Share This Picture or You're Not Religious!

I'm getting tired of these posts on Facebook that say things like, "If you believe in Jesus share this picture" or "Like this if you want God to bless you." Gee, how did people get blessed for the 6,000 years or so that Facebook didn't exist? If you ask these people doing this they'd probably tell you they're dead set against "charms" or "magic" or even the old "curse of the chain letters," but isn't that exactly what they're acting like? If you don't share this picture (which is actually an artist's rendition: Jesus was Jewish, so it's a good bet that He didn't look like a Roman) then you aren't religious enough! I know that one day I'll get tired of it and put one of my pithy, sarcastic remarks under one of the pictures: "sorry, I was too busy reading my Bible to share this. I was trying to find the passage that tells us we have to share or like nonsense like this on Facebook."

You know what? You can bet that every share and like for things like that is likely to be making someone some money somewhere. I'm not entirely sure of the details - actually, they are a little long-winded but don't be put off: you'll find them explained by many people as, for example, here:
Did you know every time you Like or Share content on Facebook you might be helping a scammer make money?

@yugocean There are, of course, thousands of pages which don't exist to make money. Nobody is paid directly for 'likes', of course. What happens is that certain people make use of all the contacts they get. They may also sell pages which have a lot of followers/likes. That is just the same as selling lists of email addresses.

@owlwings I know how to get thousands of likes for a page with 0 posts. It is not impossible, but why somebody would pay for this?

I always ignore those things, I agree, they aren't biblical or even close to expressing faith - especially the ones that contain a threat or curse for not sharing. They are just a small fraction of the idiotic posts that get shared daily on Facebook.

@FourWalls That's another 'issue' I have with Christians: they all KNOW how real life works, but ask them about 'how they work religion into their lives' and they hit you with all this fairy-tale stuff (like "oh, Jeebuss'll send down the Easter-Bunny Angel and she'll leave a chocolate for Santa Claus etc." )
The relativity of 'truth.' http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=true That's the summary ... a lot of this is 'my train-of-thought,' so it would be good of...

@mythociate I saw a great one yesterday, one of Jesus with a Mac and the meme saying, "Time to check who shared something so I'll know who to bless." The saddest part of all of that is most of these people are Christians who'd tell you in a heartbeat that Christianity does NOT work that way if you met them on the street and said something like that.

I absolutely refuse to like or forward anything having to do with if you like... any religious figure. I especially hate the ones that threaten bad luck or whatever if you don't. NOT the way Jesus operates.

If you like this post type "Amen". Honestly we need to pick a day and do that, all day. I mean what you said, "sorry, I was too busy reading. . ." Or I was busy praying for all of those who have been lead astray on facebook ,

Or the "share this sick kid and someone will donate a zillion bucks to there medical care" Or the "your boyfriend will die if you do't share this in three seconds" Or the "you are heartless if you don't share this beaten up dog" Or the.... never mind, you know where this is going.

well sometimes it helps.. i mean to some people, though I am not really personally affected by this all i need to do is ignore ... but somehow this is helpful to others especially to those who really need spiritual guidance, sometimes they are calling these as divine interventions or heavenly messages to them. A friend of mine revealed to me sometimes that she was glad she read something about the bible and it hit her just like that.

Facebook is open for everything whatever you like to share and say, even if this is senseless. Now Like this post or you are not in sense I am kidding They can't force you Some friends of mine who Admins different pages, they also share spiritual pictures and ask for like / share / comment if people are serious devotees, I told him this makes no sense as Facebook likes etc does not makes somebody religious / pious / devotee etc. They requires to do something serious, not just like the picture. But nobody is stopping. They say, it is important to keep the posts with more likes.

On principle, if it says "share this" I won't. I won't like it either. Except for the one that says "Share this potato for no reason". That one is the only pass I give.

I know! I get so sick of those things. I consider it right up there with worshiping false idols by posting them and reposting them.

I feel the same way. I do not want to see those posts. Other posts will even curse you or your mom or your entire family if you will not type "Amen" or like or share it within a specific period of time.

I see them quite often and I just pass them by. Most of the people posting them I personally know and I know for a fact that they don't attend church so I guess posting the religious pics are their form of church.

I know its a bit off topic but it really reminds me of a sketch of Louis C.K where he goes on a rant about something similar and then goes "If everyone is allowed to make up their own rule, I'm gonna walk around in a shirt that says "lick my **** if you love america"" Anyway, if you don't let it bother you, it won't
