Too much snow?

Snowbank - An example of the amount of snow I've had in Minnesota so far.

Well, this photo was taken today (1-26-11) in my back yard. It shows the depth of the snow in most areas here in Minnesota. We are already above the normal/average snowfall for winter and we still have Feb, March, and April to deal with snowfall. Our normal yearly snowfall amount is around 50 inches and I think we've had about 52 inches so far in my area. We had 19 days so far this month with snow falling at least as well. We also had the 3rd snowiest December as well. Now all we are missing is setting low temperature records. When I first moved here in 1975 I recall 2 weeks ov it being 20 below zero and colder at night and not getting above zero that same time as well. I've been waiting for a wnter like this for a long time. Do you like the snow and cold? Is your area setting or nearing any winter records? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Last year we got some snow that stuck all day. That was a record. :D Snow for me is something you go and visit and play in, and then you go home. We're getting lots of rain this year though, and lots of snow up in the Sierra. That's a good thing...

Same here! Every year, we get about an inch of snow that sticks around for about three days and slowly melts. My daughter always insists on going outside to play in the snow, though it's always too cold. We're lucky to get any snow, considering we live in the Deep South which is not really known for it's snowy days.

WE moved to Minn. in the spring in the 70s not sure which year maybe 77 . My hubby was building power lines thru there and he saw big blocks of ice come out of the ground I saw a little of that in the feild that was behind where we lived . Never saw ice come out of the ground like that before some plaes I had seen where it looked like ice cycles coming out of the ground but this was blocks of ice. its a wonder they ever got the holes dug to set the poles. Used to like winter I got over that would like to see it fall but not drive in it any more! But woud if I had too

That's a LOT of snow!! I don't think we're setting any records here in Ohio but we've had quite a bit of snow, about 9 inches so far. I know, that's not much compared to your state but it's a lot to us. We'll probably end up with more than the average snowfall this year. I do get tired of the snow but I enjoy winter. I enjoy all 4 seasons and it's nice to know that things won't stay the same from month to month or day to day. I'm ready for Spring, though!

I think we've broken some records here in NYC recently. Sometimes I like the snow and cold, and sometimes I don't. I like it mostly when I don't have to go out into it and can stay home wrapped up under my blanket. It doesn't really stop me from going anywhere though because I'm used to it. The only thing that really bothers me is when there are delays in public transportation because of it. I don't really mind the snow much, but I absolutely hate ice and slush because it makes it more difficult to walk. P.S. The puppy is adorable :)

Here in MN we are used to snow etc so the public transportation is seldom held up due to the snow. Unless we have a huge storm like we had a month ago. Almost everything was shut down as it hit hard and fast was it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Brrr, it is so cold, we are experiencing 30 below zero for weeks on end. This however is the lesser of snow we have gotten. Although it is snowing today, so you just do not know if we get several feet. Last January this exact same time we had about 19 inches, so I suppose to put up with the cold is better then tolerating all the icy snow. For this I am thankful, but who knows I might come back and say; Grandpa I lied we are buried in snow today.

30 below windchills isn't all that bad I feel. We have a lot more than 19 inches left still on the ground. HAHAHA! Stay warm is all I can say. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I hate the snow and cold, and we've had way more than usual in my little corner of the northeast United States. It's normal to have no snow at all, or just a few inches that melts fairly fast. This year, we've had over a foot, with more coming later today and tonight. And the temperatures are well below normal. I stock up the freezer and cupboards for winter because an old injury (slipping on the ice) means that I don't go out when there's any chance of taking another fall.

I do not mind the snow and cold. But one thing I hate is really cold temps with no snow on the ground. Doesn't seem right without snow. I fell off my roof one wnter. Luckily there was a couple feet on the ground to fall into. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

We didn't get as much snow as last year, which is good since they changed the schools calamity days from 5 to 3.. My son already made up one day on Martin Luther King's Day and still has two to make up..But this wasn't because of a lot of snow, but that it doesn't take much snow to close my son's school down. So if we got a lot, he probably would have even more days to make up..

oh thank goodness no snow in California in the winter time b ut we did have some torrential damaging cloud bursting type rains and have a lot more water than we have had in years.Hopefully this coming fall it will not be so dry and the morons who love to set wild fires will be frustrated as green stuff will not burn easily and give up on it. Most of the wild fires we have had the last few years here have been man made set on purpose, not wild in the sense of lightening strikes at all. Winter was never my favorite,I always loved spring when mayflowers and skunk cabbage and wild crocuses sprang up out of the melting snow and my mom's daffodil and narcissis bulbs sent up little green spears.

I guess there can be too much snow. Just depends on how well you like it. I live in the south eastern area and we don't get much snow & I like that just fine.

Well, right now it's very cold where I'm staying and there is quite a lot of snow;I know also the temperature at night will drop to -20 degrees Celsius, but I know areas in my country where it's even colder most of the winter,so I had enough of the cold, but the winter is still very strong,so there's nothing else I can do but to endure the cold and think about the moment when spring is back.

We haven't had much snow this year. Right now it's dry, brown and boring out there. Our high was 51 today. I hate it. We usually get a lot more snow and it's usually a lot colder than that. We've had a couple of cold spells, but nothing major, just barely below zero for a couple of nights. I envy you your snow!

it's actually warmer here than before I noticed that it never gets to minus 40 with the windshield anymore but I might have missed the news because I don't go out much unless for grocery

I think it was the December of 1983 that we had almost 3 weeks of it never getting above freezing, and, remember, this is TEXAS we are talking about - it was SO cold! **need an emoticon of shivering here**

I don't care for the snow or cold if it means being stuck at home or stuck in snow by one means or another. I dunno where we are as far as snow I think we are actually a lil low. And we got the first day last week I believe of below zero temps in 2 yrs. All I want is some good packing snow for a nice snowball fight with the kids... I so look forward to those.

You definitely have a lot of snow in your backyard. I do enjoy watching the snow fall. I find that there's just something so beautiful about it. However, I don't like having to deal with the cold. I just hate the cold. Cold weather and me simply do not go well together.

I love the snow! Don't get me wrong, I love the summer too. I wish we would get a little more here in Ohio. I don't think we have come close to breaking any records this year. Not sure how much I would like 52 inches though. :)
