Already.. I have almost been hit by people talking on their phones while driving, at least 5 times this year. I was merey walking and a man in a pickup truck ran right past a red light which he didnt see for talking or texting on the phone and nearly ran me over.. For the safety and good of others..please dont text or talk on cell phones that require your attention while driving..it is so very dangerous.

People do this all the time and even those with the bluetooths and such that can virtually not touch the phone at all are still causing a danger. When I drive my cellphone is not worried about. If I get a call and I think it's important then I find a place to pull over and check, otherwise I just let it go.

This is how I feel people should do. I know for me .. even i didnt use my hands . my mind still would be distracted. Being that I have almost been hit 5 times since the start of 2012 and every time I look to see someone with a cell in their hand it makes me want to say something for all people's sake..

In the US we try to force laws on the people but there are ways around them. When they see a cop they put there phone down and the cop doesn't know anything about it. They should make it much more safe to use a phone if people must whilst driving.

Yes I have to agree with you 100% I do not know how many times I have seen people just have no reguards for safty while cell driving. In fact Mythbusters did a episode where they tested a intoxicated person with a person on a cell phone and the results were pretty interesting I would suggest watching that one. Its cellphone vs drunk driving you can find it on YouTube i believe. Alot of us are guilty of talking while driving but when i answer the phone i limit my convo to just a few seconds by letting the other person know that i am driving and will call them back or dont answer at all. Alot of my business is phone related so i do have to answer most calls. But I have enough common sense to make the call quick and painless as possible.

in the province where i live in Canada, the government has made it illegal to drive 'while operating an alectric device'. i know they give several people fines each month for either talking on their cell phone or looking at their tablet.

IT would be wonderful if cell phones were made with some interior safety sensor that would shut the phone off when operating inside a car;) . How in the world did we survive before cell phones. I mean people rode around for ages without having to have the cell phone in hand.

On the subject of handheld communications in vehicles..was mobile CB radio usage ever flagged as being hazardous?-back to your discussion! I was reading an article recently here in the UK about potholes in roads and how some phones have accelerometers built in that could detect the bump as you drive over them, and relay the data to the roads repair department so they could collate the data and get to work fixing it..If they can do that, somebody should be able to come up with an app to automatically put the phone into something like an "Airline" mode, or disable text functions when it detects it's in a moving car..but then,if at some stage it might be made mandatory to use such a function when driving, passengers should still be able to use theirs,so the driver could simply leave the phone in "Passenger" mode and go right on endangering themselves and others..Or maybe, more car/phone integration could link the Driver's phone into the car's systems, taking care of the problem?

Really? 5 times in one year? It's a good thing you're still alive and kicking. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm actually quite amazed that you survived that many accidents. Getting hit by a vehicle is one of my fears. I'm even afraid of crossing roads.

Yes really and probably if I paid more attention I would see many zoom right by me as I am walking with their handy cell phone. I think it would make a good project for anyone . just for curiosity sake .. to park at a covenience store or gas station and see how many people you see driving with cell phone in hand. I know blue-tooth is in now but how can you drive if you are take up with a conversation. I find i have to focus.

Those drivers that drove with their cell phone in one hand is already distracting themselves from focusing on the street, if they also texting other than talking on the phone while on the wheel, it makes the problem becoming much deadly. You probably is not the only person that had been hit by active cell phone drivers on the road, there are literally hundred if not thousand similar accident cases happened every year on our street and road. Until these drivers begin to behave responsibly and be held accountable for their recklessness, we will continue to see accident of this nature from happening which normally can be easily avoided if the drivers can act in a much mature manner. They need to pull over by the street and stop their vehicles if they need to talk or text in their cell phones, before more are killed or injured annually. Until the law catch up with them, it is no doubt our street and road are becoming more dangerous every passing day.

have you ever driven while talking with a cell phone in hand. I have to confess i had .. it' a sermon for me as much as anyone else. I think almost being hit has awakened me to how dangerous it is when people try to "multi-task' while driving..

