My blood boils just thinking about this. Earlier I received an email from HotUKDeals. It has members of the public submitting deals from stores and the internet and - if there are lots of takers - the deal turns HOT and makes it more genuine. Anyway, I read about a HOT deal from ASDA. It concerned certain Selection Boxes. Now, I don't know about your country but over here people go nuts over Selection Boxes. You can only get them at this time of year and even people who don't like chocolate that much tend to buy them. Because of a certain Selection Box offer in ASDA people have been FILLING TROLLEYS with them - not the odd pack but the WHOLE BOX. Do you know what I mean? There will be - say - 20 per box and the whole sodding thing goes in the trolley but no, that's not enough..another 7 BOXES go in in order to fill the trolley thus depriving other customers of the deal. Now, I know that people will be buying lots for school-children and the like but..seriously. Apparently, in one ASDA the poor shelf stacker went into hiding over in the corner with the latest stash as she was frightened to come out due to the swooping vultures descending on the Selection Boxes already out on display. What's WRONG with these people? Why do they have to go so over-the-top? Even if they had a few kids it doesn't justify (in my view) whole trolley fulls of chocolate. Are they not feeding them anything else? No wonder there's a problem with childhood obesity in this country oh, and the cynic in me tells me they're not all donating them to charity either.

Maybe they are stocking up on chocolate and eating as much as they can before the world comes to an end on Friday LOL. Seriously though I have seen it with my own eyes, I used to work for Sainsbury's and it was like panic buy because the shop was closed for TWO days, not a WEEK, TWO days, I'd see the same people have trollies packed sky high before Christmas and then they would be back with trollies packed full again, what do they do with the food? People get greedy. Don't you find however that by the end of August/early September selection boxes start appearing on the shelves! Guaranteed after Christmas what will we see? Easter Eggs on the shelves. Crazy, absolutely crazy!

Apparently, it's against the law to stock Easter Eggs BEFORE Christmas, it has to be in the New Year lol.

Some places will put a maximum X purchases per customer notice up for particularly enticing offers..obviously,Asda didn't get the word on this deal! I'm with you on this..I'd be the suspicious type who'd be wondering were they shifting on that scale as the buyers were shopkeepers planning on selling them on at a profit..

I live near Enniskillen in N.Ireland..this bulk buying frenzy story reminds me of a few Christmases ago here when the Euro rate and a VAT differential was bringing shoppers across the border in droves..the town was gridlocked at weekends and getting a parking place was an impossibility!

Good point. I believe there may have been an error with the barcode or something so staff had to alert the customers in order to get rid of them all...and get rid they most certainly have, judging by what I've been reading about this deal!

that does seem a little extreme but i have gotten a few boxes of chocolates when they have been on sale and have put them in the freezer to enjoy later in the year.

MMmm! Must be good chocolates at a good price! Some people just can't pass up a bargain, no matter what it is. I bought TWO apple pies yesterday. I don't normally buy in bulk but they were half their regular price.

I don't have a giant freezer in which to store them, either.

One of the reasons I could think of is that they seemingly senseless shoppers are shopping for a list of people, colleagues, relatives, neighbor and so on. The other one would be some of them are have a convenient store of theirs to stock up and resell. Or, earn on the side by selling them online. Anyway, I agree with you that the store should have implemented a maximum purchase per shopper to avoid such a crazy rush which could result in unwanted injuries. The other good reason would be letting other shoppers have a chance to buy for themselves. It is obvious that the store here isn't bothered about making their shoppers happy than profits.

Apparently chocolate is some people's life! The cheap price plus the love for their habit drives people over the top with buying and hopefully not just giving it to their children. I hope that some people can get it after the mas quantities are taken. I hate when they have people to grab everything up before the others get there, that is just pure greediness.

Greed is one of the seven deadly sins and so is gluttony. Throw temptation in some people's way and watch the animal emerge. In some instances, Christmas brings out the worst in people. For example, there are more break ins around where I live at Christmas time.

I remember some time ago hearing a reported on the news after Christmas that Australians had gone into debt via their Christmas spending on credit cards to the tune of several billion dollars. I was stunned because I couldn't understand 1. why people had to spend so much on expensive gifts and 2. why so many chose to go into debt for so much whereby they would be paying it off over a couple of years. That's just mindless (trying to be polite and not say 'fricken stupid!'). The other thing that makes me think is that I don't recall hearing that information these days. I doubt it's improved so maybe it's been decided by the ninjas () in charge that that is just giving stupid people stupid ideas if they report such things. *shrug*

I heard today that the Brits have been affording Christmas via credit cards. To me, this is insane and it doesn't matter if bargains are to be found. The people have to pay the money back. Why do they bother at all? Beats me.

Hi janey oh my people can really go overboard and become pigs like and old Bing Crosby song one verse Do you want to ba pig, pigs and greedy ands stuff themselves or would your rather swing on a star, ca ry Moonbeams home in a jar?"Really pigs are greedy and so are some people when they see a bargain like that.It gets almost disgusting watching some people hoard something like chocolate like they were going to feed an army of people.

Maybe they're buying one for each family member, or for all their employees or something.

I'd like to think so but..somehow I doubt it. Maybe the odd one would do that but the vast majority are just greedy gits and that's that.

Either they are "bargain shoppers" who think that buying a bunch of stuff that they don't actually need is being "frugal," or they are reselling the boxes. My guess is that it is split between the two camps. I did have to look up what "selection boxes" were, since I don't believe I've heard that term before. I think that, if I end up on that side, I shall need a "British-to-American" dictionary to help me get adjusted.

It doesn't make sense that they overbuy the chocolete. It is incredible even some stores made a 50 % reduction in the prices of it.No wonder the chocolete was snapped up in no time.Maybe the store used it as bait to attract customers, because the shelf life of their chocolete was coming near.
