My daughter cried when she got her hair cut..

I asked the woman to trim her hair and give her long layers.. which is exactly the same thing she had done last time she got her hair cut, only the long layers last time weren't very layered. It actually didn't look layered at all last time and I think it was because we went to one of those cheap hair cut places. It still looked okay though. Well this time she had a decent trim, about 2 or 3 inches off.. and her layers were definitely layered. Her shortest layer is right about to her shoulders while the rest of her hair is about 3 or 4 inches longer than that. Just as the girl was finishing up with my daughter's hair, my daughter started crying because she thought it was too short. I guess she didn't want that much taken off. I'm not sure what she was expecting with a trim.. perhaps that they only take like a centimeter off? Well we had to wait for the boys to get their hair cut too, and my daughter didn't stop crying the whole time. She was just silently sobbing.. not really throwing a tantrum or anything. Everyone tried to cheer her up by saying it looked good and it would grow out.. but that didn't cheer her up. I think she was just emotional and upset. She did eventually get over it. Actually just a minute ago she said shorter hair was easier to brush and put in a pony tail, so I guess she's starting to like it. I actually think it's really cute the way it is layered. Gives her hair more body and definition. And the best part is her cut was free because we went to JC Penney. They are doing free kids' hair cuts all this month! Has your child ever cried over a hair cut they didn't like?

Yep, that has happened at least once in all families. I did that myself when I was nine and my mom cut my hair very short like a boys after me always having long hair. I bawled for two days..lol...I never grew into that cut..it was ugly and awful..lol.. I am glad your daughter is finally liking it some.. and may even want it cut like that again especially when all her friends brag on her new cut..lol...Her new do will rock!!

When I was a teen my mom kept complaining everytime I'd get a haircut that she paid $20 and it never looked like I got a cut, cuz all I ever wanted was a short trim. So, to avoid her complaints I started getting very short cuts and I hated them.

My face is not really fit for short hair and I've learned to do what I want with my hair and not what others want. If my hubs tells me I can't do something with my hair, next time he sees me... It's changed and how I want it. You have to choose your fights but letting someone control you.. Nope!

I don't have the face for short cuts either. I've cut my hair super short once or twice since being an adult, and hubby says he prefers it longer. He has never said I CAN'T do what I want, he'd just rather I didn't cut it short because he doesn't like how it looks. Honestly I don't either, but sometimes it's easier to deal with.

I can totally relate with her. I have no problem having short shirt as long as it is what I asked for. I cut my own hair because I am often not satisfied with my hair cut. I think I cut hair better than them lol. There was a time when I had an asymmetrical that grew out, so the hair in front was longer than the back. It was getting pretty long so I went to a good salon and ask for a trim. I was expecting for them to trim an inch all over so that I will retain the asymmetry but what they did was to make it one length. I looked like Dora the Explorer! They did not only trim an inch but about 2 inches. There was a other time when I had long hair and I wanted it trimmed. I again went to another expensive salon and ask for an inch trim but they totally cut more than what I wanted. I have long layers now and I trim my own hair. I worked as I stylist before and ask the hairstylist to show me an easy way to trim my layered hair and I did my trimming ever since.

I wanted to do that to save money, but I'm always afraid I'll mess it up and make it uneven. I can't even trim my daughter's bangs straight! I gave up with trying to do haircuts myself when I ended up making one of my son's bald!! But I still trimmed my daughter's bangs in between hair cuts just to save money. At least with bangs it's not a huge deal because they grow out quickly and you can easily hide unevenness. Now she's letting her bangs grow out so I don't have to worry about it anymore (exactly why I let my own bangs grow out when I was a teen!).

I'm glad she is starting to like it. Girls are pretty emotional about haircuts. I cut hair for 47 years so have had experience w/this . As for my sons i always tried to cut it like they wanted but didn't always please them, lol.

My oldest is the tough one. He doesn't like his hair. It doesn't look good when it's long, but he doesn't like it short. It's hard to find what works best for him.

There are some kids who really loved their her. Did you asked her if she wants her hair trimmed? But you could just explain that trimming your hair would make you look better.

I remember clutching my stomach as I was pregnant and running after my third son who had just got out of the chair and ran down the road into the town at full speed. Lord, was I cross wi him! I almost dragged him back and then, when the hair was cut, he actually like it. My daughter's hair was problematic as it was long and Curley but she had just one bit of her hair that was different in texture ( because she is bi-racial) It was he$l to comb and was I glad when I found a hairdresser who could relax this patch of hair. Her hair became coarser as she reached teens so eventually she did end up having all of her hair processed about twice a year. She does experiment but long hair suits her best. I am so glad that she is beginning to like it and congratulations on getting her the free haircut! Blessings

Hi Cynthi! How are you feeling? Glad to see you getting back on here again once in awhile. You always have such great stories to tell about your kids! I have a similar problem with my oldest son's hair. He doesn't like it really short because he thinks it makes his ears look big, but I don't like it being long because it looks unkept. Anywhere in between just means he needs hair cuts more frequently which I cannot afford. Ugh!

I dont have child. But i did when i was little. My grandma cut my hair. I said "can you cut shoulder-length?" She said yes. But she cut my hair neck-length. And i cried out loud. Well even i didnt understand she meant to do good to me. Considering i was young and messy.

My sister and I cried when I was five and she was seven. My mom came in and asked the lady to give us a Dorothy Hamill haircut (you know, the Olympic skater), and let's just say she gave us Dorothy Hamill's BROTHER's haircut. I mean it ws shorter than a lot of boys wear there hair. I'm glad you got something free. Too bad they don't do it for adults! But I love that they did it for kids.

That happened to me once when I was 14. I asked for a bob.. I thought it would all be about chin length. I ended up with about 2 inches on top and the back was all shaved like a boy. Even kids at school started calling me a little boy.

Yes...it seems the girl are always disenchanted after they get their cut....both my daughters were that way when they were younger...just recently my oldest granddaughter got her's cut and she was upset too...she didn't cry but she was not easy to live with for a couple of days!

My oldest is usually the difficult one. He has never liked getting his hair cut and always fights it. When he was little I litterally had to hold him down to get his hair cut.

Aww poor kid I would have felt so bad for her sitting there crying as they cut her hair. Nothing you can do to fix it at that point. I'm glad that later on she did come around to the idea of her hair being a little shorter. Sounds like it really wasnt too terribly much that they cut off I'm sure it will grow back quickly. My neice wanted to get layered hair but the jcpenney salon she went to this month to get the free haircut wouldnt do it. They would only trim the bottom. Ridiculous. The kids were all supposed to be able to pick out any style that they wanted.

I don't think any of them have cried over their hair being cut. Me on the other hand yes crying about their hair cuts that had to be because of behavior or they cut their own hair. *sigh*

Because of behavior? You mean like not taking care of it? I almost did that to her last year. Thankfully right after she got the layered cut she started taking very good care of it.

My youngest cries all the way through any hair cut, and that's only if I can get him to sit down to start with. School starts soon so I have this pleasure to look forward to!

My oldest was like that.. had to hold him down for hair cuts. Thankfully my younger ones are so much better and actually get excited when it's time to get a hair cut.

I'm lucky I have boys. I don't think they'd even care what their hair looks like. If not for me dragging them to the salon or barbers every 3 or 4 weeks, they would just let it grow long. It's been two weeks, hopefully she'd gotten used to her hair now. Or that they've grown back to the length before they were cut.
