Today , if you search for any information Wikipedia pops out the message that it is not available and this is done to create awareness among public. “ Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge For over a decade, we have spent millions of hours building the largest encyclopedia in human history. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open Internet. For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out Wikipedia. Did you search for any info today and get the message? How much we take this sweet Wikipedia for granted!

NoScript is an add-in for Firefox. It helps one to avoid dangerous and annoying Javascript on web pages.

I feel, one of the most important aspects that we all are missing here...with SOPA and PIPA, is this legislation..MADE in the U.S. by Republicans...WOULD affect GLOBAL internet. Not just the U.S. "Big Brother" attempting to control the world AGAIN! My understanding--the basis for this proposal came from the MOVIE industry...moneyed and powerful campaign contributors!

On a serious note kala, here is a page that might interest you http://www.digitaltrends.com/web/mozilla-asks-users-to-join-stop-sopa-pipa-campaign/ . I suppose if PIPA and SOPA was in place I would not have been able to access this page. Most of the articles I write are based on information collected from the Net and this will not be possible if they bring PIPA and SOPA become Acts.

I think everyone knows about this. Atleast I do. I write articles perga and the Internet helps me with collecting data for my articles. Without the Internet I would not for example write on subjects that are too technical.

The wikipedia is blacked out today 19 Jan 2012 to protest against the US governments decision to impose restrictions and censorship on websites. It is not wikepedia alone that is being blacked out. It is a shame to see USA resorting to these measures while preaching democracy to the world.

hi kalav56! been a long time...how are you dear friend? hope all is well. now, back to the discussion..hehe yes, i did search on an information using wikipedia and the message popped out. i guess, people now will be aware of how much wikipedia made information easy for all of us. i hope this will be resolved soon and i just have one question in mind, it maybe stupid to some but please be patient with me. how come the U.S. Congress could solely make any legislation that could affect people worldwide? is it because that wikipedia's developers (or whatever they are called) are U.S. based? just asking... take care and have a nice day! lovelots..faith210

I just did a search on wikepedia and the search came up .Are you search you dont have something blocking wikipedia .Or could it be the area you are in . I agree with you on one though that I dont want to imagine a world without wikipedia because I do all my searches on Wikipedia.I find that wikipedia has information on any subject and I am hoping that the level headed among us will fight to maintain free internet because anything else is a step toward the modern dark ages.

I also read that when using the Wikipedia. And I don´t understand why would the US Congress legislate over something that does not belong to a single country. Why can´t they stop through legislation spam sites and wrong information and will decide on a site that does no harm at all?

World's best online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, world's 10 most popular website has blackout for the day protesting against censorship of US Congress. It is important to stop online piracy but it is not justify to censor the social networks, blogs and search engines. Wikipedia may want to say the legislation that this is the end the era of free internet. Millions of people is protesting of 'Stop Online Piracy Act' and 'Protect IP Act'. We are urging congrese to vote for 'No PIPA and No SOPA'

Hi Kalav56, Yeah, I was searching something online about a country that I was curious about. And as I went through it, I read that message. It seems that wikipedia is really very important to us..since as I scan with other information, I just couldn't seemed to like the information in there. I just couldn't feel it's organize and well explain information in there. I hope I could able to log in now as I go along searching for some relevant information. Have a great day! ^^

Yes, I noticed the blackout and thought it was a good idea to raise awareness. I do use Wikipedia almost every day and I feel a little bad that I have not yet made time to make any contributions to it. Just today I saw a category that nobody has written about yet and I thought I should write an article to add, but I just did not have the time and motivation. Truly, I did go out and play golf instead.

Actually, the Wikipedia is still there and available. Just try to turn off JavaScript on your browser, you should be able to browse Wikipedia normally..

This all, adding the megaupload stuff, reminds me of that book called 1984, in which everything was constantly controlled and sought upon, It is such a scary scenario, and it is so scary to see how all those things come into being nowdays, in a way we didn't expect. We have to stand together against this enemey, otherwise we'll have to face another Dark Ages.

It is said that we really do not understand the value of one thing until is gone or not present.. This is what we are discovering today. Wikepedia has been most of our go to site for any info that we want.. Today really made me understand their value when I could not get a specific info that I needed.. Hope they are back soon.. Cheers

I am also able to use Wikipedia with my Firefox. However I don't think that wikipedia should do that. It is supposed to be objective. And by joining that cause it isn't. I also suspect that it might not be true, and the whole thing can be made up by internet users. I am certainly pro open, uncensured internet.
