How many of us work in health care professions?

I just wondered how many of us at myLot work, or have worked, in health care. Did you work with dental, medical, pharmacy or what? I was a nurse and worked (mostly) with the visiting nurse association doing home hospice. I also worked in hospitals and nursing homes. What type of health care worker were you?

I was working with the mentally ill before I came to live with my son and help him with his children. I was sory of a house mother. They have such interesting stories. The mental health program was set up to help the clients get jobs and their own homes. We were the first step to getting them back into the world

Bless your heart debomb, that's really a difficult field to work in. I'm sure they do have really interesting stories to tell. It's nice that they have programs, and people, working to get them back into the mainstream of life. Thanks for sharing!

Until recently the Senior Nurse Manager in a GP practice in England. I worked in A&E, head injury intensive care, gynaecology, general medicine etc before that. Then I was the night sister at the University and did my own on-calls at night. Now I am retired (sob sob) and looking for a job as a translator. Still think of myself as a nurse though, because it was the biggest part of my life

You've really had a busy life, lol! (Sounds like you might like retiring and slowing down a little:-) When you've been in nursing as long as we have, it's an ingrained part of our personality and our being...we will always identify with that even though we retire. What language will you translate? I wish you much happiness in your retirement! Thanks for sharing!

I have worked in several nursing homes. I miss some of the people I met while there. I seen people come and go. I am now a sahm-wahm trying to earn a dollar at home being with my kids instead of 18.00 hr.away from them. They grow up so fast.

I'm glad you found a work at home solution! Yes, kids grow so fast, it's good that you can be there for them.

I've worked in nursing homes when I used to be a CNA. I also used to do private duty. It was more pay. It felt very rewarding. I love working with the elderly.

That's wonderful! I love working with the elderly too, there is so much to learn from them. I used to love to ask them to tell me about their childhood, or when they were growing up, even the quietest, shyest of them would open up and chat with happiness. It's nice that you found it rewarding too! Thanks for responding.

I don't work in health care, but have volunteered in hospitals and have considered going into a field like radiology/ultrasound.

Volunteering is work...you just don't get paid for it except in the reward of doing it. That's wonderful of you to donate your time like that! Radiology and/or untrasound is a good field to go into, qualified personnel is needed everywhere. Thanks for writing!

I am a certified mastectomy fitter, although I no longer am employed with the place that I practiced. I would love to do it still, but there isn't another place to work that offers this service.

How wonderful Koushika!! How much longer do you have to go? Are you planning on going into any special area. (It doesn't matter what you choose, EVERY area is special in it's own right, and has it's own needs and expertise.) I wish you the best of luck in your chosen profession!

I work in a long-term care facility as the 3-11 shift charge nurse and Medicare-skilled wing nurse. Sometimes it is rough when people die or get confused and agitated. I hate when someone who is sweet and kind falls and breaks something or has to go for stitches. I feel most helpful with the hospice patients. I like knowing that I have made their passing more peaceful.

I work in a long-term care facility, they don't like to be called nursing homes anymore in these times of political correctness. I am a RN and work on the Medicare/Skilled/Dementia wing. That means these confused people can't remember not to stand up on a post-surgical leg and can't remember not to pull out their staples! And now restraints are illegal. These people need alot of watching and reminding.

Gee, I never thought of the words 'nursing home' as being politically incorrect. Bless your heart for working in that kind of facility, and unit. Dementia is hard to work with. I had an alzheimer's patient when I was with Visiting Nurse...it's definitely a challenge sometimes! I'm sure you put in more energy into your job than most. Thanks for the input!

I am training to be a operating department practitioner, where I scrub up and assist the surgeon with operations and I assist the anaesthetist whilst making sure everything done is correct, legal, ethical and safe.
