'Browsing' at the library?

Do you ever 'browse' at the library? Is that the main way you find books? I tried doing that after work this afternoon, as I got out early, and I am across the street from a library. I picked out 2 random books and so far one of them isn't so good (in my opinion). Now I am disappointed that I browsed instead of researched it like I normally would. Plus, it's so overwhelming! Where to begin! What authors are good?! Which books are books worth reading?! Which are topics that you are interested in?! Needless to say I spent about 20 minutes at the library just reading the backs of books and trying to figure out if it sounded like something I wanted to read. I think next time I need to be more prepared and find books that I am actually interested in reading.... I can't just go to the library impromptu, I guess! How about you?
