I Wish They Would Improve The "Interests" Page At Mylot.

I wish it was easier to search the interests section on Mylot to make it easier to find different subjects and get to them quickly. I've been here for a few years and have a lot of interests added, I find it really difficult to find the Interest I want sometimes as you have to go through them all page by page. It's also really difficult to find an interest that has already been started at Mylot because you can't search them. I'm sure that's why there are so many random interests, and many interests that are practically the same just spelled or worded slightly differently. It's because people just type it in and accidentally create a whole new interest by mistake, and then if people respond to the discussion they add the interest when prompted and it grows.

I so agree...I actually have other interests that I can't seem to find here in myLot because its not in alphabetical order and stuff. So I only get to add other interests when I join discussions that are not under the "my interests" tab...and then I just add the interest after responding to it.

Hmm... maybe forget the "categories" and just list everything alphabetically...?

Things being alphabetical would be a great help, and being able to scroll through them, that would be almost as good as being able to search them.

Most of us blog, discuss and participate on many different sites. Mylot is by far the most difficult of all the web sites I've been on. They ask for suggestions and I'm sure with almost 200,000 people here, someone has to hear our pleas to fix the site.

They are working on it obviously, the Alice profile has lots of discussions asking for suggestions I will go and post it under one of them later myself.

nancyrowina, you're more than welcome to post your suggestion (or suggestions!). You might also want to take the time to read through some of the other suggestions your fellow members have posted. We had several fantastic back-and-forth discussions about how to make things better and I'm betting you'll enjoy the read.

This has already been flagged in the 'GoAskAlice' discussions: http://www.mylot.com/GoAskAlice . I'm sure that its one thing on the agenda to be changed. "Watch this space!"
While most of us (when we realise that it's possible and that most, if not all, interests have been created by users) appreciate the ability to create a new interest, most of us have been frustrated by the difficulty of finding an appropriate one when we want to post a discussion or find similar ones.
Many a new user has been very offended when told that jokes (for example) are forbidden as 'discussions' when they have posted their joke in the 'Humour' or 'Jokes' interest (never mind that they haven't actually read the Guidelines when they checked the box to say that they had!)

This topic was covered at length in the "Admin for a Day" interests discussion and it was ranked pretty high on the wish list.
nancyrowina, while I do appreciate the friend request I'm not quite ready to accept friends. I'm still working through all of the changes requested and I'll be so inundated with questions that I won't be able to focus on the current tasks at hand. I just didn't want you to feel ignored since you missed out on this conversation elsewhere.

I really wish there was a way to search interests too. The best I've been able to get is to search discussions and add any interests that come up with the keywords that I was looking for. I don't like having to go through all the interests pages and seeing dozens of duplicate interests. I'm pretty okay with the way the interests are organized in the discussions sections because I can find all the interests that have new discussions in them.

A lot of interests get lost in favour of the more common interest sections though, everything is just posted under "people" "life" or "Mylot" usually. It would make it a lot easier if there was a search function, or even drop down menus under the main interest sections, those would get very long though.

I so agree with you on this. It takes forever to find the interest that you are looking for. Its such a waste of time. They (MYLOT) should be able to make it so much easier for us. Such as maybe writing the interest and it pops up. If that interest is not on the website then you add it yourself.

I agree they have made the site better in lots of ways but never done anything about the disorganised interests section.

I agree. I would much rather have to select an interest once I have written the discussion (just as we have to add tags ... or not, as the case may be).
It seems to me that 'tags' and 'interests' could very well be combined in some way, though both have their function.

I couldn't agree with you more. i have the same problem. Any time I would like to start new discussion, i have to search for my interest page by page, very often I give up and start under life....or whatever is close...

That's what I do, Mylot doesn't gain anything from all this time we spend searching either, we could be using out time posting and responding to discussions.

Makes sense to me. There have been many times when I wanted to search to see if an "interest" already existed. It can be exhauting. Did you tell "Alice"?

Yes there are some weird interests on here! There's one called "Oddly shaped apples" with a picture of one, have you seen that? when we can search our interests maybe I'll be able to find it again.

Same to me. 
I wish we could search for an Interests , it's realy hard to find the interests. And how could I know if I want to create Interest , if there is already created same Interest from someone? Few days ago I tried to create an Interest and then I couldn't find it.

yes the way we can create our own interests at the drop of a hat is a problem here, I'm all for the site being user led and all that but they need to stop interests being created automatically. Maybe let the interests go into a que to be approved or something.

Yeah even I have the same feeling though I'm new to mylot and didn't find the time to go through every thing in detail it still confuses me to handle this . It can be made more user friendly.

Yes I agree with this even though its been a week in myLot I find it hard to search my common interests if I have so many Interests. I use CTRL+F to find my interest when I make a new discussion here but I'd like them to upgrade it and to make it easier for the users. That may boost the sites popularity and would mean members will stay longer. ^^

i agree with you , Mylot should add some interested ideas inside, for example , add some funny games and the kinds of questions that good for improving people thinking, also add some culturals from different contries for everyone to know more about the world,since we know that Mylot is the international web ,should contain as much interested and improved points inside.
