How Can People Be So Ignorant?

Personally maybe I should not be starting a discussion like this, and I hope I do not end up hurting anyone's feelings, especially those who I consider Friends and I apologize if I do, but personally a situation has arose in that I find a little absurd and personally makes me wonder what this world is coming too. I am sure I will share a little more about things in some other discussions I might choose to start in the next 12 hrs. or so. Right now I am STRESSING and upset. There is some people at work who think I am racist. These are people who are Black and have always been against me from day 1. For anyone who does know, I as a white person am a minority, and people are always talking Bad about me. (It does not matter... I think they are jealous, and can keep their pidly ways, but that is not the point.) Personally I am far from Prejudice and some of my close friends are Black, so how can they really say this? It all stems from an issue I was talking about regarding Obama's Health Care and I was saying I can't see how it would help and I feel Sorry for those with chronic problems like I have as it will be even harder to get Good help then. And she thought I meant because Obama is Black. I then said he is mixed as his Mom is white, and she said no he is Black and I am racist. If I am wrong pinch me, but how can you not be mixed if his Mom is blonde and blue eyed? Seriously she told my husband about it, and said she was going to say something to my Boss even and try to get me in trouble. What she failed to mention is it is also all over on Facebook and such, and I copied and pasted it in an Email with their names, etc. and going to be making some calls in the morning to my Boss etc. about this. Personally I think this is going too far... And since their are threats on their too... Wow!! But hey personally if this is such an issue I guess I was wrong, but personally I thought this was a Free country for people to share their opinions. Or am I wrong? ~~TINA~~

Thanks my friend. Personally this is just an issue I try not to ever bring up anymore even about Healthcare as personally it is really up to each individual to believe as they believe, and for those who are deceived to one day wake up and see they were wrong, and be left behind in the dust.

You're not a racist. And she was using the word incorrectly. A racist thinks one race is superior to another. A bigot dislike someone merely because of their color, their religion or their opinion. She should have used the word "bigot" but she would still be wrong. The people who blindly follow our president are too lazy to think for themselves so they accuse others of "racism" if they disagree with his policies. Even a second grader with basic math skills and some common sense could see that the health care system will go broke with the new laws and people like you will be very low on the list of priorities. THEY are the racists, maintaining that everything the man does is good because he is "black" and he can do no wrong. Remember, people accuse others and hate them for the things they hate most in themselves.

Interesting way to look at things my friend, and personally I agree that people who think his Healthcare plan is great either have no Health problems themselves, or think we can afford to fix everyone. But many times I often wish somehow someday these people will wake up and see themselves for who they really are.

actually i dont think you are wrong. ive been going through the same opposition with a lot of my own friends black and white and if you ask me Obama has been the cause of more break down of racial accomplishments. things were getting much better with racism until he got elected then, suddenly its all about race again? i mean, ive disliked most of our white president since Reagan. im still in the belief he was our best president since the Roosevelts. i thought Obama was the best when he first got in office for our country. but not any more. then again, i cant think of any good choice any more to get us out of the big mess the last ones have made. none of them seem to know what to do about all our problems. these days they just want all the perks and thats mainly their goal.

Yes, I agree there. The Best President in my lifetime was definately Reagan. But since Obama got in office the Race card is often a big thing now, where before he was in office it never really mattered. And NO things have not gotten better with him being there, so not sure why people think it has, or will.

I hate you are going through this. It is unfair. But we have to be careful what we say because lots of times narrow minded people are going to make nothing out of something. I have found myself in positions similar to this a couple of times. I hope everything works out for you in this. Pray about it.

I think that people are just looking for anything that they can find which will be able to get under the skin of another person. Just like you, I am a person who has friends that are from all different races and creeds and it has never been something that has been difficult for me. I've also never been accused of being racist (that is until our current president came into office). I've made some complaints about the way that I feel President Obama has led the country and I will have people tell me that the only reason that I don't agree with these things is because I am racist. This is simply not the case at all.

You are not racist, someone just wants to fight with you and cause you grief. The way I understand it, yes, Obama is mixed, and his race has nothing to do with the health care plan anyway. Early in his term a big deal actually was made about him being mixed, not black, but now it is more convenient to play the race card. From the Vanguard News Network Forum I find this in answer to the question about his percentages, racially: [i] White mother 50% white Fathers side had 1 great grand parent that was negro 6.25% The other 7 were 'african arab' 43.75%

Yes, it is true his color has nothing to do with the Healthcare plan he is trying to impose, and I see it killing more people than helping them unless you are 100% healthy and financially how can they expect everyone to be able to afford it, or help them to where they have it? Personally his Financial agenda to me makes no sense.

