Having water problems in an apartment complex can be unfair to others.

This morning, I got up around 4 this morning. My husband told me that the water was off. I was like, "what". I just woke up from sleeping and I found this information hard to grasp. Since I have been living out here, a leak was coming from our downstairs neighbors ceiling. There was a small wet spot. And when our commode would flush upstairs, it affected the neighbors downstairs, ceiling. Where our commode was, was their ceiling. But this was in March. Now this morning, the building that is across from us had a water problem. Our water was shut off for about 8 hours this morning because of it. This included all of the residents water. So, everyone was without water this morning. That is one thing that I don't like about living in this apartment complex. If there is a water problem and the maintenance needs to shut it off, it effects every resident that is staying out here. Isn't that a bummer? This is the expense of having to stay in an apartment. I hope that their problem is fixed. It took a long time for our water to turn back to its normal color. It was running brownish and rusted at first.

Wow, that sucks. How old is the apartment? Maybe the age is a problem because of old, rusty pipes. I hope the landlord can do something!

Hi, callmecat. I think that this apartment is over 20 something years old or older. It was remodeled about seven years ago.

I have horror stories from when I lived in the bottom apartment in my complex building. It was about two years ago. I posted about it on mylot. I would tell you what they were, but it would take too long. But it was so awful I was in tears. Many times. After that, I knew I could never live in the bottom apartment again. I now live on the top floor, and I'm so glad I do!

This happens to us from time to time and we live in a house in a subdivision. Every time the water is off my husband will give me that *look*...the one that accuses me of not paying the water bill, which I do. So then I have to call the water company only to get the same excuse about a "problem" somewhere along the line and the promise that the water will be back on soon.

Our city does a flush around differently areas every few years so I know how it is to have this inconvenience. It would be a bummer. I hope their problem is fixed soon too. UGH! I never liked living in an apartment. The only nice thing about it is that you aren't responsible for all the repairs and outside maintenance.

yes even in our locality there is water problem..so wat we have done is that we have made a big tank, and in the mornin when the water starts it gets automatically filled..water usually comes in the mornin,,so we need not to wake up early,it was a very good idea, then when we need the water we use a powerfull motor to pump it to our specific tank,,,,

hi cream yes those are really problems and since they have hooked up everyone on the same water main its really the pits. there's not a whole'lot you can do about it either. It seems like there should be a better way of running water into all the apartments so that if one apt has problems the other people do not have to have the same problems'too.

Yuck! I hope it is all fixed now. I didn't like living in an apartment at all we lived in a large building with lots of units so there were always some kind of problems going on either with the building or with one of the neighbors. We couldn't take it anymore we ended up moving in to a town house, which was still attached to a couple of other homes but at least you owned all your own utilities, but still had to put of with utilities, but we were able to use the equity we earned from that town house to move in to the house we are in now, and now we don't have put up with anything. I feel for you, I remember those days of living an apartment.

I hope that leak problem gets fixed soon too! Yep, we deal with this too. But our manager always gives us a heads up when the maintenance guy will shut the water off . . . she tapes a note on the door saying the water will be shut off from X time to X time on X day because of repairs that need to be done. It's usually about a 2 to 4 hour frame - and during the time when everyone should already be at work. That doesn't help a mom like me who's at home and needs water when there are kids here . . . but we try to make the most of it. My hubby is already out early, so I make sure I get my shower in. I try to leave a bucket of water out on the sink in case my daughter needs to wash her hands. I'll either do dishes before or after if I can't do it on time (I hate dishes piling up, but oh well). Often we have plans to be out during the day anyway, so I don't have to worry about water in the place anyway . . . but you're right - we do have to deal with that rusty water that comes out (sometimes it's black too). I just let all the faucets run for 5 - 10 minutes or so when it's on again. We are fortunate that we have managers that are mostly on top of things and at least give us fair warning. Still we are inconvenienced, but I figure the sooner they get to getting repairs done, the faster it's over with and no one has to be further inconvenienced (til the next leak . . . ).

Proper maintanance in must in order to solve like this problems. You have to organise apartment owners and You have to arrange a meet on your apartment problems. You must choose a dedicated person as ur president. Or you may motivate your neighbours how to save the water resources.... ONE THING IS CLEAR. WE SHOULD SAVE WATER. DONT WASTE IT.
