The children at my job are absolutely enthralled by bead bracelets recently. They raid the bead bucket for the colors they need and make millions of these little bracelet.s I must say, I'm obsessed with them too! They're just so neat and oclorful and unique! I've already made two. And I've gotten many compliments on them. I wish my camera was working to show you guys! One is a colorful one with different square letter beads and the other one is a checkerboard pattern with yellow and pink. My bracelets are thicker and well, less childish than the ones in the picture, but you get the idea. They can get very sophisticated and are definitely time consuming to make! So, this begs the question, has your daughter come home with a bunch of bead bracelets that she's made at school? Have you made them before? Do you like them? Did you used to make them when you were younger?

Hi stephanieAnnC We have a jewelery making class here snd some of the residents have made the prettiest necklaces and bracelets. I was given one by the teacher that is a string of milk white beads and a string of crsytal beads and it's the prettiest one I have ever had. I also have a bracelet of carved pink roses and crystal and ruby red sparkling stones that I just love to wear. its the way the different beads are put together 'as some are like agatea and some are carved roses and the other sparkoling crystal and red stones.very attractive. When I was a child I love wearing necklaces and bracelets and I never got over the passion but they must be attractive now. lol

I love beads of all types, just like you. I bought a bead jewelry book awhile ago that I was meaning to use. And maybe a starter bead kit as well. But those plastic children's beads work pretty well. Nnt as childish as they seem! But those bracelets you have sound beautiful!

Actually, I think I still have a few beads left over from when my girls were younger. Yes, I have made them as well as my girls and I have used them when I was a girl scout leader for the troop to make their own bracelets..That appeal is they are fun and easy to make, plus each bracelet is as individual as each girl who makes them..

The pony beads can be strung on leather cording and made to be adjustable. There are also some macrame type ways to put them together. In Bible School one year we made Power Bands that told Bible principles for each color of bead.

I am not laughing, I love beads too, I just don't wear them much anymore, I mean I go no where but on the computer for school it seems like. The last time I got out was in March for my anniversary and that wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for my daughter..Yes, I have seen boys make and wear them, but I don't think they get as obsessed like girls do..

Yes. I must admit, I'm a child inside. I love beads as much as the child sitting next to me at my work. Hey, now, no laughing! And it's not even girls though! The boys like em too!

Hi Steph Our little one comes from England late July so once again the beads will be all over the place here in our apartment. Both her Dad and I must sit for hours on in, creating the fancy bracelets, ankle bracelets and necklaces. Then there is a contest in which she judges ours. lol, of course I do my best to win but she somehow always gets the prize.

I am sure we will always be proud of what our children would make. I am always happy when my 5 year old son would show me his stamp on his hand after school and there will be a medal for excellence, a star for very good, a smiley face for good and a sad face for a fair. I think he still didn't understand these rating system when he went home one day very happy when he had a sad face on this hand. But I am always proud of what he makes in school. We haven't made any beads when I was young, however some of my friends made bracelets out of threads and they weave them and really look very cool. I only made beads when I made my personalized invitation in my wedding a few years back. I made it into bracelets and used it as a ribbon for my invitation. It was really very pretty.

Children just like stickers. Oh yes. I'd love to see that invitation if you have a picture of one. Sounds beautiful! Oh yes. Friendship bracelets. Those things are time consuming too! But they are beautifully crafted.

Unfortunately Steph, I have problems uploading photos. My photos just don't seem to appear at Mylot whenever I attempt to do so. I can't attach photos to my discussions and responses. My only consolation is that I can post pictures in my avatar.

My 8 years old daughter has her own box of beads and made a lot this summer. She give it to her cousins who are having a vacation in my mom's house. She give some too to our neighbors and they all love them. I always buy her supplies whenever I could because it will spark her creativity and imagination.

