Multiple "Boring"Discussions-Does this Annoy You?

i'm sorry, but i find it very irritating to open a discussion page and find 10 or 12 multiple discussions in a row and in my opinion, a lot of the time, the topics are so silly and irrelevant i automatically pass them by without a thought. To me, it is very obvious that the discussion starters are doing this for no other reason than believing that the more discussions they begin, the more money they will make and this is just not the case. I just don't believe these people "really" want to know what time i get up in the morning or what i regularly eat for breakfast. In the first place, these questions do not inspire a discussion, they usually can be answered with one or a few words, which defeats the purpose of community and sharing of opinions. Interested in knowing your thoughts about this.

This is an unavoidable trap for any forum which gives out pennies for posts. But on the other hand, at least this forum does have a wide variety of boring posts to go through. lol Just kidding. I do like that wide variety of topics, even if you have to wade through dozens of boring 'I want money, so I posted this topic of pop corn and mustard- which do you prefer?'.

I agree with you and that's why I dropped so many of my interests. The discussions were just too boring. Those types of discussions seem to get a lot of responses, however. I suppose it's because very little thought has to go into one's answer.

Yes, it's bad enough these discussions are annoying and yet they do seem to get quite a few responses but what's so mind boggling are discussions where you know some thought had to be put into them, getting 1 or 2 responses or none at all, go figure.

When I find that the discussions are starting to become boring, I usually start researching on the news sites or where ever else I can think to look, and I start creating my own discussions. This seems to work well for me, and it takes my mind off the fact that other people are posting discussions that I am not interested in. I hope this helps you...

it's not so much that most of these discussions are boring, since i simply ignore them. What bothers me the most is when i see almost an "entire" page filled with discussion topics started by the same person, that are in my opinion so irrelevant and so pointless, i can't see why anyone would go through the trouble of starting them in the first place.the only reason i can think of is what i mentioned in my discussion, they must be "thinking" that the more discussions they start, the more they will be paid, which if anyone who has been here for any length of time knows, you do not get paid for the amount of discussions you post, but rather for the responses you give and receive.

I think judging a discussion as 'boring' is relative. It really depends on the person--what may be boring for one, may be interesting for some. What I do most of the time, is just to pick discussions that are interesting to me or something that I can readily share my opinions on. Otherwise, I just move on, ignore, and find other discussions that I find interesting to answer.

yes,it may be relative as to what some find "boring" or interesting and as i mentioned i will ignore these but there are quite a few that in my opinion, are not only boring but are really "poll" questions that only require a yes or no answer and when you see practically see an entire page filled with these types of discussions started by the same person, it can be quite annoying.Mylot is a "discussion" website i can't see how you can have a meaningful discussion when so many of the topics are really only questions such as, what's your favorite vegetable? if there were'nt so many of these on so many different topics,it wouldn't bother me in the least.

i see where you are coming from. It seems that people will do things like this, but also it depends on how creative a persons mind is. we should not criticise those that can't put much thought into discussions, we also should look at creating different topics of discussions.

When someone starts a discussion that simply asks a question that almost anyone can answer with one or two words, i do not consider this a discussion. So, i don't think i'm being overly critical. Anyone , even a child can come up with some of the discussion topics i see here and when you see so many of these types of discussions in a row taking up almost an entire page, it gets to be quite annoying.i have responded to many discussions where i felt at least the one who posted it, put "some" thought into their discussion.

Well, just ignore them buddy. There are so many of the here. I know they won't last long because their only inspiration is money. Is the moderator still active? I hope so because MyLot might need many members but if they won't start cleaning up boring discussions, they will be bankrupt in no time.

I do ignore them. but, when it seems like every day i see 10 or 12 of these discussions listed in a row taking up almost the whole page, i just find this annoying.

In the latest case of 'duplicates' I believe that the person erroneously thought that you get more responses if you post the same thing in different interests. All that is likely to happen is that they ALL get deleted. More often, though, it is people with slow connections who believe that the discussion didn't post. You are quite right about the trite 'What is your favourite ... ?' kind of question. They are called 'poll' type questions and will also usually be deleted. The proper thing to do is to help MyLot keep the place clean and report them.

I wish i could say these discussions usually get deleted, but i come across so many of them every day .As a matter of fact, just today, i opened a page and there were no less than 12 discussions in a row started by the same person and to say the topics were irrelevant, would be putting it mildly.and what was really annoying is, they were topics on 12 "different" subjects.

LOL well they might not really care specifically what time you get up in the morning but it can start a discussion once you leave a comment about what time you get up and why then the discussion starter can find something to say about it. What shouldnt be asked simply is What time you get up because then people will just write the time and nothing else. The person who starts a discussion like this needs to tell about what time they get up and why they get up at that time as well as ask you what time you get up and why you get up at that time. That way its actually a discussion instead of just a one line question. I like the simple discussions like that because they dont take much thought for me to leave a comment lol.

They don't really bug me, no. If I don't find it interesting enough to respond to, I'll just skip over it and be done with it. What does bug me is when someone starts a discussion and only writes one or two words. I'm thinking..You call THAT a discussion? Anyway, though, it's REALLY hard to think up of a good, long-winded and interesting discussion that people will be interested in responding to. It's really hard!

i agree it's difficult to come up with interesting discussios, but i would rather search for interesting ones than to see an "entire" page taken up with, in my opinion really pointless silly topics, sometimes started by the same person.I just don't see the point. How can someone be so interested in what my favorite vegetable is,? or my favorite color? And about the one or two word discussions , although i don't see many of these, i agree they are just as irritating as the others and are equally ignored by me.

This discussion has cropped up alot over the time i have been on here and i have been on this site for over two years.I will say that there are alot of people that will answer a discussion that they think is interesting, yet another person may think that it is very boring. If i am not interested in a discussion then i will not answer it, instead i will go to a discussion that i find interesting. If there are no interesting discussions then i will look through my old discussions and reply to a few responses that i have had on there.Just because things do not interest you, it do not mean noone else is interested in a persons discussions.

if you think someone asking you what your favortie color is, or your favorite vegetable is, and then seeing 10 or 12 of these types of discussions one right after the another isn't annoying and repetitive , you are entitled to your opinion. in the first place.if you read through my discussion or if you read the comments of the person i chose for best response, i think you would better understand the point i was making here.Of course!, i ignore these types of so called discussions since they arent discussions at all, but one line questions that are frowned on by Mylot as well. i'm very well aware people have separate interests and can respond to any discussion they choose, but from what i've learned there a great many people who agree that not only are these type of posts not discussions, they should also be deleted and many are.

Well, in my opinion, I would rather ignore them. And i would like to reply to threads that has knowledge in it. That is my point of view there.

Couldn't agree more. I see no purpose to them at all, expect maybe taking up so much room on one page.

Hey jujunme, I totally agree with you.I joined here two days ago and i observe the same thing what you did,the topics are very silly like where did you go,what kind of drink etc which can be answered in a word or a line. Sorry i do not mean to hurt anybody, but it doesn't have anything to say much more than a line or a one word answer. So please open up some useful discussions and hope people take it in a positive way. Thank you.

I don't mean to hurt anyones feelings either, but besides being unimportant these discussions can also take up so much room on one page, it seems unfair to me.A lot of people won't go as far as the 3rd or 4th page to look for an interesting discussion to respond to, thinking that they may have been started many hours or days ago.so, when you see all these discussions on one page, you just might close out that topic altogether.
