No Checks August 3rd?

No Checks August 3rd? - President Obama announced on the news that if the debt ceiling mess could not be sorted out he could not guarantee that people who are on Social Security, Veteran's benefits, and many others will receive their benefit checks on August 3rd.

Considering the behaviour of that bunch calling themselves our political class (both Republican and Democrat), the likelihood of the Debt problem being solved is as likely as a Dodo Bird riding on top of a unicorn into the senate floor.

For those who depend on those checks this will be not a little sacrifice. it will be an unmitigated disaster. If they are lucky, the landlord will simply dump the poor sod on the street. Heart attacks will be plentiful, many fatal as this is a physically frail as well as financially frail population. Medication will go unpurchased, as will food, much less nutritious food.

Heart attacks will be plentiful, many fatal as this is a physically frail as well as financially frail population. Medication will go unpurchased, as will food, much less nutritious food. Many of the veterans whom this will hit will have head injuries, or lost limbs so will be easy prey to whatever miladies that prey on them. That group are already scraping to get by, many already homeless. Disabled adults on SSI with mental illness fight to keep their sanity via the meds they take. take their income, you take their medications, you take their sanity. Crime doesn't climb, it flies. Emergency rooms become packed as they self medicate to escape their inner torment, then overdose with perhaps a bad batch. They become victims of crime or victimise their community members seeking escape from their inner hell. Families of these people will suffer. This mess doesn't happen in a vacuum. Children and spouses become battered or dead. Morgues will do brisk business.

We will be sunk for sure. Our income is dependent on my husband's measly Social Security check. I just cannot believe they will let this happen, as we will all sink into oblivion.

I just hope that, as despicable as it is, that Obama is just playing chicken with some of the more sociopathic elements of the House & Senate. There ARE sociopaths in government, and Obama isn't one of them, regardless of what you think of his politics. Seniors and high ranking solders with platoons under them have voting power.

This ticks me off to no end. WHy? Because basically they are saying give us what we want or we are going to take it out on the weakest. It is a bully tatic. They should be ashamed of themselves. After the billion we gave to Haiti and all the other foreign aid that has been handed out in the past couple of years...but they look after our own last. Really? They seem to care more about the rest of the world than they do about the citizens of this country. If this doesn't open peoples eyes I dont know what will. It is a low blow and a scare tatic. One I hope back fires.

The voting public have tried over and over again to keep government in check. It hasn't work. The officials have ether strolled around what the public wanted or simply bamboozled the voting mechanisms used. I don't know what Obama was playing at with the social security, solder pay card. He's not stupid though. If those checks don't go out, Washington's going to have many angry people on their hands, not all of them feeble and vulnerable. Washington should tread most carefully when yielding that nuclear football. Such can go off.

A government big enough to give you everything you need, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have...." We gave them the power over SS and now they can take it away or withhold it to get what they want. If this isn't a lesson in NOT letting the government get too big or too powerful than I don't know what is. Being dependent on the government is a dangerous situation to be in.

Why doesn't he just use the $100 billion he's promised to the United Nations?

or the billion that went to Haiti...or heck the billions that have gone OUT OF THIS COUNTRY in foreign aid. You don't see them threating to cut off their checks do you? Nope....but they seem to have no problem trying to bully and attack the weakest in this country to try and get their way. I am soooo fed up with BS.

I'm looking at homelessness if I don't get my SSD check as my landlord don't give two shakes of a three month old carrot for a sob story. I am so angry I can't describe what I feel without an instant MyLot ban.
