Did you wear a uniform when you went to school?

I didn't wear a uniform when I went to school. But I wore one when I was in high school. I still have it. I kept all my old clothes. I am still wearing my uniform when I am at home. This can be weird, but I wouldn't say I like throwing away clothes that can be worn. Do you still remember your uniform? Mine is a red sweater. I have two red sweaters. Without that uniform, we weren't allowed to enter the building.

I went to public school. We had a dress code, but no set uniform. I remember, when I ended up in a wheelchair, my teachers tried to make an example out of me, by saying my shorts were too short. They had to be fingertip length, when standing, which they were.... but because I was in a chair. It was suddenly to short.

How horribly unfair and discriminatory. When I was in high school girls had to wear dresses of a certain length. Boys had collared shirts and they had to keep them tucked in. We had one young lady that as a result of a brain tumor/surgery had seizures. She was allowed to wear slacks. No one wore jeans to school. I am old.

When I was in Junior High school, our dress code for the girls was that their skirts could be no shorter than 2 inches from the middle of the knee. If anyone's hemline was in the questionable range, the girl had to get up on the teacher's desk and kneel, when at this point the teacher would take a ruler to measure if the hem was within the 2-inch rule. If not, the girl would either have to go home and change, or have a wide red strip of cloth pinned around the bottom of her hem for the rest of the day.

I went to a Roman Catholic school that I ADORED going to for high school and wore either a pale blue uniform blouse or white blouse and then a skirt we had to buy from the uniform company. One was dark blue pleated in the front and the other was gray pinstripe pleated in the front. the two blouses and skirts could be mixed and matched. Like our gray skirt with a white blouse or with a blue blouse etc I loved my uniform as I remember one of the nuns saying to my class look at your uniform and realize how much somebody loves you to spend a fortune for your schooling. I wanted to wear my uniform after I graduated but my family vetoed it! Talk about no spirit! I think they took it to The GoodWill to donate so I couldn't wear it anymore

I can understand them giving your uniforms away. Uniforms are expensive and giving it away can help another student have a nice uniform when the parents cannot afford new ones.

@capirani That is very true. I had my same uniform skirts all four years as they were too expensive to buy new ones. For the blouses, I had new ones once in a while as we were able to buy any blouse in any store as long as it was a button-down with a collar and either pale blue or white

We didn't have uniforms at school, I like that we could wear whatever we wanted. I am not a fan of uniforms at school but where we live now it's the only option so my kid will have to wear it.

@dya80dya Yes I know, there is no other choice. I wonder if it was for religious reasons initially?

I am not a fan either. But they were mandatory.

Yes we did. First we had navy blue, solid, all one color and a white blouse. Then later in the years of elementary, they changed it to all plaid uniforms again with a white blouse. I went to the Roman Catholic school with the Franciscan nuns.

No uniform for school. Only the Catholic schools made the students wear uniforms. We had dress codes, which when I was in high school, my class fought tor loosening the dress code so the girls could wear slacks. But back then we could only wear slacks during the cold months. Now it seems there are no real dress codes anymore. We did have uniforms for marching band. Winter and summer uniforms. Our winter uniforms looked military, but our summer uniforms were red shorts, white shirts, white tennis shoes and white socks.

I never did. In fact, Guitar Center may be the first place where I HAD to wear a certain article of clothing.

I remember having a uniform all through school. At first and middle school, it was black or grey trousers/skirt, white or red top, and a red jumper with the school logo. The uniform wasn't strictly enforced as long as our clothing was primarily school colours. At secondary (high) school, they were more strict about the uniform but it was quite basic. Black trousers, white shirt, black school jumper with logo, and a red and green striped tie. I was so glad they got rid of the tie and made a more comfortable uniform when my boys went to that school The uniform changed to blue tops (polo shirt and a sweater) but they changed it again while my eldest was there back to black trousers and white shirt but they added a blazer (I think a sweater was still expected as well, and I'm sure my youngest had to wear a blue tie).

I went to public schools - we did not have uniforms. However we did have to wear specific athletic wear for physical education (PE). It was of the school colors with the school logos.
