Now I don't want to seem too nosey but I was just wondering what people do for a living. I was a cashier, supervisor, manager, and now we are disabled and don't have a job persay we work for ourselves. When we can find work we do almost anything except electricity we don't know enough about electricity to work on it. We know the basic things you know how to change an outlet or wiring something. I make lamps all the time but that is nothing but a couple of wires. We do a lot of carpenter work and yard work for people. We don't make a great amount of money just enough to help us make it through the month. So what kind of work do you do? Are you happy with this job? What made you to decide this was the line of work you wanted to do? Was it out of necessity that you took the job you have? Or is this what you went to school for?

I used to be a volunteer for an NGO while still in College. It was not a job though since I just volunteered to be one of their staff out of love for this kind of work. I graduated with a degree in BS Community Development (College of Social Work). I volunteered for one year then after a while after I graduated I had my first real job where I get paid. I worked as a Contract Analyst for 9 months. I'm currently a Supervisor in a Customer Service Department in one of the largest company here in our country. I love my work in a sense that I love inspiring and motivating people. What I don't like about my job though is the part where I need to deal with the Big Boss and our Clients. My bosses are slave- driver and our Cients are demanding. There are 15 Supervisors in our Department alone and I am just one of them. Sometimes, I do the work of the Managers especially when they are on Leave. I am the POC when they are not around. I really hate it when the Managers are away because I don't want to deal with my co- Supervisors especially if they are not doing their job. To make my self feel better, I just think that in a way being a POC will be an advantage to me as I get to learn the responsibilities and tasks of the Managers. This is not really the type of job I want to do. However, it pays me well and the benefits are good so better stick with it especially now that I already have a kid. My husband also works in the same company in another Department.

Hi Lady keep up the good work and you will be in management sooner then you realize it. I know I hate dealing with those that don't want to do their work and expect others to do their job, just because they are the higer ups.

Hi Ladyslipper. Your welcome. It is hard to keep control over our anger sometimes. But being in the upper position you have to take care not to upset the others. If you have a problem with your anger ask God to give you the patients to control it. When I get so upset at someone else I walk away and cool down and when I am cooled off I go back to the person that made me mad and tell them what they did to make me so mad. I hope and pray that God will guide you through each and every day. Don't let anyone get on your last nerve.

Thanks for that motivation. I really need it right now. I went home today very exhausted and I almost got fed up with some of our staffs and co- Supervisors. I always believe that a good relationship is important even at work. But sometimes, there are really times that I just want to forget about that good relationship stuff and yell at them at the top of my lungs. Well, the bad thing is I can't do it. It's just that I'm not born to treat other people like that. That's one thing I hate about my self sometimes. I am very soft hearted that sometimes people around me gets abusive. The scary part thoug is that when I am really fed up I blew up like a volcano. At this point I can say that I'm still too far from blowing up. That's how patient I am with my work and the people aorund me. I learned that from my mother. My father though is impatient. haha! :)

I just resigned two months ago from my job and was planning to have my own business. But while scouting which business to pursue, I am currently working on line so that I could have the chance to somehow add income to my husband who are now the sole bread winner of our family.

Hi Larish. What type of business are you looking into? I love being able to build things and not ask someone else to build it for me. That is why I wanted to learn everything about carpenter work. My twin brother years ago made me my very first jewelry box and that is what made me want to learn to build. I no longer have my twin brother or my jewelry box but it did inspire me to learn.

Hi Larish. I hope you find the food thing you are looking for. I have been a carpenter for over 12 years. I do love it, it is great if I need a room built I don't have to call someone else to do it for me. If I want anything built I don't have to go to someone else I can do it myself thank God.

I studied Information Technology in college, and now I am a software developer/programmer. This is what I chose to be, and I really enjoy doing it. Doing programming is fun and challenging, you get headache when you can't figure out the problem or can't get the solution, but it's really exciting when you make it work! Also, it's really satisfying when you see the application does help the users in performing their work.

Hi Kaka. That is cool to work on something and then when you see the end results and it is working like you wanted it too that is a great feeling. I know when I can make something and it really looks good and someone stops by and ask where they can buy one I feel great saying I built it. I do sell things out of my yard. I have made bird houses that went for over 300.00. I wish I still had the pictures I took of this bird house. I was shocked when someone stopped and brought the first one I made. It made me inspired to keep on building. I sold 4 of them and made great amount of money. But the electricity isn't working in the shop and we just haven't had the money to get it fixed but when we do I will make many more things to sell out of the yard. I will post pictures soon! Good luck!

Hi Humairaku and welcome to my lot. So sorry for taking so long but hadn't figured out how I was going to be able to respond to your response. But then I remembered I have sticky notes on my computer and did a copy and paste. If you want a lot of nice things then your husband is doing what he can to make you a good living. It is odd what choices we have in this world these days, if we work hard then we have to give up certian things. To earn more you have to make sacrifices on one thing or another. To have a life style where you have all these nice things then you have to work hard. Depends on what you and your husband want out of your lives. If your young then you have to work even harder cause maybe one day you will have children. And it is a proven fact that it takes quite a lot of money to raise children. Not only are you providing a home but you have to provide the education too. Now everyone knows that an education takes quite a lot of money these days. Heck when I was young it didn't take quite as much. Good lot and set your goals on what you want out of your life with your husband. You and your husband have to sit down and decide what you want out of your marriage and your lives.

