Train Con

OK, not a huge con, but nevertheless charging double the outward journey to return home having lured you into travelling by dangling a cheap one way fare is a little underhanded. I was offered a fantastic single fare of £29 from London to Paris. However, the return element of journey is £59.95! So the total would be £88.95. Still not a bad price to be honest, but somehow the trickery leaves a nasty sense that I am being cheated.

That doesn't seem like a bad price (especially considering it wasn't much less than that for me to travel less than half that distance within the same country) but, yes, it is a bit unscrupulous. That's why I always check the best price. Last time I travelled on a train, I got a better deal on the price by choosing specific times but that was a bit of a pain.

@p1kef1sh I decided I'll pay the extra few pounds next time as we ended up having several hours to kill in a place where there isn't much to do!

I do that too, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

That is underhanded. Like the tickets to shows in our city - they state one price but when you get to the checkout there are a few more fees tacked on.

@p1kef1sh You can't even complain as the sites don't have a 'contact us' button.

All round, £89 return looks quite a good price, though it depends on the date and times. I suppose it's meant to be a cheap one-way ticket for the immigrants who are going to have to leave the country.

Ha, perhaps Eurotunnel cannot imagine anybody wanting to return.

There's always a catch to these deals! But hey, if you decide to stay in Paris for good, then you won't need to pay for that return fare .

Hmm...There are circumstances where that might be attractive.

It appears you booked each journey separately. Is the fare same for the return journey?

No, apparently not. Costs twice as much to come back than to go.

@p1kef1sh Normally return fares are cheaper than 2 one way tickets. Definitely not for government owned train services like that of ours but some private airlines offer cheap rates for return journey.

That's a good trick to persuade people to buy tickets for a trip they probably weren't planning to do. It always works with me! The overall price is very good though, I hope you got your tickets.
