Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. I have come across 5 discussions discussions in the last half hour where the topic is how most us are for not spelling correctly, using bad grammar etc. we were called morons, ignorant and so on and actually it struck me as comical at first because the first discussion I saw had the topic of the discussion spelled incorrectly. Then another discussion along the same lines from another user, also highly insulting, with incorrect spelling in the her comments. upon pulling up another of this persons discussions there were more misspelled words. To make it even worse in my eyes is that they were newbies and all they could do was insult the rest of us. I did warn one that she should be careful when posting discussions as they could come back and bite her. Have you come across any discussions that are downright insulting?

I haven't been on a lot lately, as it is getting boring. Too many repeated posts, bad English, and no matter how hard I try to answer correctly, my rate went down, and a person insulted me. I haven't found what you have mentioned, but I did come across some people that were rude to posters. This was fun in the beginning, but all these rules are anoying already. I wish we could ban the stars, and rules, and just have fun and enjoy our friends like before. I don't respond to rude and nasty people. Blessings dear, M&M

Margie I think I know who you mean about a Person insulting you but just ignore that Person as I put a Comment in to that one which would have made her Head spin. I just ignore them and I will not let them get to me anymore.

Yes I have and I got angry and started to write a response , then stopped and realised that's why it was written like this , If it gets you angry , you write an answer and that person has succeeded , they have loads of replies , job done , I think a lot of people forget that there are a lot of MY Lotters who don't speak English and \I for one think they do brilliant with their spelling , I need a spellcheck and I do speak English ( well Scottish ) , xx

I agree that those who don't speak English are benefitting from Mylot. There are a number of us Scots here, and should try and get MyLot to change to Scottish Language instead of English!!! What I don't like though is when members write in 'TXT' type abbreviations, I think that is just lazy.

I must say I have never come across anyone correcting a poster's grammar or spelling. And I would never do so because I know there are many people here whose first language is not English. And, by the way people, it states very clearly in MyLot guidelines NOT to criticize people for their spelling, grammar or broken English. We are all of one world. Let's treat each other that way. English is my first language and I am a writer. I should be the last person to make mistakes but sometimes I read my post over and realize AFTER it posted that I made an error. As a perfectionist it bothers me but I would never expect anyone to criticize me for it. We are not editors here. We are having discussions. Keep the peace.

That's a fantastic way to present your view. I totally agree with you. My first language is Malayalam a Dravidian language in Southern India. So my English may not be polished as of a British or American. As a community you have to bear with that. Any way people should make earnest effort to better their language by regular posting in myLot. Insults and bad critisism should be avoided.

I can't say that I have come across these types of discussions although I have seen a couple which criticised bad spelling. Members should take into consideration that there are people registered here from all over the world and some are here just to improve their English. Criticising them will not encourage them and it is not ethical to criticise another member. I find I make lots of typo errors and I would be very offended if somebody criticised me for it. I would ignore those types of discussions as I don't like getting into heated arguments.

I've come across many discussions that were insulting. As for the English thing... Well, yeah. There is a lot of bad spelling and horrible grammar, but we shouldn't expect the world from people that have learned English as a second, third, fourth, etc., Language. You should see me typing in French - oh man. Now that is some disgusting spelling and grammar ;)

What started off as a rant from whiteheather39 about people raising the level of literacy on this site seemed to have become a "have a go at the newbies" discussion. I'm fairly new on this site and I've been an active writer on several other review writing sites where people do take things like correct grammar and punctuation seriously. I could point out the grammatical error in YOUR title but I won't bother. Give the newbies a chance. We're not all here to have a go, some of us want to actually take part in sensible discussions. Older mylot members shouldn't act all cliquey (which I'm seeing a lot of in this particular thread - comments such as "we got rid of them") as you'll come across as bullies. No one of you has the right to scare off other writers, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, that's what sites like this are about. And you older members were once newbies too so give us a break. If you want to rate me negatively for this response then that's your prerogative :)

Thank you both! Finally some-one noticed. My point exactly what difference did it make to the discussion -NONE. Why be so nit-picky If I can understand what the person is trying to say why insult them. As so many of the responses point out there could be a multitude of reason why mistakes can be made.

i have read one response i think two days ago in one of the discussions where that person commented on the wrong spelling of the one who started the topic. she was boasting that atleast, she do know how to spell. and actually, she mispelled one word there. and i just laughed at her. i did not dare to comment anyway since it might cause a flame on the discussion. but, she did make me laugh. haha! people should know that nobody's perfect especially in sites like this. let's admit it, even professionals commit that they do type words incorrectly, too and that they are not 100% sure of the grammar. so, instead of insulting, let's help each other. let's understand that this site is full of members who are from different sides of the world.

I've seen this so many times on Mylot. What's really hilarious is when they start going at each other and they correct each other's spelling. Hey, typos happen but can they spell hypocrisy right when they have'nt a clue as to its meaning?

Haha! That's what I've always wondered too. I also came across a huge number of discussions where there are bad grammar and all and I get irritated by it. But, it's okay, I guess. We can't blame them. Here is their chance to improve on their English so, let's be fair to them.

There was one just yesterday that mentioned this subject and it opened my eyes. It reminded me that I had a friend who was very intelligent but couldn't spell a lick. He was my inspiration when I was in school and I would help him with his reports. I thought back on that and realized that I wasn't reading all of the discussions if there were too many misspelled words. Ha caught myself. I went back and read most of those discussions and found the subject matter was extremely interesting. I hope that made me realize that people who have brains and ideas can't always type or spell the best. Einstein was a failure in school but what a genious. No one deserves to be treated rudely. Everyone has the right to post their discussions in the best way they can, if you are not interested in the subject move on.

Spelling mistakes are common heer and as mylot guidelines say's, we should not complain about spelling mistakes as long as we understand what the other person say's as there are people all over the world discussing here and spelling mistakes are bound to happen and even i do so many spelling mistakes and most of the times it happens when they try to type faster and one should not insult one another here as we should have respect for each others here by working together in a legit site like mylot. We all should be proud to be working here in mylot and not waste our time in insulting or abusing other members here.We should only respect each others ....

Yes, I have. Some of the same as you, some putting down heavy people, and some targeting various nationalities for being cheaters, liers, scammers, smelling bad, stupid, you name it. I enjoy helping the discussions bite them, by giving a negative, because they are so negative, and then expressing my opinion, as well. I did get a tongue lashing over that one once. LOL

I always find that newbies always think of themselves as smart, but the truth is they're not. In fact they don't even know their way around and how things exactly work here. I've seen alot of them, but it didn't come to my mind to respond at their discussions because I know someone like you would actually correct them!:) You did the right way to approach her, atleast correct her and make her realize that this site is for everyone.

This is really ironic! I have been here a lot today (my day off), and I just started a discussion along these same lines. I didn't come across yours until just now, or I would have just responded here. Sorry about that! Anyway, yes, I definitely noticed and I wasn't looking for it. I was cruising through discussions looking for something that caught my eye to respond to, and I finally realized how many "rants and raves" I was reading!
