I was just scanning the news and it occurred to me I did not know the last name of Prince Harry, or even the Queen for that matter, so I googled it. Windsor, is used of they do not have a royal title is what I learned. Have you ever thought about that? I had not till a few moments ago. My morning is starting off good. Have a wonderful day!

I actually did know that. I believe that officially part of their last name is Windsor. I guess that Cher and Madonna aren't the only famous people that can be recognized by only their first names.

I think they actually go by Mountbatten-Windsor. I think Phillip's last name was Mountbatten, and ELizabeth's is Windsor. That is what I have heard anyway.

When i read it, it is very strange that the royal family do not have any surname. Every Chinese has a surname to highlight their family line.

I had heard the Windsor part, but never thought about last names. Guess I just assumed it was Windsor

I never thought about it before until I saw the documentary. I simply accepted that they are from the House of Windsor .

He passed away a while back, but do you remember when we had a celebrity here in the US who had no name at all? He changed his one syllable name to a symbol in protest of a recording contract that he thought was unfair.

@andriaperry Indeed. I did not know him nor am I into that kind of music, but years ago he happened to see some art I had produced and was kind enough to mention it in a radio intervew.

The next generation of untitled royals will use the Mountbatten Windsor name to honor Prince Philip. Their real name was Saxe Coburg Gotha which is the principality that Prince Albert came from but they wanted to chose a name that wasn't so German during the wars. Before that, they were the Hanovers, Stuarts, Tudors and Plantagenets.

It seems I heard that when Prince William got married. There was some mention of it, I think. Or it might have been a mention about Princess Diana. I know I heard about it a while ago, and then never gave it another thought. I'm glad your day is off to a good start. So, is mine.

@andriaperry It might get a bit confusing, especially since my name is James, which is quite common.

So it would be Harry Windsor until he gets a title? While Queen Elizabeth is what she goes by and doesn't use a last name anymore?
