Lying about your actual age, why?

Well, no one really wanted to sounds all each year... I had just been to my Kuya's birthday celebration... and his few friends were there. And he never able to hide from the question, 'how old are you now?' hmmmmnnnn, is that really a tough one? Or just an honest question? Well, I found it fun... and my Brother was kept denying about his age... until I got my chance to speak and told everyone who are good friends of mine too that: He is older than me 10 years and I am 23... well, it's not really a hard puzzle to them.... Now tell me honestly, did that stuff? Hiding your real age to someone? Well, I do not found it really bad...

Prime, a lot of people tend to do that, but mostly women. I myself cannot understand the reason for it. It is only a number. I have no problem with my age and are not ashamed at all. And if it bothers others, so be it. TATA.

I have never ever hidden mine online or off. It's the others that don't believe me that have a problem and it's not my fault for telling the truth I am surrounded by friends of all ages, some really young, offline just like I am on here. Age is a number made up of two numbers. Some are lucky to get to three but the important thing is to live them as you feel that they should be lived knowing that it is always the right time for everything... because tomorrow might never come

I like to ask people I meet (if the topic comes up) "How old do you think I am?". Maybe they are being kind, perhaps they are being honest, but most often people judge me to be around 10 years younger than I really am. When I was younger, 70 seemed really, really old to me. Even 40 seemed on the verge of retirement and what do people do when they retire? They become a grandfather (or grandmother) or an aged uncle. Now that I am nearly there, I can still look up the hill and see that I'm not yet at the summit. 'Retirement' was really just passing the snow line! There are much tougher times ahead before we can unfurl the flag! Although my profile says I'm 69, I am actually only about your age in my mind. It was my grandmother taught me this. When she was 93 (and I was about 15), she told me "You know, I may look old, but inside I am a girl of 18". That gave me a lot of food for thought (and disbelief) but I have carried inside me and I know it's true! 33 (or 23, for that matter) is not old ... but it's not too young, either. You are exactly as old (as the saying goes) as the girl you feel!

I don't lie about my age. What's the point? I rather relish the thought behind the person whom I disclose my age to, because when I tell them my real age they think I'm lying. I get that a lot during orientation time or my first day at work and we are required to introduce ourselves. After our orientation or during breaktime, my colleagues would ask me about my real age. I don't really look my age which I think is an advantage for me.

Maybe your Kuya's embarrassed? Does he already have his own family? My mother's friends don't like telling their ages too. Whenever I ask them, they change topics! Well, me, honestly I lie about my actual age too because I feel like I want to fit in to the younger ones. Like for example, I am in a group of teenagers and they are all 15 or 16, while I am actually 17, I would lie that I am 16. LOL. Though I'm just a year older, I feel like I want to be as young as them.

In this superficial world is it okay to fudge the numbers when it comes to your age ? Sometimes yes when it comes to applying for a job or getting into a sports team but not every time. At least not with your friends, some keep lying about their age to get a date but think is it your age or simply your state of mind that’s keeping you single?

primeaque86 Hi NO its not really bad, just very human and the funny thing to me at my advanced age 33 seems a bit funny to feel he has to lie aout his age. Would I were 33 again and just married for three years with a great husband and two adorable children,it was such fun and good years. Now with my grey white hair,, and a few wrinkles to say I was 33 would be a really hilarious lie, unbelievable and funny. So I think its sort of humourous and sweet to want to hide his age specially as he has an honest tricky younger brother to rat on him.

For the most part it is usually the females that are hard on to keep their age a private matter. I think though as people get older they don't want to be forthcoming with their real age, it's just something that they are concerned with. Some people are afraid of growing old, or don't want to admit they are old.

that's is true, and specially women here also in the Philippines are afraid of showing there real age, and they are always hiding their faces with the power of cosmetics... but the reality is: each day we grow old, whether we like it or not... and you know friend, until now I could hardly believe that days are very fast, I am running 24 imagine...

and it's not good to rub our eyes, I usually wash it with water... or my eyes look so dark on both side when I would stay awake the whole night... but for women make up can always hide those things. Hahahaha, yes you got it, it's fact, that you could not even notice as time passes, and you would just gonna wonder someday that everything past away, and you could not bring back them anymore, except for anniversaries, but there are things that vanishes as time passes, like our age, like the way we look before... but you know I am not really conscious about age, age doesn't matter for me specially talking about relationships!!!

