I get home...

and think... I should do something constructive... So, when I got out of the car, I grabbed a bag of cat food and toted it in with the rest of my stuff. Then I dumped the cat food in the bin and used the bag to delump all the cat boxes - mind you, I changed them yesterday, but it could only help the smell, and normally I can't be bothered, I want to be here instead! I washed my hands and filled my bottles for work tomorrow. Then I grabbed the loaves of bread out of the freezer, got out a plate and the mustard and cheese and started making sandwiches for lunches. 6 sandwiches later I have to refill the mustard and make the next 7 sandwiches, made sure the mustard was full, put everything away - I freeze the sandwiches so I can make them ahead of time - I remember doing that YEARS ago when I first started with the state, so I started doing it again. I rinse the plate and I would love to load the dishwasher, but the roomie didn't unload it yet... So, here I am instead. I think I got a lot done in less than an hour. I've been here about 30 minutes and actually done less than I had done before! Thinking about a nap... What do you do when you get home from work? You ever frozen sandwiches for lunches?

I have not made frozen sandwiches, at least not consistently. When I have needed lunches I almost always have had leftovers to box up. I wish I had energy. I seem to have caught a cold and I turn into a real wimp. I have not had a cold in a year, other than one that lasted about three days, last month. I napped all morning. Still running a fever. I will probably warm up some food and take another nap. I need to scrape my cat boxes a little more often as well.

Awww, hope you feel better GG! Better to get a cold now than in a few weeks when it's summer out. I hate summer colds, yuk!, not that any cold is good to get. I just hope you feel better quick and can go about your merry way!

Thanks Bobbie. I usually get better fast, but I turn into such a lazy wimp.

You know what GG, I think it comes with age. When I get sick now I just curl up on the couch and wait for it to get over with. I hate it. When I was younger, I just kept on going like the energizer bunny..not so much now. I do know how you feel and I hope it passes on by real quick for you!

Hi Sugar, I must say you are a busy bee! I've never froze sandwiches for lunch, when I worked. I don't work anymore, I'm basically semi-retired. I use to freeze some sandwiches though for dinner to make it easier when I did work, or just for the kids to grab if I was out doing yard work. They were really tasty...and the kids just loved popping them in the oven. These were the type of sandwiches that needed to be heated up for dinner, like meatball subs, beef with mozzarella cheese, and Italian sausage with peppers, etc. They were all in sub sandwich buns, yummy. You sure did get alot done in such a short time!

Well, since I work 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. I do not get time to really do much after I get home from work unless it is come downstairs where my Computer is and post here on myLot and such to wind down for fear of keeping my husband awake, etc as well. Most of the cleaning, etc. has to happen during the day before I go to work. Making sandwiches and freezing them? Never heard of doing this. I am sure the only ones that would work might be Balogna and Cheese, or Turkey, Ham etc. I am not sure I would do this one or not, even though doing a lot of them in advance like this would save a lot of time later on for sure.

You can't freeze mayo or its kind, but I'm a mustard girl! I can understand not being able to do things because you have family sleeping, I am not much good when I wake up, so I am glad I haven't worked different shifts since I was young.

I can honestly say that I have never eaten a frozen sandwich. I have made them ahead of time and then put in the 'fridge but not in the freezer. As for work, I work from home so juggle all the manly chores of the house with getting my work done as well! Thanks, Zelo

I try to take a block of time and use that for work... that is not to say I am 9-5 M-F but it could be from 2am-8am... whenever. That is the joy of it. Getting interrupted for dinner, having to run to do chores, or something that pops up from home that is not related to my work when I am working is perturbing. Although I do love my wife for making dinner for me! Zelo

My roomie works from home and mostly she is there working during her working hours, but if she needs to run to the bathroom or break up a cat fight, well, she's there to do it.

I keep my bread frozen but not sandwiches themselves. If I'm going to be away for a day, I take the frozen bread slices out, make the sandwich, put it in a bag then into a lunch box. This way, I get a deliciously fresh sandwich for my travels. These days, it seems that the more organised I try to be leading up to an event, whether it be a day away or a week in advance, the less organised I am. Mental preparedness really takes it out of me these days and a days driving trip sees me stressing about a week in ahead of time. Naturally, this doesn't help my attempts to be as well rested as possible before I attempt the journey.

depends on which job and how tired i am.i usually have to do all the household chores i normally do if i weren't working that day anyway..because if i don't,no one else will. but if i have a lot on that day AND tired,oh yea, they're getting leftovers. or something else really quick to make. i had to change one of the boxes immediately upon coming home the other day tho. my littlest left me a boxbomb that stunk the entire floor out. it's always the littlest,i swear to god.ripe lil' girl

Mind you, I only work 25 hrs a week, so its not like I'm also trying to work full time and have a family - my "kids" all have 4 legs and fur. Our old cat is the stink bomb! and she is one of the smaller ones!

