Timing is everything

Yesterday and the day before, Southwest airlines was having a sale. Many flights within the US were $30, $60, $90 or $120 each way. Oh I had such fun looking. I could have done Orlando or Louisville for $240, Philadelphia for $217, Burbank or San Diego for $60 or Las Vegas for either $60 or $120 (I forget). Of course, most of the flights were for weekdays, not during the holidays. I don't have time to take off work, and I don't like taking the children out of school. And I'm trying to pay off my dern bills. But I sure had fun looking. I would have liked to take the children back east to see the family, visit DC, etc., but the time just wasn't right. Dearra would have wanted to go to Atlanta for the Invader Zim conference. I'm pretty sure the twins would have voted for Orlando. If you had the time and the money, would you take advantage of an airfare sale like that? Where would you go and what would you do?

I would have, if I'd known about it, scheduled flights for my Mom and I to NYC. We'd have stayed with my nephew (but not sure how Mom would have made the stairs?) in Brooklyn. She's never been to the NE and wants to go before she passes. We've been talking about a road trip, but flying there and renting a car, would have been pretty cool. Guess I should check the flights more often...

Well, I wish I would have known about these because I haven't had the opportunity to travel in a very long time. I would personally like to go to Orlando if I was to stay east of the Mississippi river. However, I'd also love to have the opportunity to travel to California or Las Vegas. Unfortunately, I would have to drive about 70 miles to get to an airport that has a Southwest hub because the closest to our house is in Louisville.

As a matter fact, I was also looking last night. Not only for flights but for vacation packages. I found a 3-night package to Vegas for only $207! With hotel and airfare. It even had a voucher for a free tour to Hoover dam. And yes, it's only for weekdays. The prices increases dramatically if it's on a weekend.

Hi ! You make it sound as though it is very cheap. I am not sure, but it still looks quite costly to me. Besides, I haven't been anywhere near a plane. Anyway, Wish you a good Vacation when find yourself the time for it :) Cheers :)

That is cheap for the US. I can't speak for prices in other countries. But if you look up at the response from Astonysh, you will see that Europe isn't so cheap either.

That sounds really lovely. I was going to do that on the cruise I went on, but because of high winds, we couldn't dock at that island.

Hubby keeps refusing to do this.He has stuff he wants to take that we would not be able to. I would have had us fly to Boston, instead of driving to New Hampshire. His sis could have picked us up. What he does not realize is that he would get to go more often if he would make this choice.

Believe me we even have zero airfare introduced by a low budget airline here. But it is only available on certain period and the time for travelling is usually for night flights or early morning. All we need to pay is the airport tax and of course we are only allowed to carry limited baggage. The most is 15kg. In these days of cheapish airfares we can now travel anywhere but still we need enough budget for accommodation and foods. I hope to take advantage of the cheap airfares to see any part of the world probably next year. This is a great opportunity to see the world when airfares are reducing their prices. I would like to go to Jerusalem or to Lourdes to see these holy places.

Heck if it's a short flight, I'd do it for a day trip if I could make the time!

I hope that the sale prices on South West Airlines will continue. The USA is a large country so it is well worth taking advantage of cheap airfares. I think that your children would love a trip to Orlando. There would be much to interest them in sunny Florida I am sure. If British Airways had a sale I would like to see London to Mauritius for £200, London to Rio De Janeiro for £300 and Sydney for £400. I think that airport taxes and a fuel charge add much to air fares. If I had the time and money I would go for one of those flights If I got to go to Mauritius I would be able to spend time on palm fringed islands. If I got to visit Rio I would be able to explore some of South America. If I had the chance to go to Sydney I would be able to celebrate New Year's Eve with fireworks. I would also be able to re-visit all my favorite sights.

It was only a 2 day sale, but hopefully it will be back when I am more able to commit to a trip. The children have been to Orlando already, and while I'd love to go there again, I'd rather take them somewhere new.

Hey dawny! It is nice to dream isn't it? Not much of a flyer or traveler so really wasn't that curious. And after today's news changed my mind about booking any flights altogether for awhile! I was thinking about using the money Delta gave me to go back to Florida, since me and Mom got along so well and my tan is fading. But, now that the "latest news" has come out today about "heighted alerts" again and the latest bomb threats I think I'll wait or take the train? NY's Airports are super tight with their security and now it is going to be crazier~ This news has unnerved me once again! Thanks terrorists!

AT $30 each way, I could have done more than dream, but a trip just doesn't fit into my life right this second. Oh well, there will be more sales...

I hope such offers continue for some time. I plan to visit US sometime over the next month or so. When I visit US such offers could be very useful for me. I know prizes of tickets will go up closer to the Christmas holidays, so I will try to beat that timeline. Cheers! Ram

Hopefully they will have another sale soon. Don't know why they only do it for 2 days, a lot of people can't commit to purchasing tickets that quickly.
