I am so excited. I found a JOB! It's part time, and PRN (as needed). Promises to ease me into full time asap. Great pay too. I'm working once again as a medication technician in a nursing home. I work evenings in the behavioral unit and so far I'm loving it! After being off work for so long, all the looking, all the worrying, all the doing without...I am so thankful to have finally found this position. Actually, it found me. An old friend who is the director of nursing at a nursing home called ME after seeing a post on FB where I mentioned I'd been out of work for so long. COOL. Anyone else unemployed, looking or just found work?

I have a position, it's just not permanent yet. Rather I work in IT, but for an insurance company. :D

I'm so happy for you!! I have not really worked since I moved east in 2007. I got some temp jobs at first but they dried up. When I researched this spot the paper was full of jobs and as soon as I settled in they began to dry up. Now there's just positions I can't physically do. One advantage of moving back west is that there are many more jobs than there are here in depressed Southwest Ohio. I have a kind of job, I write articles, and while the money isn't great I usually have something to do everyday. When the assignments dry up for a few days I feel useless. I can't imagine how helpless and useless someone out of work for months or years must feel. I'm so glad you have a job that you love and hope you go to full time very soon!

Oh my, no.....the housing market stinks right now despite the media crowing about how much it is improving. My house is 87 years old but solid, with a new HVAC system, shower, newer roof and windows, steel doors and on and one. One of the problems is that there are 40 other houses for sale in the surrounding area, all foreclosures or short sales for around $40,000. I want to keep my word to pay off my mortgage one way or the other but if things get as bad as I think they will, I will allow them to foreclose and leave. It will be the first in my family and will hurt my pride but if my income greatly reduces or dries up (which with the new taxes, etc., is a distinct possibility) I'll have no choice. I'll move either when the house sells or I'm forced to let it foreclose. It'll be a matter of months, I'm sure, with the new taxes for businesses and the successful.

Thank you dragon. And I do understand the feelings one gets while unemployed. It does make you feel useless. I was surprised at the surge of elation I felt my first day on the job! I was also a bit surprised at home much my FEET hurt too! As we age we expect to be doing less as our physical self slows down. Like the grey hair and wrinkles begin to appear we accept we're getting older. I just wasn't ready to call it done, as I expect you aren't. You have a very active and intelligent mind. I am glad you have the opportunity to use it. Is it online? Perhaps you will share the links to those opportunities?

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is cool she called you... I was looking a few years ago, but gave up. Without a car or experience, (well I have the experience, just not their kind of experience) no one will hire me. So I am focusing on trying to publish my book and getting my degree...

The book and the query is done, I just need to work on the synopsis and hoping to finish that before Monday. As for the degree, I am just over halfway done, but the problem is, I really need a car. This is because it is getting to the point where the classes I still need to take, are either classes I have to take on campus because it's too hard online,(math and science) and then my last Creative Writing class just happens to be not so popular. Not only is it only offered during the second semester, but it isn't offered at the local campus, but at the main campus, about 45 miles away.

Congratulations. I am sure that this is a huge relief to you and I am pleased that it is something that you enjoy and is worthwhile. I found work through volunteering and another volunteer had a job that she thought that I would be ideal for. Sometimes it's who, not what, you know and I for one am happy about that!

Thank yu P1kef1sh, yes it is a huge relief. I had gone to school thinking to change careers, but was unable to find anything in the area I studied for. So, it's back to what I know to do already. I'm finding that while I may disagree with giving our old folks tons of prescription meds, I do so love being with them and caring for them. It is a trade off as most of life turns out to be. Yes, it is who we know, this position came as an offer on FB as I said; the friend who offered it to me had employed me in the past so knew my abilities. We hadn't spoken in some time, and she was off sick one day and saw my post! If she'd been at work, she'd not have seen it. I like to think God answered that prayer for HELP from me. Wonder if she would feel the same as she is the one who had to be sick for it to have happened? Thanks for the congrats! I'm happy you found something through your volunteering. What sort of work do you do?

You could say I am unemployed ...and did I find a job? Not looking for one as yet...lots of loose ends to tie up, want to complete everything before taking up a job, if at all. To be honest, have cleared plenty of those things..:) Like demating shares, tax returns, bank payments...a bit of it has recently been duplicated thanks to new RBI regulations. Nevertheless, I think I should be ready for a job by this July or so...

Right Hence27, if we can't find our desired job that pays well, another good option is try to find a well paying job and learn to like it over time. Lots of people doing that end up developing real interest in their new jobs.

Yes,you are right. Many person have to do like that. But i think it's more important to gain knowledge regarding a particular subject and work hard for making a carrier in that subject.Sometimes we don't find a job related to our profession. But sometimes we also get many related somewhat to our profession, you can say a matching option related to your profession.

I guess in a way the career I chose was a good one for job security. I work in a nursing home, while Obamacare has effected the medical profession adversely there will never be a machine to replace what I do. The pay may change as providers adjust to less money from insurances though.

After having to quit my (new) job unexpectedly a few weeks ago, I didn't think I'd get another job so quickly...especially with the same company. And even though the pay and hours aren't as great as before, that's okay. At least I'm employed again. To me, that's the most important thing. Anyway, good luck with your new job. Happy mylotting!

Hi nemrac12, A medication technician starts out as a nurse's aide (a nurse aide does the personal care, helps with the tasks of daily living). I worked as a nurse's aide for over 20 years. Then after doing that job for so long I went to school for passing medications. I can do more now to assisst the lisenced nurse. I pass the meds, I can do some of her paperwork for her, I can manage the nurse's aides in their duties and I can make decisions on some of the patient's care under the nurse's supervision. I think of it as a nurse's assisstant.

I'm still out of work and it's now marked at two years ago as of January 31st. I'm going to have a hard time more than ever to get someone to give me a chance but if I don't get something soon, I'm in danger of losing another home. I can't go through this again. Hopefully, they will give the full time sooner than later so that you can start making your nest egg for investing for savings.

Oh, I know what you mean. I have NO PROBLEM dealing with dementia patients (I pass meds in a nursing home) but the families can be VERY difficult. I also don't like a bunch of 'administration' hovering over me. I WAS administration in this particular nursing home at one time, as Medical Records/Supplies supervisor - so I know the other heads of dept. pretty well. But I don't like being under a micoscope. A week after starting this job, state inspectors came to do their yearly thing, and I had to give insulin while they observed, I did fine, even after being out of practice...but I felt very nervous. lol

I'm a self starter and prefer to work independently. Last position I had was Customer Service Representative in a call center type environment in Southern California. I normally though do administration in clerical/reception/data entry. You would think with this good mix I would be able to land a job very nicely and quickly. The truth of the matter in this economy is that with the lack of companies that hiring due to cutbacks leaves literally hundreds of people applying for the same limited valid positions, which are out there. I prefer an environment with minimal supervision such as in data entry or reception, but due to the positions I choose I am forced to take jobs where I am directly involved with people. My interpersonal skills are good, mind you, but I honestly don't like interacting with the general public.

Just cant seem to keep grounded because of how things were in Oregon. I have moved to Arizona with the promise of finding work, and then on to Colorado...I will more than likely move again before March if nothing happens here. I think it will be to California. Maybe San Diego. I just hope something happens. Everyone just have a prayer and let GOD know that I need to get things going again. Thanks for noticing that I have been AWOL... It is a great thing when we can get a job because it also brings up self esteem. I have been lacking in that department, but I also have a wonderful fiancee to help me through. You all here are awesome. I will be around more now.