I've worked as a computer professional...programmer, network administrator...and also in middle management. I lost my job due to economic cutbacks in 2008. My husband, who is a disabled vet, and I opened our own business in Jan. of 2009...a motorcycle shop where he customizes, maintains and repairs motorcycles...mostly Harley Davidsons. I run the office...he works his magic. We also buy and sell motorcycles, part & accessories on Ebay and at the shop. I do like what we're doing now although it took some time for me to adjust. Being with my husband 24/7 has it's pros and cons but, for the most part, we're a great team and we're doing well...too well at times since he can't find a mechanic to save his life. This definitely isn't what I went to school for but the alternative, considering where I live, is to drive for two hours to work for someone else...so I like things the way they are.

Well, we do share a common interest, free_man, so we have lot's to talk about now...unlike when I worked for someone else and my husband didn't know most of my coworkers or care much about what went on at my job. I don't really miss what I did down here in Florida but I do miss working at the community college I worked at when we lived up north. There we were on the cutting edge of technology and I liked that...learning new things and be on top of what was happening in my field. Now, staying current is more difficult. Thanks for the compliment, greenbird. The main reason we opened our business was because we saw a need for it in our area. There are a lot of folks who ride motorcycles here and no competition closer than an hour away. Since building bikes has been a hobby of my husband's for years, and he's always done his own work on them, opening the business took doing what he loves to a whole new level.

I work for a company shopping prices I like it some days and other days I just want to throw the phone. I am on it non stop 8 am to 5 pm 7 days a week. I like it when I get a good check but when the check sucks then I am very frustrated with it all. This is my first actual job and I do it from home so I am happy I get to see my kids all the time. Other days I just wish I worked out side the home to get away some.

Hi Christinnawise and welcome to my lot. I think that would be a good job but I bet you have a lot of stress in that job. So you call companies and ask what the price is of things they carry? This lady at this local store was called one day and asked a price and she told them that it was against the law to give out prices. I thought that was odd. I bet it is good to be able to work from home. Must be nice to see your kids all the time.

Hi Christina. I thought she was full of BS when she said this to whom ever was on the phone. I think some of the people that hire people don't really put them through a good trainning before they put them on the floor. And expect them to do a good job. I think if your going to do a job then you should put your whole mind and body into the jo at hand.

I was a photographer and currently a computer technician. The reason for this change is due to interest. I have interest in computing and I could not understand even for myself, why I like computers a lot. I almost treat computers as my life partner.

Hi Titaniumsoul. It is good to know as many things as possible so you can work at any job you decide. I got my first computer in 2000 and I didn't even know how to turn it on but I can now rebuild anyone I need to. I work on my own computers because I know when I fix them they will be done right. But if I have a problem I do have a friend that I can call to help me. I am thankful that I got interested in computers. Good luck!

To tell you the truth, I'm not satisfied with my current job. The company I work for has several legal and economical issues, my payroll is being held up almost for two weeks already, some money is owed to me from last year and things don't look to bright in the near future. But I'm still hanging on there, at the same time looking for some other job opportunity, even if I don't get same payment or near what I'm making here, which isn't that much kind a think of it.

Don't stop looking for that perfect job cause it could be right around the next corner. Have faith there may be a reason you are at that company. Gods will be done!

i free__man I am retired now but I worked as a page in the Tustin library shelving media and I loved it and the great 'library staff too. For twenty three years I worked there and was fired because I was their best worker, thats what the branch manager said, but I was almost 80 like that was a crime. okay the second in command did not like elderly women working, and worked on the branch manager to fire me or she the second would quit. okay after I was gone, I got a letter telling me to come back to wo rk, that the branch manager and the second had both been fired for firing an employee solely because she was elderly. but fate swatted me down, I had a bad fall, smashed the bones in my left shoulder so badly I had to have a shoulder joint replacement so I became a bionic woman, one thing though I did not ever recover more than a third of the use of my left arm. so that meant I could never shelve media again.

Hi Hatley. I am so sorry for those stupid people not to realize what a valuable employee they had in you. But thank God they both got it in the end. They were the stupid people that needed to be laid off. Secondly I am so sorry that you got hurt and lost most of the use of your arm. God may have had a reason that HE didn't want you back there. I will keep you in my prayers.

I probably have one of the oddest jobs around. I sell live fish for a living. No not aquarium fish but food fish. I work of a company that raises tilapia that are sold in the supermarkets that carry live fish, mostly asian and hispanic markets. I love my job. It is a new adventure everyday, as I am not only responsible for sales but also much of the human resources responsibilites also. Went into this field becuase my other job with the same company was being eliminated and was offered this position so that I could stay with the company. So yes I did kind of take the job out of necessity but quickly grew to enjoy it. And no this is not what I went to school for. I studied computer science and mathamatics in college; but it looks like I may be getting back into some of the computer programming to help out.

Get back into the computer programming if you like it and you will be sitting on easy street. I'm not sure but I would think that doing computer programming would make you good money. Good luck in what ever road life leads you.

My job kind of sucks too ... i work in the Fiumicino Lost&Found baggage assistance in Rome airport . And how can you imagine my job is not so easy as i have to work with people wich was waiting for their luggage for 30min or longer and on the end they discover that they bag didnt arrived(so you can imagine how pissed off they com at the desk) and wants some answers . The worst thing of all , that the people wich comes to claim the baggage loss has allways something to say (in 80% of cases they begin of insolting my and my colegues) , than begins eider the desperation part of show or the threaths(the passengers are a kind of actor , cuz while in front of desc either desperated either going ma but onets 10 meters away returns to by a normal person). So the point is that no matters who i have in front of my i just get the crab all day long ...
