Every year my daughters school have a great swimming carnival. My daughter competed in all competitive events. She came first in every event except butterfly, where she came second. So she won the gold championship medal for her year level. We were a bit disappointed with one issue though. She wanted to break the school record in 50 metre backstroke. But the school refused to supply the poles and flags which are essential in backstroke races.

Oh congratulations that is something really nice, I used to be swimmer also when I was a child all the way until high school, it is a really nice sport. It is unfortunately that the school didn't support your daughter wishes, and it is a shame because she would have made the school probably really proud with that. But sometimes schools are more focus in money than in the students.

I agree. Money could have been the issue, although I suspect the Sprts Coordinator had other ulterior motives.

In those cases you never know, sometimes people that work in schools are too absorbed in their own problems and their own ambitions rather than educate children, which is what they should do, put everything aside, and educate children which should be the main purpose in their profession, because that is the only thing that they should think.

Congrats to your daughter, you must be proud. My daughter has won the young artist award two years running, and I think she may win this year but every time she wins I am too overjoyed for her successes as well as happy that the motivation that I give her along with her will to succeed has paid off for her. I hope your daughter stays motivated to continue with her swimming and that she continues to succeed.

Wow! How old is your daughter? What kind of art work does she do? I know my daughter wants to swim for the next two years, then probably cut down her training when she goes to university.

It could be they dont want to spend the money on buying new poles and flags. The sports manager is somewhat uncooperative in her nature too.

Congratulations to your daughter, that is a fantastic achievement! Scoliosis or not, she has worked hard and trained and now she has the ultimate prize! I read that she is allergic to chlorine so this is what makes this so amazing! That is a good piece of news. I bet you are as proud a punch, I know I would be!

I am very proud of her hard work. The chlorine allergy causes real difficulties sometimes. Some pools are worse than others.

It really frustrates me, as I dont know why for sure. I think it's a combination of them forgetting to put in an order for the poles and flags, a misconceived idea about safety, and possibly an idea in the sports leader that it shouldnt be too competitive! Im seeing the Deputy Principal about it next week.

Congratulations to you and to your daughter! You deserve some credit too being the mother of a gold medal winner. You probably had to take her to pactice and meets and of course be supportive. It is rare to find someone with health issues that keeps trying to break records in sports of amy kind. It is a shame her school didn't co-operate. I would think they would have done whatever they could as it would make them look good too!

I do all I can to support my daughter, which is something my ex resented. She trains hard and deserves a reward. I am seeing the Deputy of her school next week, as I am very annoyed at the fiasco caused when they wouldnt buy the poles and flags for backstroke.

..Hi jennybianca, Congratulations to your daughter for doing so well in the events. It does sound as if she has enough skill at her sport to compete in the Olympics if she wanted to. I love to watch the swimming competitions, Michael Phelps is one who comes to mind, don't know any of the women's names, can only remember some of their faces. I am sure you must be proud of your daughter. Take care and thanks for sharing the good news.

wow....congratulation for her. It is not easy to win and earn a gold meddle. It is a great start for her to swim her way through olympics. I am sure she will make Australia proud one day for bringing back an olympic gold one day. As a supportive mother, you are the most important person behind all her success in swimming. You are lucky to have a sport 'genius' in your family.

jennybianca, Congratulations! I see another budding swimmer in the making here. What was the record for 50m backstroke against her current timing? I am sure if it is anything within the National Age Groups, I am sure she will be invited for the Nationals competition. In the meantime, just let her enjoy the sport and winning. I am sure if her coach finds her timing credible, she will definitely be entered on the forthcoming time trials. Cheers!

Im afraid she wont make the Nationals. Nearly two years ago it looked a possibility, if she trained hard that she could make it with backstroke and 50 freestyle. But she has had too many medical problems. She was diagnosed with Scoliosis late last year. She is allergic to chlorine (seriously). She has IBS and so when her stomach plays up she can't train. She does always make the State Championships, but that next level, the Nationals, will not be possible now. Five members of our swimming club have made the Nationals in this April, and one member has made the Commonwealth Games Trials, which is very good for a small club. My daughters best time in 50 backstroke was achieved 2 years ago, at 36.5. The qualifying time for Commonwealth games trial is 32.5 I think.

Wow! I really have to give a hand to your daughter, that despite all odds, had managed to put up a credible performance. You really got a fighter here. Being an optimist, I hope that she will be able to manage her conditions and if miracles permit I will be praying hard for her recovery. All the best and once again, kudos for your daughter's victories!