My daughter is thirty two, so no, she has not. I bet my five year old granddaughter would enjoy making them. When I worked at a preschool the kids liked to make necklaces or bracelets. The adult disabled clients liked making them at day services as well. I have some mother of pearl beads and also have some brown wooden ones that I need to make into bracelets or something. Great for improving fine motor skills.

Oh yes. Very good for fine motor skills. I didn't think about that. And awfully fun too!

I'm guessing these are on elastic, and I don't like to wear elastic - something about bothering my early onset of carpel tunnel... However, I make jewelry (see my photos to see some) and I never wear them, because I'm such a klutz! I was wearing one and nearly ripped my arm off before it broke! I'm more apt to wear one of my necklaces, tho I have one bracelet I really OUGHT to wear, its more likely to tear my arm off before it breaks! but it is beautiful! it MIGHT be in the photos, but at least the kind, a fringe kind is

The ones we make at my work are made with a type of lanyard. It's not as stretchy as elastic. It's more stretchy plastic, I guess you can say. If you don't want to wear the bracelets, I sure will! I would love to make some jewelry like you do!

I think the past couple of generations of children have been enthralled with beads. I have a couple of necklaces and a bracelet that my boys made me when they were very young and they had such a good time doing it, they were so proud! I wear those pieces and can feel the love of those little fingers stringing the beads and working so hard to make something pretty. Beads are fun, they allow a child to be creative and make something beautiful. We didn't have those much when I was young in the 50's and 60's but I think it's a nice trend.

Ah yes. I think they're a nice trend too. As long as the children don't try to eat them! Quite the choking hazard, eh? Besides that, children do have lots of fun with them. They'll sit there for hours at my job making these little bracelets. It's interesting to watch them do it as well.

When my granddaughter was young she did some necklaces like you describe. Did them for everyone in the family. One of our popular jewelry stores here has a charm bracelets where you pick out the charms. They are very pretty. My daughter is very into beadwork and makes some interesting things.

Making beaded jewelry looks fun, and simple too, regardless of your age. I wish I had more time to make beaded jewelry. I just don't like to be interrupted when I start a creative activity. I get on this creative streak and don't want to have to stop once I start. There should be no limits to your imagination, so the possibilities are endless and you can be as creative as your imagination allows you to be. One of these days I will bead a bracelet or necklace, or two, or three. Maybe after I complete my 2004 trip to Ireland scrapbook that I started...

Good luck with the scrapbook! I want to see pictures when it's finally done! Oh yes. I love being creative. I get on those steaks too, so I need like long periods of time where I'm free to work on the craft or else I get a bit nasty to interruptions!

My kids are boys, so they don't have any interests in making bead bracelets. But two weeks ago, a family friend came by, and gave one each. They were all dark brown beads so the boys seemed to like it. I saw them wear it the whole day! Of course the day after, the bracelets were not on their wrists anymore! I saw one near the sink, and the other on the floor of the van.

I wonder if the one in the van fell off. Boys are bit rough or...just didn't like em anymore. Who knows.

I love any thing that involves craft. My little girl absolutely loves beads and makes necklaces and bracelets. My boys tend to join in with her too. Maybe you could get the children you work with to make lots of bracelets for any events coming up and use them for a stall. Maybe to use the money for something else they would get enjoyement from, or even some more beads. I find crafts very relaxing and children have no limit to imagination therefore the things they make are sometimes very surprising.

I'll see what I can do. I'm glad your daughter loves beads. They are quite fun! And yes, I agree. They are very relaxing to me as well. And the kids became so creative! It's nice to see!

I used to make these when I was younger as well. I also have let my daughter make them lots of times and necklaces to. She has a huge container of beads. I would never of worn that many bracelets as the girl in the photo you attached to me that looks ridiculous. I think all kids love creating things like this.

27 May 11
Yeah. That girl has a bit too many. And the bracelets the children make over at my job are more sophisticated than those. Checkerboard nd stuff! It's crazy! I love beads. I need to go get some!
