Flowerchilde, there are misconceptions on both sides about what a Conservative and what a Liberal is. You are very wrong to make these statements. I'm a conservative that loves everyone, wants the poor to have a better life, knows that big business creates jobs, loves the constitution and thinks we should use it to guide the way the country is run and to maintain personal freedom. However, liberals think I am as you describe in your post. Conservatives, at least the ones who are most visible to the public, think that liberals want everyone on welfare or other gov't assistance, want the gov't to control every business and want a communist society. Now, anyone with a brain knows that neither of those perceptions is true. Sure, there are some in each persuasion who think like that but the vast majority only want to be free to live as they please. We ALL want the poor to escape poverty--the hardline ultra conservatives think they should be left alone to struggle on their own while the ultra liberals think the government should give them handouts. The middle ground, which most people believe, is that the poor should be given the opportunity to the tools they needs to rise, like education and morale supports as well as limited financial help. This is just one example of how each side stereotypes the other. And that is why we can't get anything done, we are pitted against each other while our party "leaders" whip up resentment with stereotypes such as the ones in your post. So we work against each other as our country drowns in misery, joblessness and indebtedness. Remember--together we stand, divided we fall. And we WILL fall, soon, unless we respect each other and come together with a common purpose. I hope you understand what I'm trying to communicate.

Conservative does NOT equal Republican. A conservative is referring to someone's economic view, which, put simply, is that government should allow the free market to function with as little government intervention as possible. I am conservative but I am definitely not Republican, because I support gay rights, I am pro choice, and I do support civil rights. I don't like to affiliate with one political party, I think that's too close minded, but if I had to choose I would be a Libertarian.

That is what I used to consider myself too. I'm not sure that I consider myself affiliated with any party any more. I really despise the 'party system'. I support gay rights, am pro choice, and I believe in not protecting people from themselves, meaning, let individuals make their own choices, even if they are stupid. I bristle at any other person stepping on my rights, and my rights extend to what I choose to do in my life that doesn't affect other people. I never tell any other person what to believe, what to eat, who to be friends with, who to marry (or not). I EXPECT other people to give me the same respect and courtesy I afford them, and if they don't, I have more than a few (insert bad word here) things to say to them about it.

I think you put what I believe perfectly. I also dislike the party system, it seems to pit people against each other and discourages free thinking, unique politicians. Basically, if you aren't loyal to the party you won't get any support for your legislation.

That is likely why our government is as corrupt as it continues to be. Nobody good can get in because they end up lost in the soup of crap that already is.

That's a real stereotypical, judgmental, bigoted, and narrow-minded way of putting things. Don't label people like cans. Groups of people don't fall under under specific parameters and all have the same ingredients. Plus they don't appreciate it.

That's the worst definition I've heard in awhile. In my opinion, it's someone who favors the traditional views and values, while not wanting to give load of free hand outs. I shouldn't talk on the matter, I get rude messages on here for my political views.

"I get rude messages on here for my political views."\ Wear it like a badge of honor. There's an old military saying that goes, "If you're getting the flack, then you must be right over the target"

My guess is the media, and I don't have any kind things to say about them either. I don't really like the word 'conservative' which brings to mind people who judge others. However, my personal feelings about limiting handouts to others fall under the blanket of conservatism, because I don't believe in anybody who doesn't do anything to get anything for free. I have seen that a lot of conservative motions appear to be against women, appear to be against gay people, and appear to want to infringe on the rights of the public with legislation and government control. I can't say for sure whether the whole conservative side is at fault, I am just stating what it LOOKS like. If this is NOT true, I would like to see people who claim to be part of this side defend it and show me how it is NOT how it appears. Of course, at the same time, I don't believe in handouts for free (unless the people receiving benefits do something to earn it in return) and I don't believe in any sort of amnesty for anybody, illegal, criminal, etc. No double standards, one expectation for all and one punishment for all who do not follow thru the expectations.

COnservatives are just that. And maybe alittle paranoia mixed in. The media has alot to do with it. Racists? I agree. Hates women? SOme are women. Against the poor? Some are. And why would you be against the poor? Big business? I think ever sector is against big business. Government limits itself. That is why we really need to get someone in government who is using a full deck and will actually work for the people and not for themselves.
