President Obama "We did not have the luxury not to have Michelle work"

This is a very interesting comment by President Obama. Michelle worked as the Assistant to the Mayor of Chicago, and later at the University of Chicago Hospital. In 2006 she had salary of $273,618 from the Hospital and $51,200 she earned as a member of the board of directors of TreeHouse Foods. President Obama earned $157,082 from the United States Senate. The Obamas' total income, however, was $991,296, which included investments and royalties from his books. The majority of their income came from investments and royalties so in some respect there was no need for Michelle to work outside of the home. They were about $9,000 short of being millionaires. If it was difficult for them to make ends meet making almost a million dollars a year, think how it is for the rest of us. It should be noted that Senator Obama earmarked a million dollars for the University of Chicago Hospital and at the same time his wife received a salary increase that more than doubled her salary. Then when she resigned the position to move to Washington DC the position was eliminated. Maybe she did work to help support the family but what kind of a job was it that you can see your salary doubled in a couple of years and then when you leave the position was not important enough to fill? It is a woman’s choice if she wants to stay at home and raise the children or build a career or do both. That is a decision that is made by the woman and her partner.

Well no one knows how it is to be poor or on the bridge of it unless you lived it. Yes they may have had that much, but they have kids too. Most of it went to their kids college fund or even a trust fund just in case something happens to them. You have to take in consideration that yes he use to be on the Senate and you have to have money to keep your campaign going as well. People don't know what others do with their money. Everyone does not spend it like crazy. I am glad that things worked out for them in the end, but having kids and then trying to become President and now trying to get re-elected can be a hassle. I am sure they have fell on hard times and that is why he knows how it is to be poor. Remember that they are both highly educated, so I am sure she had a great job that someone else probably could not do. There are a lot of nice bosses out there that will go out of their way to pay you more to work for them especially when they cannot find someone else.

Obama made the choices he made to run for Senator and President. He and Michelle made the choice to become parents. I don't feel sorry for them at all. I raised five children on less than $20,000 a year. Way LESS. Michelle had to go to work because she wanted the money. Not because she HAD TO to survive. I'm happy they are doing so well, really I am. But I will not ever feel sorry for them for their choices.

Some of us are raising children on less than $50,000 a year. If you think he was "poor on the bridge" while making hundreds of thousands of dollars, you are freaking delusional. Even by his own definition he is rich. Remember, he said anyone making over $200,000 is rich. Those are the people he wants to raise taxes on. Either he's a liar, and does not feel that such an income equals being rich, or he is just horrible with money. I think most can agree that the latter is true.

I can't imagine why Barack didn't just put the kids in the stroller and take them down to his community organizing job with him. The Obama's are not poor, haven't been poor. Barack's grandparents gave him a comfortable lifestyle, he didn't live in poverty. There are real people with real struggles out there and it's an insult to them for the Obamas to try to make it appear that they had the same problems regarding child care and finances as the very poor do. The idea was to make Romney = rich, and rich = evil. To this end, even his wife would be targeted as rich = lazy. They miscalculated and the backlash, I believe, was unexpected.

It was probably a "fake" political job. I don't believe that statement for a microsecond. His and her financial records bare that out.

Let me try to figure this out. With Obama making very good money, putting him in the top 1% by himself with his salary and his book royalties, they still did not have the "luxury" of not having Michelle have to work? So President Obama is essentially saying that it's still a grind when you make that much money? So with the President's proposed higher taxes on higher earners, what he's essentially doing is making it harder for families like this? He's forcing women to go work? So it's either one of two things: Either the President is cruel and just wants as much money as possible and doesn't care if he's forcing housewives to go work because the family no longer has a choice, or he's just full of sh*t with trying to relate Michelle Obama with the average American woman who's working for much-needed bill money. Gotta love politics.

Boy, he's sure racking them up with this 'war on women' back firing on him so much. He's now forcing women to work with higher taxes and then his administration flunkeys are shooting down those who still stay home for never holding a 'real' job. His lies are catching up to him....finally.
