Making a Shopping List Does No Good

It is really ineffective to write a shopping list, then drop it in your purse and ignore it. That is how I shopped last night. There are a couple of things hubby will have to get today. Princess gets crabby when she runs out of treats.

Sometimes I leave my grocery list on the dining room table. ThereĀ“s always at least an item I forget..

As soon as we come back from shopping we start the next list. There is usually something on it that we forgot the last time.

I tend not to use shopping lists for that very reason. I'll either forget I have it or forget it at home. Neither does me any good. So I rely on my memory and for the most part it does me well. I do forget things and if they aren't important they can wait until the next shopping trip. There's always a next time.

Yes, there is always a next time. I have been saved from a multitude of baking experiences by forgetting ingredients.

@GardenGerty I was just briefly in a grocery store today and forgot to look at molasses like I was going to.

I have left behind the shopping list given to me by a client. Now that is what I call a challenge. Sometimes I manage to get everything they wanted. Other times, it is hit and miss.

@GardenGerty It has only happened a couple of times. The only time I begin to panic is when it is a new client.

Poor Princess. Has to depend on humans to get her treats. A grocery list doesn't do ya a bit of good left in the purse. I have done that several times.

Yes, if she could shop on her own she would. I think it is really common to not carry the list we write.

@GardenGerty ....I'm sure she would. It is among Murphy's Laws I suspect.

Yes, especially this time of year! Hopefully someone will get me a "list pad" as a gift, and maybe I'll actually use it .

I recycle papers and cut them into quarters or smaller. Actually I tear them.

@JudyEv I have various papers all over the place . . . which means any list I write might get lost in the shuffle . Perhaps having a specific list pad might help - unless it gets lost too.

Your last phrase reminded me that I went grocery shopping and I forgot the treats for Willy the cat. I have to go out again.

Willy has you wrapped round his little paw, doesn't he? You are making a special trip just to get his treats.

@JudyEv I made the trip in a chilly day and today I am sneezing, but Willy was rubbing his little nose against my hand closing his eyes... I could I resist?

You are right, it does not do much good if we don't look at it but it does help the memory as you only forgot a couple of things. But how could you forget treats for Princess?

While the weather was hot she did not want them. It is just now getting cold so I am out of the habit of buying them.

LOL! You're very funny! I make a list and shop online, so my list is usually on my desktop where I can't lose it. And then I have to make sure that I only buy what's on the list and don't go finding something I have to have for me!

I had to really stick closely to the list when I was young. I spelled out how many dollars I could spend on meat, and how much milk I needed to buy. How many cans of soup I should get.

Why write in the list. You can write in your notes in phone. I do it frequently. Lol

I always write a list when I go shopping. I hold it in my hand at the store, and faithfully forget the key ingredients for dinner, every. single. time. I think it's because I get side-tracked when I hit the craft section, and bakery section of the store. :)
