it sounds great the way that you are doing it. i have learned my lesson on this one many times over though. they also sell lots of fakes at the roadside. i wonder if you have a way of telling as to whether an item is truly it or a fake. lotions and shampoos are the most things that they can easily cheat people with.

I don't prefer shopping at malls .. I take things from shops -- I stay in Delhi - Capital of India .. and I live near to Karol Bagh .. and whatever I wish to buy -- I just go there and there are so many good shops -- and I prefer to purchase stuff from that shops .. though there are many malls too in Karol Bagh but .. I like the variety in shops .. even I have found many shops which offer items at wholesale price:)

assured quality of the goods is one difinite thing that malls will never compromise on. hence if one is looking for assured quality and better service, malls are definitely the place to go for shopping.
thanks for the comments...

I really don't like malls. And although I am a woman and we do have a reputation for loving shopping, I am not too big on shopping either. I get bored easily inside stores and can only take it a bit at a time.
As for malls, I even get a headache if I'm inside one to long. On the other hand I don't shop much from roadside vendors either. I usually prefer to go to a store, get what I want and come out fast LOL

you are absolutely right when you say that malls provide conducive environment and clean food. And that is the reason I go to the malls at times for my shopping.
But I always find that the kind of bargain and deals I can strike at roadside hawkers is nowhere to be offered in malls.
Hence I prefer roadside hawkers for my serious shopping as it gives me a true value for money.

It all depends upon the quality of the items, and the choices. Sometimes I like the road side vendors, but most time out of convenience I go to the mall.

for convenience, i'd choose the mall, too. but for prices which are obviously lower, the roadside stores are the best choice for it.

for me, it depends on the place where i am going to shop. there are places in the philippines wherein it is dangerous to shop on roadside stores. but when the place is pretty friendly, i'd choose to shop in roadside hawkers. it's cheaper there compared to the prices they offer inside the malls.

I prefer to go to the mall then I can eat a few goodies too and be under a roof and in air conditioning. The variety is to my liking also and then the people that are great to watch when you wish to sit and relax a bit and wait for someone if need be. Also there are usually restaurants with the malls and if you wish you can have your meal and not have to cook when you get home to unload your finds.

If I can avoid them, neither one. I don't like shopping all that much. I know shocking coming from a woman..lol, but I hate dealing with crowds, and sometimes rude crowds at that. So I only go to malls or roadside vendors when the absolute need arises.

I prefer shopping malls because they are air-conditioned. It makes shopping more enjoyable.
Though the price might appear to be more expensive than roadside hawkers, I feel that in a sales, the price might be comparable to that of roadside hawkers. At times, roadside hawkers might be more expensive because they do not enjoy economies of scales which is the
comparative advantage of big stores. Worst still, if the hawker hawks illegal fares.

It mostly depends on what I'm looking for.. If it's for a particular brand, I usually go to the mall to shop. But if it's simple stuff that I can also get at the ordinary vendors, I usually go there to get a real good bargain! But most of the time, I shop at malls. I'm not really keen on the quality of the things sold by our vendors here in Malaysia. I heard Hong Kong or Bangkok is a great place to shop at roadside vendors!

i prefer to go to the malls. the hawkers may seemingly offer their wares at much lower prices but, chances are, they have a way at deception. in such a way that what i thought i bought for a bargain, comes out to be cheaper if secured from the mall.

We don't have too many roadside vendors here, mostly fruit & vegetable stands, tho there are those that sell pictures and rugs, not things I'm going to buy. So, it depends on what I'm going to buy. I kind of prefer to go to speciality shops when I'm looking for specific things, a fabric store or bead store. I am a larger woman & I have to also shop at a store that carries larger clothing.
That's not to say I can't find things at Walmart and I do most of my grocery shopping at Walmart, even tho there are some things Walmart just doesn't carry.

In smalltown US, we don't have many hawkers. Therefore, when I visit some place that does have them, I love them. I do realize it can be risky to buy food from roadside vendors, however. I enjoy the atmosphere of a roadside market and the variety of offerings.

I don't mind a mall, but don't go there a lot because I know that the prices are a bit higher; I prefer the roadside folks myself; I love to get to NYC and hit the streets for the vendors there, you can get anything you want from tshirts, books, cds, food, etc right on the street especially in Harlem.

I would prefer shopping at the malls since the price is fixed and there would be no room for price hikes. Hawkers on the other hand can raise their price and then give you a big discount to make you happy and you would think that you got a good deal.
