What do think about people talking on cell phone while driving

Canada

Could not believe my ears on the news the subject of cell phones came up, which is a hot issue in Canada anyway, but they're saying perhaps it's a good thing to keep your brain active so you're more alert while driving. I don't think I agree, but I'd like to see what you think.

I think it's okay if they are one speaker mode. I think it's fine. Back when we were doing surveys in Germany, I called an executive driving to work and he still said it's okay to talk to him while driving. He said it's not really dangerous and he would want to get his mind off traffic. Im not sure though if it was a nice idea. I insist on his safety and just called him back.

I think it is an interesting concept and our alertness often is dependent on the type of talking- if I am discussing the weather - not a real driving distraction. If I am to discuss a financial decision - should not be driving.

I agree with you.I think what you're talking about does make a difference. One day when I went to town I saw this woman and she was on her cell phone. I was stopped at a red light and here she came, she was driving a pretty fancy SUV and I thought half of it was going to be mounted on my old Buick as she made the corner. She was using her cell phone and was real mad at someone. Head bouncing and mouth wide open. That's the worse I've seen.

in my own opinion, it is not okey to talk on your cellphone while you are driving, your focus should be on the one that you are doing. if not, you might get into car accident. you should stop your car, before you use your cellphone. better be cautious..after all it may cause your life..

I don't drive a car and I don't have a cellphone. My present lifestyle does not require either, though I contemplated getting a cell phone just for emergency use. But these days usually there is someone in the vicinity who has one. I suppose there are rare moments when I am alone, I just hope no sales representative gives me some kind of expensive package

Car Accidents - Pay attention to the road instead of just your cell phone, or you may get in an accident.
It would be so much better if people would concentrate a bit more on their driving and a little less on their phone calls. I also think that it would be a good idea if everyone had the headsets or speaker phones. I think that there would be a lot less accidents that way.

I have a cell phone, but I believe that it shouldn't be used while driving. I am so sick of people on the phone, or trying to dial, and they forget who is behind them, and next to them. I can't tell you how many times, I have had someone in front of me, creeping because they are so focused on dialing. I have also had people almost come in my lane for the same reason. People are distracted on the phone. I think it should be against the law, or if not, then if a accident is caused, and it shows someone was using their phone, then they should be held accountable. This is a sore subject with me, cause I lost a co-worker because of someone using their phone, and not paying attention. The pulled out in front of them, because they were too distracted dialing.

These are very good examples and I've seen them too. There's been a couple times I saw people having an arguement. On both occasions it was women and you could tell by the body language and the fact that their mouths wide open. Not safe at all.

It should be a law against using cellphones while driving. It is the major reason for accidents. The people not paying attention, too busy talking. NO cellphones while driving pull to the side of the road or have a earpiece so your hands will be FREE.

i think it is a bad habit and people who restrict themselves from getting engage in a call while driving. even if they do not admit it, people gets the tendency to be a little bit distracted while talking and they cannot devote their 100% attention in driving..drivers should be aware that aside from putting their life on a risk, they might also end up harming innocent pedestrians...

Yes good point some people would not be able to devote 100% attention to their driving, and as result innocent people could pay a deadly price.

Grrr! One of my biggest pet peeves. Next to mylot glitches. LOL. I do not own a cell phone nor do I want to. I hate seeing them drive while using them even with the ear attachment. What's even worse is when they are in a public enclosed area like a restaraunt or store etc talking away. I don't want to hear your conversations people. Hahahaha! Get this, as I was going to pick my wife up from work one evening I actually saw a man driving with his laptop sitting on the steering wheel as he was typing with one hand and driving. IDIOTS! I'm done complaining. Hang up and drive! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM HGRANDPA BOB !!

I can say here in the Washington DC are, if you are caught on your cellphone without a earpiece you will get a ticket. Therefore, I talk on the phone just make sure my earpiece is in.

Maybe the laws will change here in Canada. So far where I live there is no laws re: cell phone use.

I think it is not good to use the cellphone while you are driving. That is one of the causes of accidents in the road. When you are driving your attention is divided. So incase of focusing on cars you pay your attention to your call and you might collide to other car. So if you will answer a call you better stop your car and answer the call. It is better to avoid accidents. Prevention is better than to have accidents. I hope there should be a law that will stop someone from answering phone calls while he or she is driving with the car.

I have seen people who I think have a enough of a problem driving let along talking on the cell phone at the same time. I live outside of Chicago, Illinois and in the city you can't talk on the cell phone while driving. I think that is a good thing.

Like I said maybe the law will change here. Really if it's that important to take a call pull over. What the heck did people do back in the 50's we didn't have a cell phone and we didn't die.

I think that you lose your ability to concentrate when talking on cell phone. I often ride a bike and there were lot of times when somebody talking on a cellphone almost crushed into me only because he had so important conversation that he didn`t saw what's on the road.

Sorry c45hflow the response doesn't fit with your comment, and yes you should be able to ride your bike without worry of someone on a cell phone.

Anything that is likely to cause a major distraction to a motorist is obviously a serious potential danger, and the use of a mobile phone is rather high on that list. here in the UK they are considering making it illegal to use a mobile phone even if using a hands free set. The argument is that it still constitutes a distraction to the driver. I consider this to be absurd, because it could be argued that a passenger is a distraction since the passenger will take to the driver.

what i think is that people who uses cellphone while driving should be careful. we can't blame them if they use it especially if it's an emergency, as long as they are alert on the roads and they are aware of the consequences, then it's okay to use it.

Hi Grandmaof 2 I know this is an old post but I get so upset, because they are not more alert, I just hope they get buried with the darn things, I understand that he// has battries that die every 5 minutes or 45 seconds after the call has started. Robin

I hate seeing people talking on a cell while they are driving. I very rarely do this I guess I am just not talented enough to talk and drive. I find it is very distracting especially when I am dialing someone I usually pull over, I am not confident enough.

I think that if the cell phone is for personal or professional use either put it on speaker or get off the road. I have come sooooooo close to accidents I don't know how many times because someone is dialing a number and not paying attention, or they are talking and not paying attention. It is soooooo stupid, and agrivating. An accident can easily be avoided if you just put the call on speaker or wait until your off the road. I have a cell phone and if I'm driving I get my hubby to answer and tell them I will call them back. I really hope they do pass the law here in canada Grandmaof2 that you can NOT be talking on a cell phone while driving.