Good for you! When someone threatens to report you, report them first. As for you being racist. are they kidding? Just because you disagree with Obama's policis doesn't mean you disagree with his skin colour, and what the hell does shis skin colour have to do with his policies anyway? NOTHING!

I think to tell your boss about this that because you are against Obamacare, that you are prejudiced and some are saying bad things about you. He will take it in a financial perspective. He knows that he will have to pay more for Obamacare and for his employees so it is going to cost more for him to do business. I do think you should get your friends to stand behind you and not just friends of a different ethnic or color. The point what I am making is oeople should listen to you because of like minded people, not because so and so happens to be black so her words are more important.

Hello there, I am afraid there are some people are ignorant on this earth. So in my opinion, it is better leave them alone. Please note that some people cannot take jokes; some people didn't get your meaning correctly due to their own culture and custom and some people are just jealous of you. Apart from this, it is difficult to make friends with everyone, instead you only can keep harmony among everyone. So just ignore those people who cannot get on well with you. You know you only go to work and bring money home. You don't have to live with them. Hope this helps.

Some interesting comments here, and personally ones to live by. I do know from now on, since people tend to think I am like this, to just keep quiet and let them live in their beliefs and thoughts, and let us live in the Truth and someday hope for the Best for everyone involved.

I also hope I don't offend my friend who are of a different race, because my very best friend in school is black and we call each other up and say love you, ect..So I am not racist, but just like there are horrible white people, there are horrible black people too and it is these people that cause the "racist" problem. My husband works in a school that is primarily black and though it isn't real apparent, but the blacks get away with a lot without reprimand until one does something so far fetched, they are fired. If the "boss" had done something about it in the first place, these people would still have their job. I saw what Toppfer said and I don't know your work situation, so that is on you on whether it is a good idea or not. What I definitely would do is keep that copy and start writing down everything that is said including the dates and times. I tell my husband this, but he isn't a writer and the plus side of this is, if an opportunity comes up, (like if my husband's job is on the line due to what these people do) then he has documented what happened. I also tell him he should send it to the people who should do something about it, that way they can't say they were clueless. If nothing else, if it gets to be an ongoing thing, you can turn it into a novel that will open the truth, that being prejudice goes both ways..

Interesting thoughts here, and personally one of the main things that bugs me about Obama being in office. But personally it would make for an interesting book, just afraid it would start a lot of Bad karma as people would misunderstand me even more now than they do and I would not want to have to face their misunderstood backlash as well. But I do still have the copies and always curious to see what more is always said if anything as well.

Well, I just let it drop but am hoping somehow she will wake up and realize that she is the one who is always jumping to conclusions and saying things. Personally I will never say anything that might make her think I am Prejudice, and hope somehow since she has a lot of Health issues she sees where I am coming from in saying I am afraid of Obama's Health Care system and it could kill more people than help.

Hey, if you state the "facts" how can you be misunderstood? Though I am not saying to do it, my husband could write a book on his experience, but either because he still works there or because he isn't a good writer, he hasn't made the effort..

wow it is going too far and it is already troubling you and causing you problems. Maybe talk to your husband about it as he can help and also to your boss, he should be aware about this first hand so as that lady no matter what she says will not affect what your boss' thinks of the matter / issue. I believe that lady is the one who has problems and not you. be strong

I have never understood this one, and when my husband read all the things she posted on Facebook about me, and this situation it made me realize there are a lot of others I work with and around here, that feel just that strong. Some of them even consider themselves Christians and it makes me wonder. Personally how can people Judge and be like this, and be Happy within themselves?

Yes, I am learning to stay strong thru all of this and know that these people are so misled, and it is sad. I do have to work with them, and am now cordial with them. Just try to never start any conversations that are considered too loud to where someone might have a chance to question me again.

Unfortunately we are losing our freedoms. We can only say things that agree with the popular opinion, if we differ, then we are put down for it. Remember the general who spoke out against Obama was publically removed from duty. We are going to have to get used to living in a country without freedoms. think about it - the govt tells us we have to wear seat belts (like we are not smart enough to protect ourselves) and we are legally bound to purchase vehicle insurance - we pay taxes on everything but air (I'm sure they will figure that one out eventually) - and now the gvt wants to tell us we have to purchase medical insurance... give us another 25 to 30 years and will we live in the same oppression that Russia and other communist countries were under for so long. As for Obama's race - irrelevant. He is mixed and who cares?