There are many people who talk in the phone and drive at the same time,Yes I know there could be some reasons such as he would be asking the directions to reach somewhere. But they should park the car in the side of the road and then talk as while talking in the phone the concentration shifts from driving. Once it happened to me that a car was driving just in front of me and suddenly he slowed down the speed of the car and then I honked at the car and then tried overtaking from the right then he moved out of his line and was driving between first and second line.I got so irritated and at that time, I was sure the driver is talking on phone and that time the cars came so close that there could have been a major accident. It was good I slowed down and latter I overtaken the car and he was talking on phone. They should try and talk afterwards or park in the side and then drive as for 5 minutes you could risk your life or others life.

Perhaps, directions could be mapped out before hand. and perhaps, they can pull aside like you said.. when taking the directions. I cannot imagine taking directions..writing them down or whatever. and driving at same time. I see a multi-car pileup resulting from such. I hope you didnt fight with the carless driver.. glad you are alright

I agree. Noone should be talking or texting while driving. It is against the law in my area to text and drive. You will get a fine or go to jail for it. But I see people do it all the time.

Depends on the person, I usually steer with my knees and use my hands for the gear level and instruments, stopping dogs fighting, phone, texting, eating, drinking, etc. But I understand, some may have a problem doing more than one thing at a time and they should concentrate and keep both hands on the wheel all the best urban

This is a bit of a 2 way street situation..(pun intended!) Drivers and pedestrians both are using cellphones while out and about, and it is a fact you can be distracted by what's going on in your hand instead of being aware of your surroundings..and when somebody is in "Control" of a ton or more of hurtling metal, the squishy one crossing the street blinkered by their phone conversation or texting could well end up ROFD (Rolling on the Floor-Dying).. Road Traffic and Pedestrians don't mix..We've had over a century of road fatalities to show for it,and new technology making us LESS aware where interaction can happen is a bad addition to that mix..

People who think they can multi-task like this is ... not very safe if you ask me. Some people are totally comfortable with it but I know that I get WAY to distracted for this kind of thing!

That's really irresponsible driving. There are cases of road accidents here in our place that are caused by texting/calling/using their mobile phones while driving. This is really sad how people become too careless.

I guess if people have learned to text and drive that is quite a fete. I find it hard to concentrate on more than one thing at a time. I always worry about those who divide their attention while driving, since this endangers not only themselves but also anyone in the car and around them driving.

Hi little franciscan: In my country we have strong regulations against people who go driving using their cell phones. Some people get angry when they are fined by the police for using their cell phones while driving by I think it's better this way and prevent future accidents than letting people do what they want. Yes, it's a pet peeve of mine to see others text/talk on the phone while driving because they aren't paying attention to the road. I get aggravated when I'm in the same car with them. They are more concentrated on their conversation than on the road.

I wonder how they are capable of doing so much at one time. But I get just as aggrevated with those who talk to everyone in the car while driving and turn and look at them and point to things on the left and right instead of keeping their eyes on what is before. them.

I think most states have the hands free law now, where people can only use their cellphones while using a blutooth handset. I know here in Oregon, the fine is steep if someone is caught suing their cell without blutooth while driving. It is very dangerous to drive without using blutooth, as you certainly can get distracted, and cause accidents. The worse part about driving and using the cellphone, si the fact that people will text at the same time. That is even worse, and can certainly cause accidents. I am all for using blutooth, as I use mine when I need to. Most of the time though, my cellphone won't ring, until I am shopping in a store where it isn't hurting anyone or causing accidents. I am glad that they made the hands free law, as it should deter most people from driving and talking on the cellphone without using blutooth. Take care, and happy mylotting.

I agree- driving needs total concentration and police should be more strict about this. I still see some people texting or calling even when they are driving a car or even a motorcylce.. They could get into an accident and just say sorry- they should prevent it
