selling kids clothes via consignment shop

I was thinking since the gal who I was supposed to give my 4t's to seems to have no desire for the things. That I would maybe take the name brands that are hopefully in good enough shape to a consignment shop. But I don't know much about how they work or how do I know I'm being offered a fair price. I know some places buy your stuff outright for cash or instore credit, others kind of hold onto your things and then pay you for what sells and the returns the rest of the items to you. What's the best route? Tips? Advice?

You can probably compare two shops if you have the time, but in all honesty they will certainly give you 50% of what they are going to sell them for. If you are not planning on earning from them through any other means then I would say anything you get for them may be okay.

3anugglebunnies I remember selling enough of my unworn dresses to a consginment shop to pay the whole power bill and they paid me outright for them. go for it as you get nothing if you just give them to Good Will for example.

If you have boys' clothes in infant and toddler sizes, they sell like hotcakes on eBay and you might get much more money for them than in a consignment shop. I've personally found that girls' clothing does not sell as well as boys does on eBay. To sell items at my local consignment shop, it just isn't worth it. The owner pays you for your items and then sells them. The owner there basically wants me to give them to her for next to nothing and then she marks up the price so she gets a great profit.

I used to trade in my kids' clothing to a consignment shop for store credit. They also bought outright. If you had a $50 stroller (this was in the late 80's) that was very gently used, they would give you $15 for it and sell it for $30. Nice profit for them and you got rid of something you wouldn't use again. Anything you get will be more than you'd have if you gave them away, so go for it. Just shop around by phone or website to find the best price!

Personally, I would skip the consignment shop and consider posting the things to eBay, Listia (which is credits rather than money), or Storkbrokers. I say this, because I haven't had good experiences with consignment shops. Another option is to list the items (maybe in lots) on Craigslist. Unlike the other options, there wouldn't be any fees involved in that scenario, and you would probably get more money out of the clothes that way.

I found one far away from my house. I asked adrian to get me a business card for them. I have clothes I don't need and I don't care what they offered me for them. if I gave them away or anything else I would make nothing at all. So,that is why I say anything is better than nothing. I get a whole lot of clothes and that would be good money for me to make.

most consignement shops have set rules etc. but it is a good way to get rid of stuff. here in canada we have a store called once upon a child and i took my kids stuff there but didnt get much money. however, it is better than selling them at a garage sale.

Never done that before. By the time I'm ready to get rid of some clothes, we're lucky if it's good enough to donate to the Salvation Army.

When my kids were younger, I would take their clothes to Once Upon a Child. It has been a while since I sold clothes there and I can't remember the percentage, but they do give you cash out right for your clothes. Going there always worked for me because I could just get rid of the clothes right away and get cash. I do believe they also have trade as well, but I honestly can't remember.
