I am picking up my little granddaughter in a little while and for supper we are going to make homemade pizza. I bought the box with the crust and sauce in it and bought mozzerella cheese and pepperoni for toppings and also some pineapple as she just likes pineapple and cheese...I need the pepperoni! Do you make homemade pizza or do you prefer to buy it? What do you use for the toppings?

Which brand pizza crust/sauce do you buy? I've tried making homemade pizza with the crust sold at Walmart (the Great Value one). But the one I usually end up making is the pizza dough that is made in my local grocery store (Publix) deli. It turns out pretty good. Then I make my own pizza sauce and put on my toppings. I personally prefer just cheese pizza or else maybe some minced up garlic, onion, tomatoes, and fresh basil. Now I am really craving some pizza. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I bought the Chef Boyardee box mix. I had to let the crust raise just five minutes but the sauce was very good..we thought it was anyway! LOL

usually if I make pizza, it's using one of those ready made crusts, and usually for the kids it's just cheese, for me it's mushroom.

I make home made pizza all the time. My boys love it. I make the dough myself. It's cheaper that way and doesn't take long, adn it means that I can add herbs or whatever to it. Yum! Toppings wise I use tomato sauce with basil normally as it's one of the ones I bottle, and loads and loads of cheese. We normally use goats cheese at home as we have goats, but it doesn't melt right so I do buy special cheese for pizzas. Then i just add whatever veggies I have at home. I like sweetcorn on pizzas, and peppers. Best of all I like pineapple though, so I guess i have that in common with your grandaughter :-)

That's a great idea and a great way to bond with your granddaughter. And it's great because you get to custom make your pizza any way you want it and you know they won't screw it up.

I don't consider what you're talking about "homemade." Homemade pizza is made from scratch. You make the dough for the crust, and you make the pizza sauce. Buying ready made crust and sauce may be cheaper than buying a ready made pizza, and you can add your own toppings, so it probably even tastes better, but it definitely isn't homemade.

Well this is as close to homemade as possible..I have never seen a recipe for pizza crust anywhere nor have I seen a recipe for sauce...

I just use a normal bread dough recipe, and roll it out as thin as I can for a nice crispy thin base.

I loooove making home made pizza!! Its not hard, and very delicious! Do you have a store called Trader Joes by you?? They have reeeally good dough you can buy individually for like $1.30each and they're perfect for a 10-12in pizza! =] I usually do chicken and garlic and mozzarella, or just pepperoni and mozzarella. Yum!!

I recommend going if you are in the area, its a neat little chain of stores. They are decently priced and quite health oriented. =D [like Whole Foods, if you have those, but much better prices & smaller] I'm glad your grandaughter had fun! Its good to learn cooking is fun when you're little so it won't be considered a chore later! ;]

How fun. Can't wait until our grandbaby is older and we can do things like this together. She's only 2 right now so it will be a few years. I have never made a homemade pizza. We always order one and have it delivered to the house. I really like barbequed chicken pizza or shrimp pizza. Pepperoni is also great. As much as I love pizza or pasta, I have to watch it because of the carbs. Hope you had a great time last night.

Usually we just buy it b/c it's easier than making it all from scratch and for us, it costs about the same. When I do break down and make homemade everyone loves it... I usually have ham and pineapple on mine and Hubby has everything he can fit on his LOL **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

when i make homemade pizza i put everything on it except pineapple and anchovies. and that includes at least 2 kinds of cheese. It is much cheaper for us just to buy it already made and if it is the kind out of the frozen section i just doctor it up to suit me.

I hope that you have a wonderful visit.. we do not have pizza often in my house but yes, I have made for the grands (with their help) but I use pitta bread as I cannot buy a pizza crust where I live. They are available but in the larger towns and cities so that would be a big treat for them. Kids are just kids all over the world and mine would like the same toppings as your granddaughter I like the veggie pizzas but there has to be real mushrooms - not the tinned ones which they tend to put as a topping in our country

Hiya Jill, Have to say that I prefer the ones that I can heat up in the Micro Wave at the moment. One of these Days I will have a go at making my own that´s a promise to myself of course. They make them much better than I do at the moment and I don´t mind admitting that one. Yep but they cannot make Beef Stew as good as the one I make. (I mean the Pizza Makers). Was the Pizza nice then? Well that´s good hope you enjoyed it Jill. Have fun.xxx

My sister has a small pizza business. Basically it's a home made pizza since my sister does the dough and just buy the toppings on the grocery. If ever we have time we get a dough and add toppings in it, toppings of our preference of course. It's fun because we can choose whatever toppings we want. I love pizza :D

I use my bread machine to make my crust, I like the taste of homemade crust better than a mix or a Boboli crust. We like a thinner crust so I spread it out thin and then into the oven to crisp it up for just a few minutes. Then a thin layer of sauce, which I do make from scratch sometimes or I might use a bottled sauce if I'm in a hurry. Then we just pile on all our favorite toppings. I like sausage so that goes on, my daughter likes pepperoni so that goes on too. Then its just all our basics, cheese, onion, bell pepper, and black olives. We tend to use the same toppings all the time because that's what we like. I always make two so we get all we wanr for supper and there is plenty for daughter to take to work the next day and for me to have cold pizza for breakfast (yummy) and I can have it for lunch if I like. It never goes to waste. Cold pizza is one of those things I can all day. It does take a little more time to do it homemade but we like it so much that it's absolutely worth the extra effort. We just have to be careful while putting on the toppings, it's easy to go overboaed and end up with a soft crust and toppings that don't get bubbly all the way to the center.

do you really think it's difficult? it's one of the easiest things to do, even totally from scratch. you can either make bread dough, which is very easy, or buy a base, which is even easier. then you smooth on a tomato paste, that you can either get from a jar or tube or make yourself by cooking down tomatoes. and onto that add any toppings or kinds of cheese that you want on it, and put it in the oven. it's extremely easy to do, and very good fun.

I like making pizza, but tend to make the dough base, as I don't really like the texture of the ready bought ones. it's a bit too much like the deep pan pizzas. it's great fun to make pizza though, however you do it. choosing all the different toppings you like and so on. I don't like them too cheesy, but with lots of fresh tomato, peppers, prosciutto, herbs, rocket and the like. great fun. to make, and a great way to get lots of healthy things into your diet.

I know that some people will offer that only delivery pizza is the best pizza. then there are others who are happy with the frozen variety too. Homemade pizza fron a box would be more time consuming. It can also be just as enjoyable as any other pizza.

I prefer to make my own pizza. It too is something I do with my granddaughter. We even make the crust ourselves. We use whole wheat flour and my granddaughter has a great time rolling out the crust. Our toppings usually include spinach, pineapples, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, brocoli, and whatever leftovers may be in the refrigerator. For sauce we use leftover homemade spaghetti sauce.

yes, i make homemade pizza quit often. As far as the crust, i try to buy high gluten flour wich makes the dough thick and chewy like the kind you would get from a takeout. If you can't find high gluten flour, there is also a gluten additive you can add to your recipe or one of the boxed crust's. If you don't like it chewy, it really doesn't matter. As far as toppings go, i like just about everything on my pizza except pineapple!!. I don't know about you but i've noticed that most children love pizza with pineapple and cheese with NO pepperoni. Compared to most pizza places, making your own pizza can save you some money (depending on how many toppings you use)and it's a lot of fun. Happy baking!!!
