Anyone Else Doing Personalized Christmas Cards This Year?

For the past few years since my husband and I have been married, we've ordered a nice new set of personalized Christmas cards every year. We love the creative opportunity it gives us, and the fact that our names are a part of the card. Last year was a nice photo card with a silver background, and this year, we have a deep red background with a white angel on it, and our message and names in really nice script. Can't wait till they get here!! Anyone else out there like to have personalized cards made? The people at Vistaprint do great work, and we use them every year.

I like to make my own cards to be as unique and individual as the recipients. I usually print the words onto the cardstock, then sit down with all my card craft supplies and design each card, one at a time. I make up my own words to (usually) include the recipient's name and prefer to hand-sign each one as I feel it is more personal. I doubt I could do this if I had a very large family or many close friends but my card list is rather small so it's easy to design the few cards I do every year.

That would be great if I had the room to set up a craft table, in here. Alas, 80% of the apartment is filled with our futon. LOL I had a friend one year, who designed nice personalized cards on the computer, and got a response back from a recipient saying he felt sorry for the downturn in the economy, because it was evident the poor guy couldn't even afford to buy Christmas cards!! CAN YOU IMAGINE the nerve of some idiots? LOL Some people don't know effort if it bites them on the you-know-what!

Kids are so dang cute!! Reminds me of the story of the mother who had a child tell her that his little bro was writing on the new wallpaper. The mother wanted to get mad at him till she saw that he had written "I Love My Mommy" on there. She took a picture frame, removed the back, and glued it to the wall. :)

Yeah, he was an idiot, all right. That idiot would be deleted from my Christmas card list from that point on since he calls you "poor" simply because you put more effort into your cards than anything store bought. He sounds like my husband who thinks that the more money you spend, the better the gift. Of course, caring more about "the thought" can backfire. When my kids were little (my youngest was around 4 or 5) I told them that I'd prefer a hand-picked dandelion as a gift over anything store-bought. My youngest son took that a bit too literally and, one summer, he picked every single flower I had growing in my yard and brought them in to me. "These are for you, mommy." How could I get angry at that? Naturally, he got a big hug and I just told him that next time we should leave some flowers out in the yard because they make the neighbors happy, too. He just said, "Okay" and trotted off. Your apartment sounds like one I had a long time ago. But, since it was only me in it, it wasn't too bad. I could use my kitchen table as a craft table and no one cared that they couldn't eat on it.

In a sort of way, yes. I mean, my wife and I purchase this sort of blank Christmas cards that when you buy it, you've also donated for a charitable institution. We're the ones who write on the inside of the card. It gives it more of a personal touch :)

Thanks, but by "personalized" I meant with your names printed right on the cards, in the design process. The charitable ones, nice though they are, are mas-marketed cards, not created for any family in particular.

There are some really nice designs out there. I am amazed at how far Christmas cards have some. Some are real works of art.

Yes, I know. It's just the closest thing I could think of to a personalized card. We buy one design actually, and we write almost the same thing on all of the cards. It makes it kind of a personalized card that we've printed and made ourselves.

I have never ordered the personalized cards since I don't have the money for them. I do buy my cards very early, and usually at the dollar store. I also get free cards from various charities that I have given to in the past. Seems whether you send them money, or not, they still send out their "gift pack", every year. I LOVE sending cards out, and have continued the tradition that my mother started, only she sent out hundreds!! (I have to agree that Vistaprint is great!!)

If it wasn't for Vistaprint, I wouldn't be able to afford them either. I spent about $20 for about 40 cards, but I only send about 40, so $20 isn't bad. I know it sounds expensive, but I find I really get what I pay for. I'm definitely sending you one, so watch out for my angel cards, in December.

I'll be looking for your card! I spend one dollar on 15-20 cards, so about $5, IF THAT, since I have those free ones that I send as well. I send between 40 and 50.

I always loved sending out christmas cards! I say "lovED" as I haven't done it in years. Why? No one sends me any! Sad, but it is true! 30 years ago I'd send out about 50 to friends and family and acquaintances....got maybe 20 back. Every year I'd send to the same ones, and each year I'd receive fewer and fewer. FInally, I went one year and saved those I had gotten and the following year same thing and that next year I started slimming it down. Why send if I don't receive? Gradually, year after year, it got down to I would send about 10-15 and get 2-3. Final year I sent to those 2-3 and didn't get ANY back! So I finally stopped. I miss sending them and including a photo or two of my family. I was going t try this year, but I am so not in to the christmas spirit...I am not going to send any again this year. Yours sound beautiful!

Hi danishcanadian, that sounds wonderful. You just gave me a great idea. I haven't done that in a long time. That is send out Christmas Cards through the mail. I am a collector of addresses, so I shouldn't have a problem. I wish I were on your Christmas list. I would like to have one of your personalized Cards. Be blessed have a Happy Thanksgiving. And if I don't comment on another one of your post before Christmas you have a Merry Christmas as well.

There is still plenty of time. Go to vistaprint.com and design something. You can have them shipped super-fast, or regular longer shipping. There is still a bit of time to get them, and then to send them out, but if you want personalized cards, you'd better act fast! :)

I do personalized Christmas cards every year mostly because of the fact that I'm really into graphic arts and I actually design my own Christmas cards from the bottom up. I really like the cards that I create mostly because of the fact that I can include a picture of the children on the cards and also because of the fact that they are not like any other cards that people get.

The nice thing about vistaprint is that you can upload your whole design 100%, or you can use their templates. I am not as much of a designer as you, so I use the templates, but I cn still be creative to a point. However, there are plenty of options included, where you can create your own designs from the ground up.

I have always done photo Christmas Cards ever since I got married but this year I am not. I actually just started a discussion similar to what I'm about to say below :) Basically - I find I'm getting less and less cards in return and it's been discouraging. I spent so much time picking just the right Christmas Card and just the right photos just to hear nothing back from so many people! So this year, I had a baby, and most people in my life see her picture online all the time. So I figure it wouldn't make sense to make a card highlighting too many pics of her - everyone has seen them! So this year, I'm being cheap. I'm going through my collection of left-over Christmas cards from years ago and just throwing in a 4x6 of my baby with Santa. The 4x6s were free from Shutterfly (Black Friday deal!), and the cards I already have so all I have to buy is stamps :) I guess it's still personal because my cutie baby is still in there, but I'm not spending the time like I used to!

I used to design my own cards when I was younger but now I'm lucky if I get around to sending out "ready-mades".

We don't do personalized cards. It's rare that I send out a card nowdays period with trying to afford all the postage and just keeping the fridge full KWIM? My SIL usually orders personalized cards but she sends the same ones out every year so I have a feeling she bought them in bulk *lol*

I have never got personalized Christmas cards before but I have sure thought about it. My friends and family do it a lot, I always love to see the ones I get with images on them because it really shows me what that family or person has done that year. I may look into doing some now, unless it is to late and we can not get them together. I may go ahead and look at Vistaprint since you talked about them. Have a great day!

For me i don't know it much because we are not doing it in a sense of not celebrate it because it is a pagan form or worship.

Hello danishcanadian Christmas season is now on the air, here in our country a lot of christmas decorations are being displayed in the malls. You are true making personalized christmas cards is much better than ready made greetings cards although we are now high tech this day but we should not forget the essence of personal attachment in sending or giving gifts to anyone that is the most important part of it. Thanks for your wonderful topic. Advance x mas to you.
