Would you bring your kids?

When hubby and I went to see Wicked last night, I was amazed at how many kids I saw. Of course it never entered my mind to bring my kids, I figured a broadway show was more of an adult affair. I see nothing wrong with bringing the kids, of course. It's nice for them to get a taste of culture if you can afford it. Me, I can't afford it.. and I enjoyed the night out without them. I'm not even sure they would have enjoyed it. My daughter might.. but I think over all kids would probably just find it boring. It was a very long play, it started at 8 and didn't end until 11. That's a long time for a kid to sit still. Have you ever brought your kids to a Broadway show? Would you consider it?

Right now I wouldn't bring my kids to broadway. They are 26 months and 7 months old so they would be loud. I don't bring ,y kids to things where they can't be loud just yet. When they are a bit older and can't sit still sure thing or even and off broad way one. Me and my husband just saw Wicked this week as well on Wednesday. It was very good as well as saw Phantom on Tuesday. I took my daughter a few weeks back with my mom and nephew to Clifford. They did it as a little 45 minute show.

When my kids were little we went to kid shows.. like The Wiggles and Disney on Ice. I also saw Phantom but that was like 10 years ago.

My daughter seemed to like it. We are going to go in a few months to super why.

Like you it would depend on many things including whether it was suitable for them. When my daughter was ten we were in London on vacation and we took her to see the Ballet Sleeping Beauty and it was performed in a beautiful theatre called the Royal Albert Hall and she thoroughy enjoyed it. We also took her to see the musical 'Cats' and she adored that and it was suitable for children. The cats came up to her and danced and sang and she was awestruck. I bought her the cd and she played it at home until it was plain worn out. But neither of them lasted three hours and there was an intermission. She and her husband go to the theatre out her and support their endeavours

There was an intermission, each act was 1 and half hours total. I am sure my daughter would love the theater, but my boys would not. Again, I can't always afford it.. I was lucky to afford tickets for me and hubby to see Wicked.

I never did and wouldn't have. I think its wonderful to expose them to different types of cultural things...but you are right...it was a long time to expect them to sit quietly.

Yes. I think mine get enough culture from school plays and such. My daughter has a dance recital next weekend that they'll all be going to.

I took mine to Peter Pan and the girls enjoyed it. It depends on the show, but if I thought they'd like it, I might bring them.

I never did because the plays I saw were for adults only. Oh wait I did take my daughter the the Wizard of Oz but she was older already. My daughter has taken her 7 year old daughter to see Mary Poppins and The Lion King and she was very good. In fact when she went to see Mary Poppins she might have been 5 or 6 at the time. She was ingrossed in the play and loved it. Did not get tired or bored at all.

Something like that I might consider taking the kids if I could afford to.

If we were to have the kinds of opportunities like that in my area, I can't think of any reason that I would not want to expose my children to that kind of a cultural experience. The thing that would definitely hold me back would be the expense of being able to take the children with me. If it was something that I wouldn't feel comfortable spending the money on then it might be something that I would leave them out of. Oh, I'd also have to make sure that the presentation that I decided to take my children to would be a production that would be appropriate for children of my children's ages.

I would consider it, if they were older (9-10+). Younger children, however, would likely be bored by many of the shows that I would want to see--whether they be Broadway shows or regional productions. Plus, the content may not necessarily be appropriate for them. Of course, I have yet to face this since we don't have children. One of these days...

No I would not do it unless they will enjoy something like that. I mean the shows are fine, because there are so many of those out there that are for kids as well, but you know it all depends on what it is about and what is going on. Many kids are better well than others. Some can sit longer and many like what they see. I myself would not take mine unless it is something that I know they will enjoy.
