When I was young , I hated vegetables especially spinach! Yuck! It just tasted bitter and the leaves kept sticking in between my teeth. Told mom that I hate spinach but she made me to eat the veggie. Of course I cheated all the time, passed the spinach to my younger brother's plate and boy, how he yelled ! Then finally mom thought of a way. She said that if I eat spinach, she will let me watch Popeye cartoon show. Otherwise, no Popeye. Well, it worked! I ate spinach for the sake of Popeye! So, how did your mom encouraged you to eat veggies? my photo

Hello Patsie @Hatley, My mother had a backyard garden and we ( 6 kids) each had their own veggie to grow. Mine was beets.

She just kept nagging me until I ate it or she would not give me anything else until I ate some. Now, I love vegetables, everyone of them, even the bitter ones. Tonight as part of my supper I ate a complete juicy leaf of bitter aloe vera. Thanks mom!

@peachpurple Great, spinach is very healthy. I eat spinach raw without cooking and love it.

Father has no luck of me wanting to eat vegetables. I remember before he used to tie me and spoon feed me with his vegetable cook. And I couldn't bear the thought of eating them. So Father surrender.

No encouragement needed I have always loved vegetables. About the only thing I don't like is eggplant. I don't have to encourage Tess either although the only one she doesn't like is Spinach! lol

@peachpurple Really, in fact I have to fight her for things like broccoli, carrots, green beans, well basically anything other then the spinach! lol My mom has made me eggplant different ways and I don't know why but I just don't like it.

really? no encouragement? I don't like eggplant either but last year I started to like it after I tasted a recipe in a restaurant, I looked for the recipe online and made it. I think sometimes it is the recipe that makes one to like the veggie or not

It has never been a problem for me to eat spinach. Actually I like it a lot. Long time ago I just didn't like celery. But when we had to go to farm to labor for a week because of the school project. I had to stand it since there were no more nice food there. We worked a lot in daytime and therefore we had to eat something. Or we had to stay hungry. This is why I adjust to eat celery.

It wasn't my mum but my Dad. He made me eat Brussells sprouts - I loathe the sight of them because of that. I never forced my own children to eat anything.

I liked spinach growing up . . . my mom boiled it . . . then added soy sauce and sesame seeds (Japanese style). It was the only way I ever had it - and I guess I just happened to like it. I mostly ate all my vegetables, I wasn't too picky.

I can buy young spinach at the store here. That helps me to want to eat it cause it tastes better. My Mom mostly fed me canned veggies. I had to learn to like and appreciate vegetables when I moved out on my own. Then I learned how to cook for myself and how to feed myself in a nutritious way.

I love Spinat. I love any kind of vegetable. My late mother didn't force me to eat something I didn't like.
