Losing weight by rearranging your refridgerator?

I read an article a couple of days ago that says that you might be able to lose weight simply by rearranging the food in your fridge. The article suggests that on the top shelf you put high calories drinks in the back and put water and reduced calorie drinks in front on them. Shelf number two should consist of fruits and veggies. Stock the thrid shelf with sources of lean protein. Store any tempting items like leftover restaurant items and sweets in the crisper where they aren't easily seen. When I first read it, frankly it sounded silly but then I thought about it and it might make sense. Grocery stores stock high profit margin items at eye level and lower profit items on the bottom shelf. What do you think? Can this work? Do you have any tips to trick us into losing weight by eating less? By making better choices? By making us exercise more? Please share them with all of us.

It seems to be a good idea. I have been trying to loose weight for long but as i dont do any exercises it is very difficult. But recently I have found an ayurvedic medicine and has been very helpful. I should also include this habit and change the eating habits so that i can reduce quickly. Recently i have been stopped by some people who are selling slimming products to give advise about loosing weight and i am getting real concious of my weight. Hope to soon reduce and be slim, trim and sexy.

I would strongly enourage you to exercise not just for weight loss but also to help prevent disease as you get older. All you need to do is walk to start. If you can't walk for a 30 minute stretch, start with 5 or 10 minutes at a time, five or 6 times a day. As you lose weight and get stronger, add weight training to strengthen your bones and muscles. Your body will thank you when you reach the age of 60+

Hi LaurenInLA! I can see that what you said here makes sense actually. It's such a wonderful tip. It's good to know and spread the message around. Silly I haven't thought about it. And thanks.

I didn't think about it either. It' such a small thing but permanent weight loss is built on a foundation of small changes.

That sounds a very sensible ploy but an even better one would be not to have any high calorie stuff in the fridge at all (at least, not the kind that you can snack on). Substitute apple slices, carrot sticks and celery batons (if you want something a little more savoury and substantial, fill the celery sticks with a little low-fat cream cheese or Philly mixed with herbs) for snack sausages or chocolate; plain or flavoured water (you can even pay more for the better quality sparkling waters like San Pelegrino) or low calorie drinks instead of ANY high calorie ones; low fat yoghurts instead of your normal ones. If you can't stop the snacking habit, at least encourage it to be healthy! Really and truly, however, meals should be meals and everyone should feel hungry when they sit down to them. It's snacking between meals that really encourages the body to put on fat. Good solid meals two or perhaps three times a day (if people are doing real physical work in between) is really the healthiest lifestyle. We really need to reinvent the pleasure of feeling hungry!

I agree with you but that isn't always easy to do that when there are others living in the house as well that don't need to lose weight. Fortunately for me, my problem is greasy salty things and the other members of the household like sweets. I can take them or leave them.

hni lauren I have lost 25 pounds most by just dringking a lot more water and thus not so hungry for calorific foods at meals, I think I was going around semi dehydrated as my legs were holding fluid and I had to bo back and forth o n five days of lasix and potassium then off five days. because i was on steriods for an allergy attack my blood sugar was way too high so I decided to drink it down with plenty of water;. I not only lowered my blood sugar level, I saw mylegs really sort of deflate. when i was weighed again I weighed twent five pounds ligbter. I still have a long ways to go but thats a good start and all from drinking enough water and just cutting higher caloried food into half, just eat half and fill up on vegbies and fruits. Now to tackle the fifty pounds more I need to lose and I will be really healthy agaIn. I am a diabetic and losing weight helps us to really control our blood sugar so much better.I am not starving myself and I see to it I get adequate protein and whole grains but I just cut the portions they give us in half on the higher caloried things. it really does work too.

Now I have started to slow down f ollowing my table mate. she makes eating almost an art as I see her take these tiny bites then chew for a long while, she is Filipino and a really sweet person too. thanks so much for best response.

Water is an excellent solution. I've tried to train myself to drink a glass of water when I think that I'm hungry as I have often read that oftentimes when we think that we are hungry that we are actually thirsty. Another thing that is working for me is to chew each bite of food 25 times. Then I put my fork down and take a drink of water and pause for a couple of seconds before I take another bite. I tend to rush through meals and when I eat slowly I find that I am satisfied on much less food. Best of luck on the next 50 lbs. I know that you can do it!

I've also heard something like that. Or, also re-arranging your cupboards is apparently a good idea - put the junk food way in the back, so you don't see it the first time you open the cupboard and make the impulse decision to eat it. i suppose you could also just get rid of the fast food and junk food in your home, too, and that would probably work pretty well.

Yes, i think it is possible, but not only by rearenging the refrigiderator, also changing the containing of a refrigerator. If you have only healthy food in it, and because of course we are lazy, we will eat what it has, and do not make the trouble of getting outside for that delicious Kebab only until the fridge is empty :d

That's a good point. Besides being lazy, most of us want to eat healthy but sooner or later when we get tempted, we break our resolve.
