It means that the person will keep you informed And that you will be one of the first to get the information. " In the Loop."is a how us Yanks see the people who are close enough to know all the important information first.

In English to be "kept in the loop" means to be kept up to date. I am not sure why "in the loop" means that, and why out of the loop means not upto date, but for whatever reason, it's just a known expression in English. In the loop means to be kept up to date, out of the loop means you are not kept up the date. So by answering this question, I am keeping you "in the loop" about current English expressions.

As other have mentioned keeping someone in the loop means keeping them involved and posted about the situation. It’s an expression I’ve often used and I must wonder where it originated from, if anywhere. Sometimes phrases like that have a reason for coming into existence and I would love to know more about this one.

If your "in the loop" that means that you are in the circle of information that a group may have to offer. It usually pertains to a group of people that are exchanging knowledge with one another.

Yes, I think it means "I will keep you informed about further developments" in a situations. Or it could mean that if you have got involved with a group of people that if you can't make it to meeting etc. that someone will keep your place in the group so that you can remain a member. "In the loop" I would also refers to a closed situation where only certain people are invited to participate in. I think!!! If I have got it wrong then I have misunderstood people for quite some time! _Derek

That is exactly what it means. In the work place, communications within the orgainazition are often restricted to those who need to know. These people make up a loop if you are included you are in the loop.

Yes, that's basically it. When you go around telling each person who needs to know something (or send copies to people by email), it's like going around to a circle of friends or a loop. To be "in the loop" is to be one in the circle who needs to know or should be kept informed.

That's what it means, to include someone in the information loop. It's a silly expression, really, and if you said "I'll let you know" it would be a lot simpler. I think, though, that people nowadays need to feel important and that phrase sounds as if they have control of a situation.

It is the loop of information so it is more or less as you guessed, keeping you notified as things happen. No idea where the term comes from but it always reminds me of the loops of telephone wires at the telephone exchange.