I was watching an clip of a television talk show that comes on in the morning. Two ladies went out on stage without makeup on and did the whole show without it. I never wear makeup but have dark circles under my eyes from rubbing them too much, so I always look angry if I do not smile. Yes time surely does go by fast, and especially when people are having fun. However, I know what you mean, it seeems like it was mine and my husband's wedding, then thanksgiving and Christmas and now it's already almost summer.

i am not a baby face but only looks younger than my age. maybe, it is because of the great young kids that my body and mind gets back to childhood when we have to consider, playing or get along with their attitudes, habits, etc.

Hi there prime, It's not bad at all..I don't hide my age & definitely not ashamed of it...I'm proud that I reach this certain age & almost all the people I get acquainted tells me I look young at my age..I'm 32 years old..single mom...but I'm feeling so young & beautiful...sometimes I even add another year whenever somebody asked me...as my grandma told me before....that I should add so I can reach that certain age again...have a great day to you & happy mylotting!

This question is one thing that puzzled my mind during my childhood. And now I understand why... I'm actually 21 yrs old but when I get in touch with my friends younger than me I'm starting to feel so old and can't keep with them on every trip. Before, it was a mystery but when you get that old and experience that you'll understand it well. It is actually involuntary sometimes. Your mouth just keep shut up when asked. We maybe scared of the reactions we may get from everyone else. Or we may feel unsatisfied or out of place with the different jive the younger generations do. I guess that's why... ha ha For a child it is very easy to say the real age. Whatever their age is they stay as attractive to most people. Are we not uncomfortable to be with someone older knowing that s/he knows much and had many experiences and you might recognize us for wrong doing? Ha ha
• Philippines
28 Apr 10
you are right friend... when we are in group of friends who are younger than us, we may feel uncomfortable telling them our real age... perhaps we do not want to be serious enough knowing that when we are old, those younger one would expect us to be like old brothers and sisters, same when we are in a peer of older guys and we are the younger one... perhaps we will to say our age as old as them to actually ride on... but that is not really true, whatever our age is, we should be proud of it... and wherever I am , I am proud to say that I am 23 now and would reach 24 this july... and consider a blessing fro heaven, to live this long...

Sometimes when I was younger I would lie about my age. I'm not sure why, I think jus because I really wanted to be older or to convince the person I was older. Or sometimes I lied about my age because you had to be a certain age to participate in a certain thing or whatever was going on. lol but actually the people sometimes believed me so it wasnt that bad :)

No . I celebrate my birthday. it is the one day when I can do Exactly what I want. It is fun, unless there is snow and I'm stuck at home, lol. I just don't keep track of the year of my birth. When I was a teen , whenever anyone asked my age I would figure it out as if I were born in 1685, the year Bach was born.the number never really interested me so I don't keep track of it. All my life I had been Just too young to do what I wanted so now that I may be too old I really don't give a damn!

You know this is an odd thing to me. People hiding their age. I have no idea why this is done. I mean, it is kind of lame to judge people on their age. Therefore, why cater to those people by altering your age. Perhaps as I get older, I might get a bit more sensitive to this. Right now however, I have no idea why people do that. Age can be a rather touchy topic for a lot of people. It is one of those questions that get a double take when it is asked. You can almost see people when they are asked this thinking. The wheels are turning in their head, as they wonder if they should tell the truth or not. And if they lie, they wonder exactly how much they should knock off that age. However, I do not do that, but it is rather common. More common than one would think.

And perhaps like you said, one of these days, we can experience a chapter in our lives that we would find this thing significant, and we would be shocked that we would be trying to hide about it too... hmmmmmnnnn
