Wanting To Do Away With The Filibuster

When Republicans were the majority party and in control of the Presidency, Democrats used their parliamentary rights to block or at least hold up Bush judicial appointees. Then Senate majority leader Bill Frist came up with the idea of using the "Nuclear Option" to do away with the filibuster in the Senate dealing with judicial appointees. Democrats went nuclear, sorry for the pun. Now Democrats are in charge, majority party in Congress and control the Presidency. With the Scott Brown victory Senate Democrats are not filibuster proof, Senate Democrats want to use the same tactic the they argued against. If a wrong is a wrong it is always a wrong, if it is wrong for one person to do something it is wrong for everyone to do it, if it is wrong for one group of people to do something then it is wrong for every group of people to do it. You are not automatically correct just because your group is in power.

I find that people seem to have a short memory span. I remember the hell people gave Bush because of his "Bushisms", but don't you dare make fun of Obama just because he said "57 states". Part of being partisan is that you'll only be against something the other party does if it affects you negatively. When it's your turn to hold the reigns, it's a-okay, because you're not the one who has to worry about being steamrolled. Anything goes if it gets you to your goal.

It is fun steamrolling until you are the one being steamrolled.

It is typical of Democrats history started the day they choose. The purpose of the Senate is to slow down the majority in knee jerk reaction. If you study history going back to the Roman Empire the Senate was a place where all Senators have a chance to speak. It was the Democrats who used the Filibuster to block almost everything during their minority rule. I say keep the filibuster but make the party that wants to filibuster keep s[peaking on the floor of the Senate not just say we will filibuster.

The hypocrisy is making itself known. So much for being a party of change. No wonder Senators and Representatives alike are leaving in droves under the excuse of retirement.

Filibustering never made sense to me. The party in charge will always try to get away with what they criticized the other for. Dems or repubs, they are all the same. I don't think the filibuster should be allowed but neither should shoving through legislation without a certain amount of debate and consensus. Representatives no longer represent us, just themselves and special interests. We should be able to be there and object to things and be listened to. If they keep the filibuster, ordinary citizens should be able to do it on the floor, too!
