Some women just shouldn't become mothers. This story just makes me angry. THis little girl probably messed and peed herself because of her mother's treatment of her. Your thoughts please. http://news.yahoo.com/police-rescue-malnourished-girl-closet-kansas-city-161117342--abc-news-topstories.html

I am with you, she probably messed herself because of the way she was treated.. This reminds me of a book called "It" where the oldest child is abused horribly, while younger siblings have a nice life..what is up with that? I don't have too much experience in abuse like this, but I also remember a childhood friend whose father beat her, but not her younger brother.. I don't get it..

The book is called "A boy called 'It'" and it is actaully a trilogy. (Refer to the previous response).

I don't get it either but it's more common than a lot of people realise. Sometimes a children are favoured in families and one can become a scapegoat. Some children are considered the "wrong" gender or are from a diffent relationship (or even an affair). It's not good and is psychologically very damaging because the abused child can start to think it is their fault if everyone else in the family is treated well and they aren't.

Every woman can be a mother but sad to say only few are deserving. I have seen bunch of child abuse cases all over the net, abused by people that are supposed to protect them..This is so sad..We people do train our pet animals to be kind and tamed yet why us human becoming like an animal..?

I think ya doubled up there. Yes. As parents we are supposed to protect our children, not be the problem. Some humans are close to wild animals aren't they? Very sad. I think even most wild animals treat their off spring better than some us do.

And many times it does repeat itself. I read a story in Reader's Digest years ago now about a young girl that was abused, the police put the mother away and the girl was sent to stay with relatives who also abused her. She was found in a shallow grave. Pathetic.

yeah sorry for that double posting.. you are right animals do treat their offspring better than human does..what a shame.. All i pray for all child abuse survivors is to be given the right help they need so to avoid the saying "history repeats itself". To help those children is not only to keep them from physical harm but also to restore their life.. Coz an abused is also a potential abuser..

I read the article and it's just disgusting. Sadly, it's not uncommon. There are so so many parents that really do not deserve to be parents. It's more than that. These kids are getting terribly scarred. These kids are going to grow up and if we are all lucky, intervention will help them become valuable citizens to society and good parents themselves if they choose to become parents. Hopefully, this little girl is young enough that with the proper attention and love, she will be able to get beyond this. You have to wonder how these things go on without someone...a sitter, grandparent, aunt or even one of the siblings speaking out.

This is such a sad story. Poor baby. I pray that this little girl is adopted and has a family that will love her and treat her right. It is a shame that a mother would actually do this to her child. She should be punished to the full extent of the law.

This is just so sad; I actually just ran across this article on Yahoo! for myself and thought that it was just horrible. Unfortunately it's a sad part of life. There are people all over the world that are like this. It makes me sad because while there are people across the world looking to try and become parents and bring children into the world and be good parents, there are people like this that just do not care of look to not be responsible for their children. The poor girl most of all; she did not do anything to deserve this. No child should ever be abused or undernourished, yet this women proves that some people are not as responsible as others.

I hate it when I read things like this, and it makes me think that people should have their children taken away from them a lot more easily if they choose to treat them like this. People should have to have meetings with social workers every year or so, and their progress should be monitored, so if there is anything that is a little it abnormal it should be flagged up by the social worked and discussed with the parents so that they can do something about it if they need to. Corners should not be cut at any point when it comes to the welfare of a child, as it really is the most important thing.

I could not get on the link but I can well imagine what happened to this poor child .We get this in our country how can people treat precious little children like this.It makes me sick so many people I know are paying thousands for IVF just so they can have a baby. Then other people just abuse their children they don't realise how lucky they are to have been blessed.

Once again this is a story nobody needs to hear! That mother truly should not of had any kids! I hope you never gets that girl or the other two children back! I hope the mom riots in jail! If not they should let her live in a closet like she did her 10 year old daughter and she how she likes it! Her kids deserve a loving and caring family! That 10 year old girl will need alot of therapy and care from a regular doctor to get over the hell she has been through!!

I read this story yesterday I think, and I was as appalled as you were. Can't believe the boyfriend said he didn't know this was going on. And locking a kid in the closet is hardly the way to curb their behavior, never mind that she wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom and that only makes the problem worse! This poor little girl is probably having problems because she's been so drastically abused to begin with. And she weighed so little. I hope for justice for her, and a new family that will love and care for her as every child deserves.

This news is really weird. Take note own daughter locked in a closet because of peeing? What kind of mother is that. She might have some mental disorder.

ggrrr.. I hate women whose maltreating babies. How can they not even think that babies are still ignorant, that patience and tender loving care could make them a great person someday? Maybe they're just simply sick.

I agree with you. Some people should not be allowed to have children! This story is so terribly sad. It reminds me of the book "A Child Called It". He had the same type of treatment, it is the most sad book I have ever read. It is a true story, he wrote his own book on his experience. His mother locked him in the basement, burned him, only fed him when she felt like it, beat the mess out of him, etc... Sounds so much like this story. It is incredibly horrible. I feel so sorry for that little girl. I hope she can still live a somewhat normal life since she is out of that Hell hole!

Yes. The book "A Child Called It" is actually a trilogy. The second book tells about his teen years and then the last one is about what kind of man he grew to become. Great books!

What makes it worse is, how could she choose to pick on just the one child? What kind of parent isolates just one of their children?

@PhillyDreamer--It is common in cases of abuse like this that one child is picked out to abuse. It is sad but normal seen. I agree with you about this mother receiving the same treatment.

I presume such kind of incidents as psychic and they are to be taken in par with the criminal cases under legal actions. I am a mother of a kid, and I do get angry when my kid pees and poos, but beyond my anger there is a soft part that hits me and says "He is your lovely kid for whom you span 10 months of energy and effort" and also, his smile hinders all my anger at times... I wish such kind of mothers to be treated or to be convinced for a personal consultation.

It is a sad fact that these things go on at times, it is a very, very unmotherly thing to do. I hope this child still has the probability of overcoming this abuse in time. I have nothing but disgust for parents who do this to their kids. They should never be parents. The child might have had health problems and that is why she peed on herself, how dumb of the mother. But then I have always said, the people who abuse or are bullies are very stupid individuals in many senses of the word.
