I stepped on landmines!

Yesterday must have been a doomsday for me as 4 responses that I made went to mylot bin. Its a record so far. I don't understand why I lost my concentration and responded to discussions that are destined to be axed. Are there still people here who doesn't understand the guidelines? Maybe time to refresh and reread the guidelines so you won't entrapped others to respond. I thought I am quite careful and selective when it comes to responding to discussions but many times I am carried away and respond without the slightest thought that I have just stepped yet another landmine. What a waste of time and energy when at the end of the day all efforts went to waste. Maybe, it is a lesson learned that not all calm looking discussions are safe bets. It is still a mystery why some discussions have short lifespan? Many times I avoided certain discussions that am pretty sure of meeting an instant death turned out to be the chart topper. Even a fair warning by the OP to respond at your own risk turns out to be a blessing as the discussion become a permanent fixture here. What do you think are the loopholes that we are still unable to figure out?

Hi zandi, So far, I consistently have two posts being deleted everyday because of repeated or guidelines violation discussions. And I aware of it most of the time. I did not mind to give a response to the discussion that would be deleted if the discussion starter need some help about mylot like profiles things or whatever. But usually I just give a very short response or just a link to the related topics. I do not want to break anything here but just lend some help to the needy. But, sometimes I also fall in the trap that I did not aware off. And I am very piss yesterday because of this. I blame it on myself though. How did I forgot that most of the money earnings discussions was most probably being deleted? Lost my awareness maybe. What piss me off is I write a long response for that and it definitely take a lot of my time to made it. Sometimes it is a little bit confusing about the guidelines because it is too general. That why we can see a few discussions would be deleted just after it is posted and a few survive a little bit longer and a few has immortality. Or maybe mylot admin just did not find it yet.

I think one of the main attraction that draw some people to mylot is the 'money earning' interests. It is still okay to discuss about making money online provided no referral links displayed. I was responding to one discussion about gagabux yesterday believing that it is safe as there was no link included but to my dismay it was deleted. I am at a lost as to why it has been deleted while others remained.

I've had that mistakes several times in the past. These days, I've been quite careful. It is really a waste of time to respond lengthily and substantially to a post only to be deleted after a day or two. Sometimes though I could not understand why a post was deleted when I found it not really violating any rules. Well anyway, myLot knows better than me on how to implement their guidelines so I just had to accept the deletion whether I like it or not.

In the spirit of mylotting we have to abide by the rules that govern this site and to accept what ever the admin does to make our life in mylot more pleasant and less problem.

hi salonga and zandi just an idea, I have began avoiding those that look iffy if they have no responses as I figure perhaps other my lotters are seeing a rule broken here that I may have missed. this has cut down a bit on my own lost responses.

Thanks Hatley for that suggestion. If it works well for you then I have all the reasons to do the same. Actually, there were times I'd prefer commenting on posts with zero responses as I thought I'd be doing that user a favor!

You are not alone in stepping on landmines. Everyone has such experiences. The notification from mylot informing me of my response being deleted really annoys me not a little. Indeed, some newbies don't take time to study guidelines and start discussions end up being deleted, bringing trouble to those who respond. Most mylotters, i believe, are serious in following the guidelines. But still, we can't figure out sometimes why a discussion got deleted. There seems no reason for it being deleted. But none of us can give a valid explanation except the mylot admin. So all we can do is to be prudent in selecting discussions.

I believe everyone has their fair share of having their responses and posts deleted at least once in their stay here.

I know what you mean. I responded to a discussion a couple of weeks ago. IN a way I should have guessed, it was religion related and things were said that could easily offend some. My own personal responses however took views from both sides into account. I guess I'm just one of those people who tries to understand an argument from both sides. In any case, the discussion was deleted along with my couple of responses. Like I say, I should have guessed from the topic that it wouldn't last. But I think sometimes we don't really think (maybe we're tired at the time or whatever) but, the end result is that we have wasted our time... though, I have to say that my time may not have been completely wasted. If certain people saw my responses I hope they learned something from them... ie. that not having the same opinion as others doesn't mean that you have to stoop to insulting them or their intelligence

Very unfortunate that some people are not open-minded. I think we ought to be able to talk about delicate matters, particularly involving politics and religions, but we should handle these matters with maturity and taking into consideration the different religious beliefs of the people here.

I have had several answers to discussions deleted and know not why. I try my best to keep my answers simple and to the point but also if I see a discussion out of whack I PM the sender. The loopholes are a mystery to me tho.

