my discussions at mylot attract very few responses, despite having about 250 friends? What can i do to improve this situation ? - ask questions at certain times of the day ? - Offer bribes ? - ask really stupid questions? - answer questions of all my friends every day ? ??? Hope i get a few responses for this one !

Hi srijshm, Actually I would prefer to have limited responses in my discussion, 20 responses is good enough. It is not that I do not want everybody to take part in it but it is more to my disability. I do not know how to comment a similar response and it is not wise to left some responses without comment on it. It is our courtesy to reply/comment back to the responses we received. Otherwise, this responder will not come again to our discussion. Back to your question: 1. Posting time. It is important because if you post it when less user log-in, your discussion is not well expose. Most of active mylot members are from USA, India and Philippine. You must know what time this 3 group usually login according to your time. According to my time (Malaysia), they usually login around 10 pm here. 2. Interest, Tags It is important for every discussion attached to related interest. If someone did not see your discussion when you posted it, they might see it if they look at the certain interest. Tags also important because it wuld be appear if someone use this tags (keyword) using above search bar. It is also could be display on the right side of related discussion. =============== 3. Restriction. Discussion with some restriction usually has less responses since not everyone can participate there. Try to avoid using culture, geographical area or technical requirement in your discussion. 4. Friends, This would help to if they "ON" their notifying on you. They would receive email about your discussion and usually if they had something to say about it, they will respond. Your friends also can see your discussion if the look at the "friends started" tab. But the most important thing is your friends must be active. Inactive friends would bring nothing to you. 5. Topic This is the most important thing. Your topic must be interesting enough to attract other users to look at it and respond to it. Good luck.

akuler, you mentioned one of the most important concepts in having an actual discussion. Here's what you said: "It is our courtesy to reply/comment back to the responses we received." srijshm, if you start discussions, make sure you come back to discuss your topics with those who were kind enough to respond to you. If your fellow members see you commenting on responses they'll be more likely to respond to you in future discussions.

alice is so right, I have responded to some who make a lot of discussions in one day, but when I looked back she did not comment on anyone's responses, and I actually felt like not wanting to respond if she did not intend to really have a discussion. It was a fine discussion but how can you discuss anything if you do not comment and get the ball rolling. I love it when people respond and I comment and they come back to comment on my comments. Its a lot like having a discussion over the back fence with your neighbors and having everyone commenting back and forth.

Hi Alice & Hatley, For me, discussion is a two ways communication. A discussion is not a discussion until we come back and reply our responses. If we did not reply it back, it would be a question and answer.

offer bribes? that's so funny! maybe you can offer freebies as well. like if they respond one of your discussion, you give them a hug. if they respond in two or more disussions, you give them a kiss. you can also design some special packages which includes hugs and kisses as prizes if they meet your requirements. i was just joking though.

Hi Friend, The number of responses that we get is mainly depends on the Quality of the Topic. Yeah,of course number of friends also have influence in the number of responses. Best thing that we can do to get maximum responses is comment on the responses so as to give a chance to the people to say some more on that topic. So the visitors of the discussion tend to respond. We all like to respond to such active discussions know? So make the topic alive with your comments. Good Topic Friend. Have a Great Time here.

Humm, i think a good quality discussion can bring a lot of people and also an original and unique question which has never been ask before here on myLot. You can talk about actuality or asking question about people life like "Do you go out of your house with your pyjama?", people like talking about their life so they like this type of question where they can give their personnal story. Good luck! ^^

My highest record in getting responses is 53 responses. not bad at all I think. actually I never think thought that my discussion would reach that many responses. my discussion is 'only' about using English in mylotting. I think it's very common discussion, but in fact it could reach many responses. frankly I don't have tip how to get many responses to our discussion, cos I think it depends on our good luck. so never stop trying. just believe to yourself that you'll get many responses someday. but I think people like to give responses to an easy discussion, not the hard one.

may be i know your secret! Your mylot ranking is pretty high compared to the number of posts. I guess, I desperately need to improve my overall quality of discussions & responses at mylot.

I doubt that having a lot of friends would be of big help to get more responses. I've read a lot of discussions about this, and I believe it's a wrong mentality to equate higher number of friends to higher number of responses. Anyway, like what most replies suggested, I believe the best way to get more responses is to create quality discussions, the types that are of interest to a lot of people. With regards to your other queries, I do believe that asking stupid questions won't help. Stupid questions more or less generates stupid answers as well. And I don't think anyone would earn from giving one liner, non-sensical answers. Oh, by the way, if you're aiming to have more responses just to earn more, then I guess you got the wrong premise my friend. We don't earn from the responses we get but from our own replies.

Friend, i think, the number of friends also have an influence in the number of the responses that we get.Because there is a category of discussions From Friends in the homepage of Mylot. So if we have more number of friends ,more people see our discussion topic in their homepage. So we may get more responses. You Agree?

Ummmm.. am not sure about relationship between responses & earning, but more responses sure improve my reputation score. Kinda embarrassed being stuck at "8" despite having 700 posts.

@srijshn, Your reputation (star) can only be improved if other members rate your post with (+) rating. It would not improve even when your discussion have hundreds of responses because they only give you a (+) rate once because you have only one post. But if you leave a comments (just like what you did now) everyone can give you more (+) rate in one discussion. It is the only way to improve (of decrease if people give - rate) your reputation here. The higher number of posts you have made (number beside your username), the higher number of + needed before your reputation (star) can be improved. So it is more easier to improve our reputation when our total posts is still low.

One observation I've made so far about people that are always up in the top getting a lot of responses to their discussions is they seem to be great friends with some of most of their repliers . Maybe converse with some of those friends on your list and become more familiar with them or post questions like "What is ur favorite color?" lol when I first came here it seemed like those were the only thing anyone would respond to.

Those 'what are your favourite this or that' type of non-discussions are the first to get deleted because they are polls. Having friends helps gets the ball rolling but it is an active Lotter who comments back to those who respond that will gets the most respnses.

You should concentrate on your quality of posting and if you gave quality in your discussions then you can get more response to your discussions.. and one things always remembers that you may try to ask those questions who are interesting.. discuss any interesting topics like science, social activity, terrorism..etc.. i think.. if you ask these topics and maintain your quality of grammar and punctuation then you can get more response to your discussions... have a nice day and keep mylotting always..

Hmmm.. the choice of interesting topics seem a little strange, because on net " internet earning" & weight loss seems to be the most sought after topics. Will certainly try your suggestions.

Quality would be the key. Raise discussions that would be relevant. Or you could draw upon your own life and experiences and raise questions that you really need answers to. That's what I do. I'm not an expert or anything, but I think I do alright. Don't just raise discussions just to raise discussions. Sooner or later, if people see that you raise good topics, people would always comeback and respond to your discussions.

You should have very interesting topics to discuss. Avoid reposting topics that had been discussed before. Make it unique.
