MyLot Code Puzzle

United States

This has been bothering me for some time now. I have tried to figure out why the position of myLot Code icons seems to move around. Each time I want to add one to a comment, I have to look through the whole array in order to find the icon I would like to use. I thought at first this was because I sometimes use my laptop and other times my iPad. But it even happens when sticking to just one device. Let me explain. I like to use the “doh” icon, . It sums up how I feel about many subjects (and life to some extent). When I look for it, sometimes it is sitting on the second row of icons, way off to the right. But at other times, it is just to the left of middle in the second row. Why? Do any of you know why the icons seem to travel? Is this a perk they receive for their work making our comments more visual? Or is this a helpful aid to improving our mental acuity that the myLot staff has added to the site? What do you think?

To be perfectly honest, I have never really noticed. I don't have a good answer for you to be honest. It is strange.

See, how can someone not notice? If you put your shoes in one spot and when you went to put them on, they were suddenly somewhere else, wouldn't that make you wonder?

I've only noticed things in a different position if I've minimised or enlarged my screen. I'll take more notice now to see if their actual positions change.

Great. I don't change my screen, so that can't be it.

I would never have noticed this because I never use the icons, but it does seem a little strange.

@ElizabethWallace I would probably have noticed if I used the icons.

That is what I thought. So far, I'm the only one who has noticed. I guess it's my attention to detail and routine. I look where one icon was the last time I used it, and it has moved.

I am sure it would depend on the device and that would bring into account the resolution.

Nope, can't be that. I use the same laptop and the same resolution, and it changes. If I switch to my iPad, then of course it is different from the laptop, but it also changes when I stay on the iPad. Maybe vijay is right.

I think @sishy7 is correct. Depending on the device, number of rows is changing and it looks like position of the icons is changed. Also on the same device the number of rows varies if you commenting on a comment or if you are responding to the original discussion. This is because of some more spacing given to the left for comments.. The sequence is same.. Hope You got what i was trying to explain

Okay, I think I get it. They are in one place if you are posting, another if you are commenting on a post, and a third if you are commenting on a comment. That makes sense. Don't know if it is correct, but at least it is logical. Thanks.

I think it is just a quirk in the system that makes it move around to other spots.

They don't move around on me... But I think I know what you mean... I guess it depends on the screen width of your device... Mine sometimes show them in 2 rows, and other times they are in 3 or 4 rows like when I'm using my mobile... The is between and on mine - how is it on yours?

@ElizabethWallace Yes, it looks like they move, for example, when we respond then comment using the same screen because the number of emoticons on each row changes... But I think their sequence is always the same like and so on...

This depends, because it moves. Right now it's in the same place as yours, but even using the same screen, it sometimes moves. Right now the is on the top right, but often it is on the bottom left. I'm confused.

I thought I was the only one unable to always locate the icon I wanted. The hardest one for me to find is the icon. Found it this time without any trouble, but that isn't always the case, sometimes I need to look it over three times before I spot this very tiny icon among the giants around it. It's not the only one I use, but it is the hardest for me to find. There are others I have trouble spotting too.

That is because they hide from us. Vijay thinks they move because of where we are on the site. This makes sense.

Yes, the emoji's do move around, as if some of them are trying to hide. They always know which one I am trying to find, too. That one is the hardest one to spot, every time! If a good explanation is put forth, I would like to know about it, please.

@DaddyEvil Non-linear programming? Different coders for Post, Response, Comment and PM? Or "just because..."

Although there might be 2 or 3 or 4 rows of icons, the icons are always in the same order relative to each other. The number of rows depends on the resolution of the screen and the browser window size, as far as I can tell. At least that is the way it is on the devices I use for browsing myLot.

Yes, they move, but it is not, as stated above because of changing resolution (since I didn't do that) or different screens (because I only have one laptop, and one iPad, and it changes on each and not just between the two devices, which I expected). I think vijay is right. He thinks it is which spot on the site we are working on, posting, commenting, responding, etc.

I don't use them too often @ElizabethWallace so I haven't paid attention. I do wish however that they would make them a little larger and not quite so close together.

I would like that too. If we increase the size of them on our own screens, then everything else is too big.

Is it due to resolution ? Do you change the resolution of system more often ? Or like do you try to zoom in or zoom out in browser ? Mostly I think, that might be the reason. Though I am unsure. @goaskalice

I never zoom in our zoom out, so that cannot be it. I don't change the resolution at all.
