I thought that i would take a look on Ebay for a small car for my daughter, something like a KA, corsa or even a clio.I noticed that there were more classified ads than there were private sellers, hence hardly any cars to bid on.What is the point of having loads of cars on a bid site that you can not bid on only buy at car dealers prices.

Hi Jugs, Mydaughter got her Peugot 206 off of Ebay, when you go in just tick the auction only box and it will get rid ofthe classfied and show you the cars you really can bid one. Good luck, my daughters was an excellent buy, also another friendof mine sold her Honda Hornet on there recently too and I know that bike had been lovingly looked afterand had done few miles so still bargains on there. Huggles. Ellie :D

That's a great idea Ellie. I do quite a bit of window shopping on EBay in practice for the real thing. I try to teach myself to be observant. . I hesitate buying a car sight - unseen. I know someone who has done it and it wasn't an expensive car but still...you can be ripped off so easily by someone unscrupulous. I have bought things before on Ebay from sellers who did not disclose pertinent information about the goods. Info that unless you ask the right questions beforehand the buyer has not got a clue.

I think there is a problem with selling cars privately on E-bay, but dealers will always use it. I wouldn't put my car on E-bay because there is so much hassle. If somebody bids for it for example, they would then come and see the vehicle and could change their mind. A little scratch here or there and they could quit the deal, which would leave me with a bill to pay from E-bay and be left with the car. It is cheaper to advertize it on the windscreen, local stores, or small local newspaper, which I have done successfully many time. There are sometimes a private car to bid on, but I too have found this to be rare, and would rather go out and look to see what's about locally, that I can then check over carefully, there and then. _Derek

Ebay vendors sell direct to the consumer without the middle men, thereby saving the consumer money while increasing their profit margin. They generally will barter for your business which is the next best thing to bidding.

My husband has now got a car which he made a best offer for off Ebay.He went to look at the car first aswell as told the bloke how much his offer would be aswell as that it would be a total cash sale.He had someone run a check on the car before he went to ensure that it was not on hp aswell as not a right off car that had been put back on the road after being done up.He got a 2003 Fiesta tdc.

I’ve never considered purchasing a car from EBay but it is a reputable auction site so why not? You may well get yourself a good bargain. If you select ‘auction only’ you should be able to place bids on your selection and hopefully save some money. I think the trick is to keep your wits about you at the end of the auction when all competing bids come in; if you have your heart set on the item you can end up paying more than you planned because you may have been outbid at the eleventh hour. Good luck with it...

I have noticed that there are alot of people that bid at the end of an auction, that is what my husband tends todo all the time.I think that there are alot of people that are selling cars on there but some of them are miles away from me.

I think it might cost you a lot for the shipping of this car. I prefer to buy stuffs smaller in size on ebay. Well good luck. and Have a nice weekend.

I don't think that I would ever personally consider buying a car on EBAY because of the fact that I've heard there are as many scams that happen with EBAY motors as there are with things that are "sold" on Craig's List. I can completely see why you are looking for a cheap car for your daughter. However, I think that the best thing that you would be able to do to find a cheap car for your daughter would be to look at your local classifieds and find your bargain there.

We looked in all the classifieds and there was nothing that took our fancy. My husband drove 20 miles down the road to view a car that was on Ebay and he paid for this car and he said that it is alot less tax to payout on it a year aswell as cheaper to insure and fuel.He had someone do a check on the car, aswell as that way he knew before he got there if it was a cut and shut, stole or on hp.

I think that it is like when you look in a news paper now as the prices are there as it states.Where as i thought that Ebay used to be a great place to bid as that is the fun of an auction site aswell as to get a great deal at the same time.

hi jugsjugs that is odd indeed but I think this is probably because of the economy of course Im thinking morein terms of where I am, which is in the US California to be exact. My son was thinking of selling an odd bike someone had given him that he really did not like, and he gave a description of it and all, and found there were no buyers at all for that new bike, which was really surprising as he did not want a huge amount of money out of it. Maybe you will have to look else where for inexpensive cars maybe some place like CraigsList? I know a car dealer ship will be more costly. good luck in your search and God bless.

Unfortunately ebay which started out as a great place for auction has become so commercially successfully, all the major retailer use the service.

I think that it is a shame that they are more like a shop now rather than an auction site as alot of people like me enjoys all the fun off bidding up aswell as getting a good deal. There is not much fun in going on there if you do not have many things that you can bid on.

Hi there again, I've been reading all the posts for your discussion and even though ebay is great for brilliant cheap deals, I would never buy a car from there for two very good reasons: 1) Could be a stolen vehicle and if anything went wrong with it and you had to take it for repairs, then you might have difficulties with insurance if the car is still registered under the original owners name - you would be done for theft even though you purchased it innocently. (Saw a recent documentary about stolen cars being sold on websites that included Ebay) last week and why I thought I should put this to let you know that this is happening and you only have to go to the ebay question and answer site to know that it isn't a reputable market place for vehicles. 2) You can't check the body work over from a picture however convincing it looks, so might need repairs the seller fails to mention and something less obvious. I would recommend going to a car dealership that sells second-hand cars or open a savings account such as an ISA account for you daughter as this makes a lot of interest over a short period of time in which she can then buy a car that she likes from a reputable company, that way both you and she are guaranteed a safer bargain than taking a risk I would never do in a million years from an on-line site. I know that you want to surprise her with a great gift and see her lovely reaction, but perhaps the ISA account will be an even better way of surprising her as she can then see the money grow and have a better quality of choice of car when if you bought one from ebay and it all went wrong, it would be such a disappointing thing and could lose the money you spent.