The best thing to do is accept the fact that admin has it's rules and we have to try to follow them. After all mylot is a better site than others. I will just be careful and you do the same. what choice do we have?

Hi Zandi. I also stepped on landmines... Even if I know 'the rules' and even if I've been read the guidelines, sometimes I found my responce or discussion got deleted. There is no point for warnings from the OPs. I mean, if the OP knows that they will delete his/her discussion, then OP will not going to start this discussion...

Hi Zandi! One of the loopholes which many don't realise are those discussions which seem to have a perfect topic, almost too perfect, and are deleted because they are not the original work of the user. There are some of those almost every darn day They are easy to spot sometimes too. The topic is in perfect English, set out really well, and then the comments to the responses are in broken English I still receive notifications every day for those discussions where I respond answering questions which are already answered in the FAQs. I toy with the idea of not responding but that might make a new user think that we are a hostile bunch here, so I respond and tell them that they will lose their discussion. I often make a new friend when that happens so it's well worth losing a point

Hi Diana, I can't really differentiate between an original piece from a non original work. Some people are blessed with special talent and they can really write well. I think I need a double coated lens to find out next time. Mylot is no short of good writers and I am learning everyday from these people who write beautifully with their journalistic style of writing.

Sad that we have to meet up under these circumstances I hope you travels will be along more evn paths in future so that you do not get bruised

hi zandi you and I must have responded to the same four discussions as I also got four notifications too. I am also wondering why people do not want to read the guidelines and rules for making discussions and follow 'them as I have read them and I follow them. They are not just shooting themselves in the foot, they are shooting us in the foot too, as I did not think I had goofed that badly. I did make one response to one of my close mylot friends that I was afraid might be deleted, she was just unfortunate that she had not seen some others had already made discussions on the same news item. the other three though are a puzzle as usually I am really careful not to respond to those that look like they have broken a rule.zandi I was just thinking maybe for us poor losers who sometimes do not see that the discussion has broken a rule, maybe when mylot admins. sends us the notification they could add this broke rule blah blah, then we might be more able to bypass that particular type of rule breaking discussion. I have read the rules on discussions over several times, and I think maybe some we lose responses on may just be the problem of too many discussions in the same day on the s ame exact almost word for word topic.

It was most likely that we have responded to the same discussions. I was surprised to get so many deletions to my responses in one day. I guess admin must have been active going around chopping discussions cos it was payday that day. Like many of the posters here, I do sometimes forget to check whether there were existing topics around. But if worded differently most of the parallel discussions are able to survive.

there are really discussions that have clear violations so if it's clear, it is also clear to me that i should not respond to them. sometimes, i remind the OP but there are times, i am misunderstood for responding to it with reminders to review the guidelines... so far, i never got trapped in a discussion that i thought is clear of any violations.

Hi Zandi, this happens to me all the time...And you are right its hard to predict which discussions will get axed...I too am very careful while mylotting to stay away from controversial topics but it turns out that its usually innocent discussions that disappear with out a trace..It will be nice if mylot has some warning signal when we post our discussions that they are breaking some guidelines..Its not possible for us to remember all the guidelines while posting our discussions...

Exactly, the guidelines tend to slip our memory easily and we become victims when discussions get deleted.

hello zandi dear i am also confused like you, have read the guide lines several times, when a discussion gets deleted mylot gives the reason i am choosy in my responses too, i don't respond to each and all, hate the generic kind of discussions.. Thanks for this nice post, cheers God bless you. Prof

Hi Prof, I try to reach out to all my friends discussions and respond to them if I can relate to the subject well. Unfortunately, in my eagerness to reciprocate I forget to ask myself whether the discussion that I am about to respond has not gone against the guidelines. Yesterday was a bit down for me as I have invested my time on few discussions which has been deleted along with my responses.

I am really new to mylot, and the same thing already happened to me. One discussion that I responded to got deleted. It drives me crazy! I do not even think there was anything wrong with the discussion, but apparently there was because it was deleted. I do not think you lost your concentration. I think you were just looking for a good discussion and happened to make the wrong choice. I do stuff like that all the time, not just here. It's kinda scary.

Welcome to mylot kaspera. I guess you must have felt unwelcome as a newbie when you get notification that your response was deleted. Don't be alarmed as it is a normal happenings here. Take it as your orientation and if you survive this early shock, you will be able to go far as there will be more mysteries in mylot. Well, got to get used to the working of this site. The more thrills the more fun we have. Happy mylotting.