Well, I agree with you there on this one. Too many times though, especially with people I work with they only see him as Black and nothing else, and that is because he is always saying he is the First Black president. Personally makes me wonder when people ever thought being mixed was a Crime? Or are they not proud to admit who they really are?

Oh my! There is such ignorance in this world. Yes, Mr. Obama is mixed. Just because someone looks of one color does not mean they are not mixed. Here is an a example : My oldest boy looks like he spanish. But he has none in him. His father is blonde hair, blue eyes and so white you could blind. However I, as his momma has stronger genes, provided him with brown eyes, brown hair and olive skin that can tan real easily like me. I have Italian and American Indian in me.

Good grief. It boggles my mind to know there is such stupidity in the world. It's not hard to know for a fact that Obama's mother is white, making him mixed raced, NOT black, NOT white! As a matter of fact, I call him mostly white since it was his white mother and white grandmother who raised him! It's idiotic to call him black when he's only half black. But, I supposed if one LOOKS black, some people insist that is the deciding factor. (If those people looked at the truly black people, the Africans who have no white blood in them, they'd realize that not many of them look 100% black, either.) I got tired of all the people who were calling Obama black when he was first elected, i.e., he's our first "Black" president! No, he's our first president with black blood in him. Prejudice is alive and well on both sides of the track, unfortunately. I know because I used to live in an almost all-black neighborhood and some of my neighbors treated me like I was the scum of the earth simply because I'm white. It's wrong, no matter where it comes from. Unfortunately, it's passed on from generation to generation and the more simple-minded don't understand how to use their own minds to decide things like this. They also don't see that it promotes hate. Personally, I've never done anything bad to anyone of any other race so no one can dislike me for anything I've done, only for the color I was born into. Yep, it sure sounds like these people are prejudiced against you and an email to your boss would not be a bad idea, just to let him know what is going on before it gets out of hand. Let him know that your motto is to live and let live, being the Christian you are, and that you need some intervention to see that this issue of your co-workers does not get out of hand. Maybe he'll call a meeting between all involved parties to "hash it out" or nip this in the bud, with him as a moderator. That would be my suggestion, anyway.

Well, I have copies of all the stuff she posted on Facebook, and yes, her and a couple of the others I work with are Prejudice and think that Black is the only color on earth that matters. But I am keeping quiet about it, and hope for one it drops. The woman making all the stink just because I mentioned I am afraid of Obama's Health care plan has severe Health issues she does not really take time to worry about, and hope one day it does not come back to bite her.

It is too bad that people have to jump to conclusions. I hate it when they just won't climb down off their high horse. I would write a letter or if you share a friend's list on Facebook I would explain. Too bad it goes as far as your boss. That is getting too silly and mondane. It is SUPPOSED to be a free country but not with people who jump to conclusions.

You should have told her that her comment was irrelevant and uncalled for. You have your own right of opinion too. Just because you don't like the system like they do, doesn't mean that you're a racist or whatever. It's your opinion and yours alone. I don't know what you've said that made her say that you're a racist. But for me, your opinion should be respected as a citizen of a democratic community. Isn't that how it's supposed to be? And another point, you weren't talking about their colors, right? So THAT alone does not make you a racist until you say something like, "You hate all black people"...in which I don't see anything like that in your details at all... And personally, I respect those "black" people. Because they are smart and very entertaining. I had a classmate who is one and she is very kind. I hope you feel better soon and Happy MyLotting!

I think it would have been better to not add some oil on the fire : I would have took some screen shots on FB to use them in case of problem with my boss, but sending them like you did can create new troubles with these coworkers. Indeed, I am not at your place, and I understand how it is difficult for you to work in an atmosphere like this. I feel sorry for what happens to you. I have no idea how to solve something like this : it is possible to fill a loophole of ignorance, but not of stupidity, because a hole of stupidity is always full to bursting.

Well, there is no way I would ever completely Trust her anymore on what she says. The stuff she posted on Facebook was beyond belief, and to leave it there for a couple of days to make sure I read it is unreal. She finally removed it, but I have copies of it, and personally I hope with all the Health problems she has she in time does not have to eat all her words for sure.
