Is black color cloth is allowed in your home from your family?

Black color dress - Do you like to wear the black color cloth
India
November 18, 2012 9:04am CST
In our house nobody wear the black color cloth and not allowed our family members to wear this color cloth. Still I not purchase single sari of black color. In our community most of the people avoid to wear the black color specially when goes the temple. Is your family allowed to wear black color cloth or do you like black color cloth.

Hello, No restriction in my family on black colour. Our gods are black, Rama, Krishna and Vishnu all are black. Do you stop worship these. Black colour is not so bad. I like it. If some one complexion is fair than black colour increase fairness. Black colour is unique party wear colour. It is matter of choice.

May I ask why your family don't wear black? We are allowed to wear any color in our family or church. I don't like wearing black in fact I don't have any black tshirts or dress. It feels too hot to wear especially in our tropical weather.

I think it's okay if you are only a part dressed in black. What most communities believe is that when you are fully dressed in black then it is inauspicious. I personally do not have anything against being dressed in black as long as you don't look odd.

Thats sad. I love black and wear black clothes all the time. I have a lot of black t-shirts and pants and even my shoes are black. No one can tell me not to wear black. You should have the right to wear whatever you want to and whatever color you want.

That is totally not fair. You should be able to wear whatever you want an in whatever color you want. Women should not be held down like this. Maybe you need to be in a country where women can do what they want and be what they want to be. You have wants and needs like every other woman. And you should have the freedom to think for yourself.

I don't think that there is anything at all wrong with wearing the color black and I have to admit that it has been one of my go to colors from the time that I was in middle school. The reason that I wear black on such a regular basis is because of the fact that I am a heavier person and the color black is something that is flattering to people that are a little bit heavier. I've never heard of not being able to wear black and I don't think that I would be happy at all if I would come to a point in my life that I was told that I couldn't wear black any more.

Ofcourse it is allowed. It's even called timeless plus chic and well dressed. During autumn and winter many people wear dark colours over here. I like black clothes since with them you always look good plus every other colour you can wear with it. My kids like to wear it too like everybody else I know, or see outside on the street. I don't think you will find many people over here who won't like it. BTW I would like to know why people avoid it and they do not wear it if they go to the temple. Most people visiting church do wear black clothes.

My family does not prohibit me to wear black. Although for the Chinese community, it has always been known that black is associated with a lot of negative perception. That is why most Chinese are not allowed to wear black during Chinese New Year. Because they believed it will bring bad luck. My family does not seems to bother with it too much. On the other hand, my girlfriend's side of the family seems to mind wearing black. Especially her grandmother who would get so mad and upset to see anyone wearing black during festive seasons. Fortunately my girlfriend warned me beforehand so I did not wear black when I'm at her house.

I think few hindu family not allowed this cloth for wearing specially in Lord's pooja. You are right not negative perception but some old age people says this color is not good for pooja but can wear other than this means in general we can wear the black color cloth but in pooja not allowed and after marriage women not allowed anytime.

Black is not my favorite color,I don't like wearing black shirt.Pants are ok,with me.I have a few of those. My Hair is black and my eyes are too,but am ok with it,so why the cloth should be any different? We don't follow any such custom in our family. In ancient days black clothes were worn by widows. So that might be the reason behind your family's tradition of "no black clothes".

Hi surekharathi, there is no restriction of what color that we couldn't wear in my family. My wardrobe has plenty of black color clothing, and sometimes i wore whole black to work. Black and white color is my favorite and it's easier to find clothing of these colors. However, during certain occasions like wedding invitations, we are not allowed to wear black due to relatives restriction, this is Chinese custom, so we do not wear black just as a respect to them. According to the Chinese custom, a person only dress fully in black when they attend burial ceremony.

Good day to you surekharathi, I wear black all the time. Thats what color the majority of my clothes are. I wear it because it matches everything and is a slimming color. I do like to pair it with a bright color though. I will put on a pink, orange, or teal color t-shirt. My other fav color to wear is grey and the theres brown. Im sure that its a cultural thing, because I am at a coffee shop and the majority of people are wearing some article of black clothing.

No one is limited here on their choice of colors. Black is well liked, and for work clothes it does not show dirt. I love seeing the beautiful, colorful saris, but we do not make rules about a color being unacceptable. On some people black is very attractive and it can be very formal too.

Black colour is associated with grief/sorrow. When a party wants to demonstrate against a minister they carry black flags. I wear black pant but shirt of some other colour. Present day younger generation girls do wear full black dress-- chridhar etc. I do not prefer black shirts because it may not suit my skin colour. Normally fair people can wear dark color dresses.
