Do you have potty mouth?

I admit it, if my kids aren't around (or anyone elses for that matter) I cuss like a drunken sailor. My mouth is terrible. Today I am overtired and just worn out and I noticed I was cussing like crazy, which tends to happen when I don't get enough rest. It's how my hubby knows I'm exhausted. I don't do it in general conversation with clients, or around strangers, but if it's someone I'm comfortable with it just spews out like crazy. Does anyone else suffer from potty mouth? How do you break this type of habit?

Yes, yes, yes, yes!!! I thought I was the only one with a BAD mouth! I won't ever swear around my son. In fact I give people trouble when they swear around him. But when I am with my friends it is terrible. I honestly don't know why I do it either. I have tried to say "poop" but it just doesn't help. I am finding that "shyt" works because in Canada it is acceptable because it technically isn't a word here... But I am having a hard time stopping the bad words from popping out.

I've developed the habit of saying "shnit", instead of the real word. I don't know where it came from but it works!

On the rare occasions that I use the word I say.....chit and two are eight and four's a dozen. Doesn't sound so bad and usually brings out a laff or two.

Ohh yes i have a potty mouth haha, i have since my first word, which started with f and ended with k, most of the time, i can't hold back, i do really well around kids, and businesses, but when it comes to regular socializing, i swear constantly, and gosh, you should hear some of the words that come out of my mouth... Here in MyLot, when you swear in a discussion and hit post rather instead of previewing it, and it'll just allow you to add an image in even if your under 500 (For responses) I've done this too many times, then realized that i've added in swears by mistake and then have to go back because it seems i have a swear normally for every couple of lines haha... I'm baddd

I do that too! Especially when I'm on a roll I type like I would be speaking and then I'm like "oh shnit, gotta edit that!" I also have the habit of saying things about peoples mothers without being antagonized at all. There was one guy I worked with in a restaurant and I was spacing out one night and he says"What are you thinking about?" and I fired back with a "that crazy thing your mom did to me with her tongue last night." He got all mad and I was like "why you angry? Your sister can do it too!" I don't know what gets into me sometimes!

Oh I definitely have a potty mouth. Like you I don't do it in general conversation with strangers, etc. Only with people I know well and am comfortable with. I don't know how you break the habit - I've never managed to do it anyway! It's just that sometimes only certain words or phrases will do ... I mean "go away" just doesn't convey the same depth of feeling does it?

Congrats on reaching the prized 500th club! I'm working towards it myself...slowly but surely. hehehehe. Now, when I first talked to my hubby on the phone, nearly ever word out of my mouth was a cuss word. I wasn't raised like that. I was raised properly. But I was talking to a friend of mine on the phone who had a mouth like a sailor and I guess I picked up on his nasty habbit. Luckily, I've cleaned up my act for the sake of the kids. My son from my previous marriage has a funny history. When we had the US done, we were told he was going to be a girl. Lovely! I was looking forward to a girl, had girlie things and a girley name. Well, right after he was born, the doctor told me, "It's a boy!" I looked over and saw the wee wee sticking up and nearly yelled, "Damn it! It was supposed to have been a girl!" Sadly, KC's first word was 'F**K!" Needless to say, that cleaned up my mouth quickly!

My non-cussing (so far) two year old :-) - Olivia
I'm the same way...I have been trying to chill out on it for years now....I don't know how to STOP!! lol I need help! ha ha... I try not to do it around the kids or anyone, but sometimes when I'm really mad, it comes out...I really need to stop. My two year old is learning to talk and surprisingly she hasn't said a curse word yet...Although I thought one day she said Sh*t, but that's not what she was saying.. Thank goodness. I'm going to try harder to stop...I once tried to say "firetruck" instead of the BAD F-word. Didn't last too long though! Good LUck!

Try fining yourself 5 cents for every swear word and see how much you can save for a new pair of shoes or something. It adds up. But you must be honest....after so many fines you will probably get tired of keeping count and then little by little get used to not swearing.

Yes, I am alot like that. When I am around friends or whatever I will cuss like crazy. I don't know why. I also don't know how I can subconciously control it when I am around people I shouldn't be cussing in fron tof. It's not like I am constantly thinking don't say it, or catching myself midsentance. It's not even a regular part of my vocabulary around certain people. But when I feel free to cuss watch out.

I say what the he** sometimes when I am mad. Thats about it. I try to not swear cause I know I am not supposed to. But when I am really mad I allow myself to say that. But nothing else, or I try not to.

My dad was in the armed forces in Australia, and I grew up with a purple haze of cusswords hanging around the house. My mother, on the other hand, was always horrified. When left to my own devices (and with friends I know aren't too sensitive about it) I use the "F-word" rather extensively. Probably more than a human being reasonably should. I do think I tend to cuss a bit more when I feel tired and overworked, and my "fuse" has gotten a little shorter.

F--- yeah! I was raised properly too, then I started working in a male dominated job and picked up cursing like a sailor too. I don't have kids so never needed to clean up my language. I hardly notice it at all. But when I am around kids like my niece and nephew I realize how bad it is. Even when I think I am being good I get these dirty looks from parents. I look back on my childhood when bum bum was a bad word and laugh...if only they could hear me now!

Constant swearing usually indicates that a person lacks the vocabulary to properly express emotion. Practicing expressing your feelings when you are calm might help for when you are angry. Swearing is also picked up from other people. Limit your association with people who swear a lot.

A boss I had at a part time job about 3 years ago had a "cuss jar" for all the waitresses. Every cuss word the boss heard cost a quarter. I used to come in in the morning and put $2 in just to get me started for the day! I always got caught, even when there were employees there whose mouths were worse than mine.

The only time I have a bad case of potty mouth is when I am PMSing. I know people who use the "f" word repeatedly, and this isn't a good habit to use when you have small children. They pick up the word so easily. ONe way of breaking any habit would be to wear a rubber band around your wrist and when you catch yourself cussing away, snap the rubber band. That is how I stopped chewing my fingernails to the quick.

I admit it to I also have a potty mouth. What I have never understood is why cetain words are considered crude. I mean look at the orgin of the word f**k it was a legal term that meant that a spouse had cheated on another spouse. What about A** or B**ch these too words mean donkey and female dog. I mean if you think about it, they are just words. What makes them crude? Do you know? I would like to know why they are cuss words, when they wasn't until the last 60 years or so.

I very rarely use swear words....if I do, it is out of EXTREME anger. When it happens, I feel horrible. I can't stand to hear other people speaking like that either...especially around children. You would be surprised how many people swear at their children. That just makes me cringe. I think that the best way to stop doing it so frequently is to realize how stupid people sound when they speak that way. They really sound uneducated and ignorant. I certainly wouldn't want to be percieved as an idiot....

I cringe with horror when I see adults swearing in the presence of children. I assume that their parents swore at them and they are carrying on the "tradition". I can't remember how many times my mother washed my mouth out with soap for saying "damn" or "hell". And there was never any swearing among any of my mother's large family. All my aunts and uncles set good examples for us children when we were around. What they did out of our sight I have no but I doubt if the woman ever used any strong language but men being men I am sure they had a few choice words when they got together.

I don't really. I didn't swear until I was 15. I never swear unless I'm really mad or if I'm quoting someone. I know a lot of people who do though. Some tips to quit are, to replace the cuss word with a similar word that isn't a swear.
