i had my husband brother who lymphoma stage 4 and are so worried about where he got the cancer, its was new to us especially lymphoma,2 months ago his brother was well and the time we knew what is the diagnosis is that he consult to 4 different specialist but they diagnosis that he has an ulcer.so they prescribed medicines but on the following days he feel abdominal pain and he said he has a movable cease or something on his neck and i touch and palpate it so i suggest that this should be need an ultrasound to see what is that.there are 4 doctors that misdiagnosed his brother and we felt bad about it because they prescribed medication which is not related to his brother condition.thats the time we seek an cancer specialist at that time he had the ultrasound and ct scan the radiologist let me in to see on the monitor he has many cease found in his large intestine, some was also noted on his lungs.and i can't believe what i have seen i was shocked because we knew it was simple condition. we didn't knew at all that the cancer cell are spreading so fast.we were crying his mom crying and helpless how come this happen.because he didn't show any signs until he felt something on his neck a lump and some stomach pain which not relieve by any strong pain reliever.all the test was done and he started chemotherapy and radiation it was like where we going to find a 200k pesos every season of chemo, the doctor said it was 8 season and the family start asking for help to all their friends.it was very difficult for the family to see their son is suffering at a very young age.and now he had his 5th chemo his loosing so much weight, pale, loosing his hair.very painful to us to see his too young to have the disease. the cause of disease was unknown but his aunt had cancer of the colon,we know it can be hereditary factor though he might also expose to chemicals.why is the cancer disease has increasing these recently unlike before it was not existed?is this related to lifestyle?

I don't know whether cancer is necessarily more prevalent than it was in the past. It's quite likely that cancer is just as frequent or less frequent than it was before, but now we have better technologies in order to detect and heal cancer. So who knows how often cancer presented in the past? They didn't have the same methods of detecting cancer.

i think this is because you hear about it more and it seems to be more prevalent than it used to be. diseases that hit earlier centuries such as the plague and tb have almost been eradicated.

There are a LOT of reasons cancer seems more common now. First, and most importantly, we live a LOT longer than before. An old person was 45, and the few that lived past 70 or 80 were very remarkable. Second, and only some what less important, we eat a lot more chemicals than our grand parents did, and some of them do things to some people that we might not realize - like in the 50's taking a certain med caused birth defects.

It is a very sad and scary situation, and I am sorry to hear that your family is going through this right now. As other people have said, though, I don't necessarily think that more people have cancer these days (percentage wise compared to the overall population), but we do hear about it more for various reasons. We have better means of communication, so there is an abundance of information that people did not have access to years ago. In addition, there were many other diseases that killed people very young, so many deaths were attributed to these diseases when some of those deaths might actually have been due to other things, such as cancer, or the other diseases could have killed the people before the cancer was diagnosed. People get screened for certain kinds of cancer now, too, as a means for early detection and treatment that was not available before, so the cancer is identified and treated much earlier. Years ago there were not these procedures and treatments, so many cases probably were not detected or properly diagnosed. I do agree that we hear about cancer a lot more now, though, and it is terrifying.

Science say that cancer is hereditary, yes that could be but I also think we are all predisposed to cancer because of our evolving lifestyle. We tend to eat more of the chemically enhanced and processed food nowadays. If you noticed people before rarely get cancer because all they put into their food was organic and natural ingredients. The meat they consume ate naturally available feeds, the environment was less polluted and fresh clean running water that did not go through a lot of chlorination and processing was still abundant. Let's compare that to what we are eating today, which one is healthier?

the ancient civilization has more healthier when it comes to food processing no chemical was being used before.they leave longer although because we have advances technological in medicines the life expectancy is prolong comparing to 70-80s.

Fist facor is industrial pollution in food, air, water. Second, nervous emotion in repressed working environmemt. Third, bad habbits such as smoking, drinking etc.. We'd better eat more green vegetables and build up clean industry.

yes industrialize environment makes us prone to different disease not only cancer.all of us is prone to have a cancer because we have already have cancer cells in our body which is not activated yet because we are in good health it will be activated in times we were not only expose to different stress factor but also chemicals.

There are many reasons attributed to growth of cancer these days. First of all the smoking generation is feeling the heat. The 70s and 80s were very much into smoking and chain smoking, the effects of which are now very visible with cancers being reported amongst this community of people. The second reason is the increase in pollution and industrialization means more exposure to elements that can lead to cancer. Also, radiation from various sources is increasing including the reduction of the ozone layer leading higher intensity solar waves which can cause cancer, though the damage due to this is pretty low as of yet!! Cheers! Ram

I guess cancer has always been the number 1 killer in the world?? IT can be hereditary, as well as due to many other factors.. LIfestyle is one of them but it's not guranteed.. Even for someone healthy, whom dun drink, dun smoke, but exercise regularly, and is a vegetarian, might have chance of having cancer too.. Everything is based on risk and chance.. Nobody can help it.. And life is just that unfair.. Sometimes, those whom are supposed to have cancer instead, live healthy till old age.. What i can say is, it's all fate..

i think now a days more of us are not aware on what we are eating and most of the foods we eat have too much preservatives and chemical agents, unlike before its all natural, no preservatives to be added, just like when you are planting vegetables before our grandparents they just put dried leaves or some dried animal stool and can be a fertilizer, but now some of the farmers they are using fertilizer product just to have a nice and healthy products which we dont know that they have lots of chemical, nice to see when we saw in the market but how they made.We must be conscious on what we are eating all the time specially the canned goods, or other preservatives foods. And also the meat products specially red meat.

Actually all of us have cancer cells its just that they are not actually on the level of being malignant. A lot of written reports on cancer were all over the internet. Cancer cells needs sugar to grow so you can imagine almost all the food we are eating nowadays are filled with sugar. From ice cream to sweet stuff and various bread with sugar fillings. We just have to take into consideration our diet and if cancer runs in the family they have to be checked every year just to be sure.
