i bought a big bag of potato on last friday. 5 lbs i never can finish the full bag of potato, always have a few left before they are still edible. so this time, i tried to make potato chips. first, i washed all a few potatos, then slice them very thin, then put in the microwave season with sea salt for couple minutes, turn around, few minutes again. let them set for few minutes. they came out great. easy , crispy , tasty. so do you guys make your own potato chips? if you do, how do you make them, and which season do you put on? and what will you make if you buy 5 lbs potatoes?

I'm thinking of making Potato Soup. It is a good way to use alot of potatoes. I have some left over chicken and corn that I will add to the soup, so I will have Chicken Potato Corn Soup. I have never tried to make potato chips, but they sound good. I think cooking them in the microwave would be healthier than frying.

I served it with salad and it was quite yummy! We had enough for the next night also just served with bread because the salad was gone.

Five pounds of potatoes isn't very much for me, but I have made potato chips when I had potatoes I couldn't use up before they went bad. I slice them thin, then deep fry until they float. I drain them on brown paper and salt them lightly. I like them better without any fancy seasonings, but you could use dry ranch dressing, garlic powder with salt or any dry, powdered herbs you like.

thanks peavey. if i deep fry them, how many times do i have to fry. i heard you have to fry twice. if not, it will come out soft. is that true? i like salt better than other seasonings too.

No... I've never had to fry them twice. Just leave them in until they start to turn very slightly brown, then drain. They're crisp at that point. You do have to slice them very thinly, though. I use a peeler instead of a knife.

I don't know if they're really potato chips, but I thinly slice potatoes and bake them with random seasonings. They taste pretty good, but maybe that's more like roasting them? At any rate, it's cheap and i can add carrots if I want to make it healthier.

I have not ever made potato chips, as I am not big into eating them. We like to use potatoes to make fries in the oven. Mostly, though, we use sweet potatoes and make sweet potato fries. We sometimes make regular potatoe fries because my brother does not like sweet potatoes.

I have tried to make potato chips before but I never tried to make them in the microwave. I am going to try that! I cut the potatoes really thin and fried them. But it sounds much easier in the microwave!

hi anqial my mom used to make potato chips in a deep fryer thingy and they were so good, she would drain them and salt them lightly and we would munch away like crazy. but that was years ago and when I became diabetic I quit with the extra fats and began eating healthy and it was not too bad.I also could splurge occasionally with a bag of lays oven bakes potato chip swhich are good but not like the original b ut still good and crisp and crunchy too. I no longer cook for myself as I live in a retirement center for now.

Well, potato chips are my downfall and I probably could eat all 5 pounds, though I've never seen a 5 pound bag; where did you get it? I have made homemade potato chips often as it is easy. Slice potatoes thin, then fry in vegetable oil or brush with olive or vegetable and oven bake. I've never microwaved potato chips and I do prefer fried (and drained) chips, simply salted. Homemade chips are great. They can be seasoned with seasoned salt or any spice or herb of one's choosing and can also be served with ranch dressing or another dip/dressing of choice. My grandbaby loves to make chips with me it it's a great lesson to see how things really are made, not factory made. They disappear fast in our house and it seems I can never make enough.

Homemade potato chips are a bit of work, but they are wonderful! I like mine with just a little salt, but garlic salt or seasoned salt is also good. As for five pounds of potatoes, I generally will make mashed or baked potatoes out of them. I prefer my potatoes mashed with some butter and a little millk. I also add garlic powder and cheddar or jack cheese, so I pretty much have a meal in one pot without a lot of calories. Of course, if you want to add a green or orange vegetable, so much the better, but on a cold winter night I'm very happy with a bowl of cheesy garlic mash.

That is exactly the way I make my mashed potatoes too! I thought I was being original too! As far as potato chips go, I keep the skins on but I use a potato peeler to slice them super thin. Then I deep fry them in my fryer until they start to brown. Then I drain them on paper towels, salt immediately, and then serve warm with homemade hamburgers and hotdogs. We go through a 5 pound bag with every meal and if I want leftovers of any kind I have to use a 10 pound bag. We are a family of 6 though with 2 teenage boys and a grown man. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!