I don't work outside the home anymore. But when I did before I was married, I would come home and have a shower and have a snack before I relaxed for half an hour. When I was at school, I preferred to have a nap as soon as I returned. After I was married and had kids....when I started working, I would have no time for myself. The first thing I would do as soon as I got home from work would be to feed my little son and put him down for a nap. I would then grab a quick bite and start preparing/cooking dinner. By then my older son would be home from school and I would have a whole lot of other chores. By 9 pm...I would be ready to drop! I've never had frozen sandwiches ever! :)

I have never frozen sandwiches for lunch before. I would be afraid that my bread would get too hard. I work at home so my job is never done. I work around the home, inside and out and also online. I like to get my naps in sometimes too.

this isn't soft white bread, this is pumpernickel bread I might have better with a sandwich every morning, but if it starts frozen, its thawed by noon, and don't have to worry about it spoiling!

I have never frozen sandwiches for lunch, wouldn't that make them soggy as they thawed out? When I had a job I would make my lunch the night before, though. It really helped make the morning more relaxing and less rushed. I hate to be rushed in the morning or anytime!

not badly, but my sandwiches are just bread, mustard and cheese, pretty boring but I don't mind - I'm not one who has to eat a different thing every day like some people...

It is a good feeling when you utilise as much time as you have to catch up on chores that need doing. I don’t like wasting time when I have a lot to do. As far as frozen sandwiches I have never done that and I have to wander if they taste as fresh when they are defrosted. I have been making our sandwiches every morning.

They taste fine to me, but you can't use the cheap white bread, it has to be a rye or pumpernickel bread to thaw well

There are a few things you have to know. Mayo (or its related stuff) do not freeze, so you can't do things like tuna salad or if you like mayo on your sandwiches, mustard freezes fine. Obviously you can't freeze lettuce or tomatoes and its better to use a firm sort of bread rather than soft white.

Never done that! I think the bread changes a little bit when they are frozen, the rest...well depends on what you put on the sandwiches. There was a friend that she frozen her bread and would eat even 2 months past the expiration date, when properly bakec it wasn't bad but it felt like it was frozen, something changes.

expiration dates mean nothing if the bread is frozen and if the bread is a good quality, not the soft white stuff, it is fine - and I put cheese on mine, I prefer swiss...

We live with my in-laws who are already retired. My mother-in-law cooks our foods whenever we are at the office. Our daughter comes home only during vacation since she studies College in a far away city. So when i get home at about 6:30 , sometimes i would be so hungry. Because dinner is already ready, i would ask them that we eat dinner. After that, I wash the dishes and tidy the kitchen. Then, time for my favorite TV soaps. Then, during commercials would do Mylotting. When husband arrives (they have a later dismissal than our office has) i will assist him in eating and clean up the plates. Then , we would watch TV & share stories at our bedroom until we feel sleepy. Sometimes if there are left over fried foods, hubby and i would bring them for our lunches at our respective offices. If not, just buy from a nearby canteen at the office. So there, that's our routine.

I am semi-retired, and never married, so I come home from work about 2:15. My roomie who works from home does most of the cooking, I'm no great shakes as a cook, but I do the dishes - when she unloads the dishwasher - but the dishes are all rinsed so I just need to load it at the moment. I work home health, so there is no place I could easily get food from that is on my diet.

When i get home i usually straighten up my bedroom, since its still a mess from the morning, start dinner, and try and do a load of laundry. And i have not frozen sandwiches b4. never really knew you could do that, but thanks for the idea!

ive always made it a habit to freeze anything left over on the second day. because if we dont eat it the day after its cooked i know it will be a while before we want it again. sometimes i still end up throwing some out which i hate because if i thaw it we dont always finish it then either. but at least most of its not wasted. when i worked, thats what i took with me. whatever looked like id eat from the freezer. by lunch time it was thawed enough to either eat or warm. i sure wish i had such energy as you these days. this shoulder and arms really getting me down. but since old age, it seems its always something.

The roomie can eat leftovers but because of my allergies, I can't, well I can when we freeze them, but she generally eats them first!

I'm normally either getting out of work at 9am or at 9pm so I don't get much done then. If I worked the night before, I go to sleep. If I'm getting out at night, I usually just get online and relax. I've never frozen sandwiches before.. I usually buy bread and lunch meat when it's on sale though so I get doubles of everything. Then I usually freeze the doubles.

well, can't freeze mayo, but I'm a mustard gal anyway I am also NOT a morning person so grabbing a frozen sandwich and an apple and I'm ready to roll out the door. I only work part time now, since I'm "semi-retired" and figure I need to what I can since the too roommates are still working full time (and I'm not the oldest either!)
