all the happenings in our lives we dont forget though we dont hate them.

Dear Friend, I agree with you that "Hate" is a very serious word. If i ever heard someone say he/she hates me, i will be very sad! Even to the things you don't like, you can just say i don't like, you don't necessary say you HATE IT. Right? Thanks for reading and responding my discussions!
